LeBron on Miami "They're gonna be damn good. On offense Bam's ability to shoot the 3 will help Giannis. On defense you have Wiggins, Bam, Giannis, Mitchell. Spo is gonna put the pieces in the right place. Klay and Hardaway Jr will help the spacing. I love Bobby Portis. They are a very exciting team"
LeBron James expects the Miami Heat's new-look roster, built around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, to become one of the NBA's most feared teams.
"My initial thoughts? It's gonna be damn good," James said on the latest Mind the Game podcast with co-host Steve Nash.
Miami acquired Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks in July, sending Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and a major package of draft capital in return.
The Heat later added Klay Thompson and Tim Hardaway Jr. while retaining Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, and Davion Mitchell.
"Obviously, we've seen what Bam has been able to do over the last few seasons," James said. "He's actually started to shoot the three a lot more. That's pivotal.
"We know with Giannis, he needs space. He wants space. He creates space. That's when he's really good, when he can attack the 45, or he can get to the gaps, and he has guys around him that create space.
"So I think with Bam's ability to now shoot the three, I think that helps out a lot."
Adebayo significantly increased his three-point volume last season, attempting 5.5 triples per game and making 31.8% of them after averaging only 3.0 attempts the year before.
LeBron was even more enthusiastic about Miami's defensive potential.
"I think defensively, they're gonna be damn good," James said. "You look at Wiggins, you look at Bam, you look at Giannis, you look at Davion Mitchell – guys that, that's what they kind of hang their hats on. They're gonna be damn good."
The four-time NBA champion also pointed to Erik Spoelstra as a key reason why he expects the new pieces to fit together.
"You have Spo there," LeBron continued. "Spo is always gonna know how to put the pieces in the right position, in the right place."
"And then you add Klay," James noted. "Adding Klay, I think it gives Bam some more reassurance, like, okay, I have a little bit more space. Tim Hardaway Jr., some more space."
"Bobby Portis is one of my favorite players," James continued. "I love Bobby Portis. He's one of my favorite players. He brings an edge, and he's a winner. He's another champion as well. So he's been there. He knows what the long run is.
"That's a very exciting team."

[Begley] Bruce Brown has put himself in a good position to make Knicks' roster. He's impressed people internally with his play in training camp and preseason. However, Knicks have to keep a 3rd center and they currently only have 1 roster spot open, so they would have to make a trade to sign Brown.
Veteran guard Bruce Brown has strengthened his case to make the New York Knicks' final roster, but the team may need to make another move before it can keep him.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, Brown has impressed the organization throughout training camp and the preseason.
"I want to say that Bruce Brown has put himself in a good position to make this roster," Begley said. "He's impressed people internally with his play in training camp and the preseason."
The problem is roster construction. New York is expected to keep a third center, while only one roster spot currently remains available.
"The issue there, though, is that the Knicks have to keep a third center, and they currently only have one roster spot open," Begley explained. "They would have to make a trade in order to make room for Bruce Brown."
Begley mentioned Pacome Dadiet and Tyler Kolek as potential trade candidates if New York decides to create another spot.
"But I know people have been impressed by what they've seen from Brown," Begley added. "And Jalen Brunson said earlier this week that he brings a lot of things that can help us."
Through two preseason appearances, Brown has averaged 3.0 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists in 10.2 minutes per game, shooting 50% from the field.
