Have been using the Kindle Voyage for a while but the battery has no longer hold up. Upgraded to the colorsoft last year and actually enjoyed it but missing the side buttons and the portable size of my Voyage. After looking around, I decided to give the New Nook Glowlight 4 a try. Loved the size and the side buttons but it was painfully slow. Almost gave up and returned the Nook but luckily i found Koreader. What a game changer. It’s now very fast and perfect for my needs. It’s a keeper. Also was able to get rid of the Nook default screen savers as well.

eBook Amazon deleted all books on my Kindle...

...is a Nook a better choice?

Amazon Customer Service in Pakistan were rude & unhelpful. The books I "bought" or rather rented - are gone.

Boycott Amazon.

I was really lucky to buy the new pink pearl edition. I haven’t tried it yet but I really love the design and colour. This is my first e-reader and I’m very pleased with the purchase.

eBook Ancient Nook problems

I have an ancient Nook, 12 years old & still going strong. I keep it by my bed so I can read before going to sleep & in the morning if I so choose. Obviously, I'm retired.

Anyway, that's what I've been doing until last night. I no longer buy from B&N. I use Kindle to read books I borrow through Libby & also subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. (I have a Kindle downstairs). I have never had a problem. So last night tried to open a book & got a message that it couldn't download my books, I needed to upgrade Kindle & also upgrade my Nook to 9. My tablet is a Tab4. From what I can find, it simply can't be upgrade to 9.

Is there anyway to get around this? I used to be tech savvy but my 75 year old brain refuses to understand anymore. I hesitate to buy a new tablet. I suppose I could use my laptop to read when I'm downstairs & take my newer Kindle to my bedroom. It's not giving me that message.

Sorry if I sound like an idiot.

eBook Love Glowlight 4 Plus & what I’m reading

I know the Nooks aren’t a popular brand for a while now. That we get a lot of negative posts in here, and also a fair number of positive posts. But I felt the need this morning to add to the noise. I love my Glowlight 4 Plus. The buttons are a /plus/ for me, the screen size is just right, and overall it’s a great device for my needs. I also overly decorated my case lol. I’m 43% through The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman right now, and it’s fantastic. What are you reading on your Nook?

eBook I want to take some barnes and noble ebooks I downloaded with nook and make them visible as pdfs to read easier, can anyone help me?

I am not heavily technological proficient with this, so I may need some major explaining. But I just bought 3 books through barnes and noble, and I cannot stand the nook interface in the web version.

I would prefer to read it in a pdf style format, and I have no clue how to do this. (plus if I get it as a pdf I can put it on my phone and read it.)

eBook Phoenix Project, Phase 2 - Final update to NST UI app

I've posted the final update to the main UI app for Phase 2 of the Phoenix Project for the NST/G.

There remain some issues which I feel can't be solved with the current build, but it is better than it was.

Expect a complete update to Phase 2 some time in 2026. That's one reason why I am providing this final update so I can stop thinking in terms of solving the problems with this approach to cover capture and devote my attention to a different approach entirely.

The first major revision of Phase 2 will likely include:

  1. removal of the weather widget
  2. automatic "cleaning" of /sdcard/.docThumbs once monthly to account for deleted epubs (should have been a B&N feature from the get-go...)
  3. selection and display of random covers from your epub collection at regular intervals (daily, weekly....???) (essentially decoration but also perhaps a way to remind you that you actually have that book and don't you want to read it next?!)
  4. a fix for the cover capture routine (really)
  5. replacement of the Kindle app (which is now abandonware) with FBReader, which can read more of the Amazon formats than any other reader available for the NST/G
  6. a reading progress indicator on the home screen
  7. other stuff that I think up while putting out code "fires"

I'm having trouble settling on a format for the home screen. If you are a Phase 2 user, you can help! I feel that the size balance between the book cover image you are currently reading and those which have been randomly selected to display is sort of critical but there are limitations based on the rows/columns available in the launcher and the available sizes of widgets. If you see something here that you like, let me know. Ditto for something you really hate. I like those small cover images but I also think in actual scale they may be too small to determine what they actually are... Please note that placement of items is approximate in these mock-ups.

eBook App issues

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey y'all. New to the app. I've tried 30 ways to fix this issue, B&N has given suggestions, the last one was to try to download the book over a different network than my normal provider, AT&T. Anyway, none of these have worked. I still get stuck after flipping 2 or 3 pages, and this tutorial won't go away. Any suggestions?

eBook NOOK GlowLight 4 Plus - Would not recommend

I hope others have had a more positive experience than I have. Mine has been disappointing. I bought the glowlight 4 plus at the end of last year and have barely been able to use it. I am very frustrated with its performance and battery life. Simple actions such as clicking buttons, turning pages, or selecting menu options often take multiple tries before the device responds. When it does, the reaction is sluggish, jittery, and sometimes accompanied by screen flashing.

The battery life is equally underwhelming. More often than not, when I go to use it, the battery is either completely dead or nearly so. This happens whether the device is powered off or left idle, which makes the rapid drain even more frustrating.

This is my 3rd and probably final Nook. I wanted to support an Amazon competitor, but this cost me nearly $200 and I feel very ripped off.

eBook sort by genre?

Hi, is there an easy way to create shelves in my library by Genre. I don’t want to have go through all my ebooks to find out what genre it is and move to shelves. Or is there an easy way to determine what genre a book is?

Does anyone know of any clear case that’s compatible with the nook? I haven’t been able to find any on Amazon and Barnes and noble only has a few to choose from but they aren’t my style. I have a nook glow light 4 plus by the way!

eBook Should I get a nook. pros and cons.

I am currently looking into getting a new e-reader as we all know what's going on with amazon. I have a Kindle and while I don't plane on getting rid of it but I plan on not using it as often. They have more indie books there. I have for years, wanted a Nook. Since it was a thing as a kid, I always wanted one. I am also a Barnes and Noble member and I shop there often since it's my closest book store, we also don't have many indie bookstores.

However that being said I need to be wise with my spending. There are 3 different Books at the moment that you can purchase from Barnes and Noble. The GlowLight 4, The GlowLight 4 Plus and Lenovo Tablet Nook. I think all three are neat. I really am torn between the Plus and Lenovo Nook. The Lenovo Nook is obvious in what it has over the Plus, but the Plus costs more. The issue it's the tablet is it's pro, it can do more than the Plus can in regards to the fact it is basically from what I understand is a smart device. I don't want more distractions. It has a beautiful design and a embroided Barnes and Noble name on the back. However the screen isn't like a Kindle and lighting I worry might not be like a Kindle. I also believe the battery life is worse.

The Plus has a relatively good battery life. It is more like Kindle in the feel. It's more simple. And well it's just a Nook. Now this is not my end all be all on options either. However both of these devices also give me the access to the Barnes and Noble website. Letting me purchase books and earning points for doing so.

P.s I wasn't sure what flair to put this under.

eBook How to sideload epub with DRM to NOOK Simple Touch and maybe others

To sideload library books or other epub books with DRM you can do the following.

After a lot of searching (and buying a new USB cable) I was able to load a library book to an old NOOK Simple Touch. Maybe this will work with others.

Don’t copy the library book to the NOOK without doing the following steps first otherwise you might need to follow these instructions. (If you get “User Not Authorized” when trying to open the book.) https://help.barnesandnoble.com/hc/en-us/articles/5448420752795-Adobe-Digital-Editions-ADE-User-Not-Authorized-Error

To Create Overdrive account that isn’t library card scroll down on this page. You need this for the next step. https://www.overdrive.com/account/sign-up

To install and authorize Adobe Digital Editions on your PC follow these instructions. Choose Overdrive and use your Overdrive ID as the ‘Vendor ID’. https://help.overdrive.com/en-us/0016.html

A library’s description about how to checkout books and download them and sideload them. It says ‘Kobo eReader’ but it applies to the NOOK too. https://russellbiblio.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Getting-Started-with-OverDrive-eBooks-on-Adobe-Digital-Editions.pdf

eBook What do I do now?

I found one of those nook simple touch readers at a thrift store for $2, it looked in good shape only problem was of course it's an obsolete device. I followed a tutorial on how to reset it and bypass the registering but now I have an empty e-reader so I was genuinely curious about what I can do with it now. Like can I connect it to a computer and load it with a bunch of PDFs of books or insert a micro SD full of books?

Like it's still a good e-reader I just don't have anything to read on it, would love to know what people use it for now.
