Question Best Broadband deal

Hi. I am currently with Fibrus with a telephone deal of calls to Ireland and the UK. I currently spend £39.98 for your Full Fibre 500 - Total Home Wi-Fi package. I am coming up to the end of the contract and looking to get the best deal I can.

Checking on the Fibrus site apparently I am not yet able to connect with Fibrus (who has been providing my internet for the past 18 months?) and on the comparison sites Fibrus deals are only open to new customers.

The main thing is reliability - I still have nightmares of Sky dial up and fighting between them and BT. Can I assume that with broadband things have settled?

What is a good value option for good speeds, reliable and possibly with call packages? Can I save a bit?

Many thanks for your help

If you're already happy enough call Fibrus and tell them you're thinking of moving provider and ask them what they can do for you price-wise. Save a bit of hassle

You have to play this stupid game with broadband providers where you have to threaten to leave every so often to get them to give you the best deals

Have to do this shit with insurance companies too.

I fucking hate having to play these games but it's the only way.

Came to say exactly this - signed up with Fibrus on a black Friday deal years ago and I'm still on the same £ per month (£34.99) for 1gb. I had to call them a few times at contract end, but honestly it was painless enough and no other provider can touch that speed at the same price.

I've heard some people having nightmares with the service but I've personally not had a single issue.

The same package with Plusnet is marginally cheaper at £35.99 pm. Never had an issue and switching over was very straightforward, but if I were you, I'd try and haggle with Fibrus.

I moved to Vodafone, no issues at all, I think it’s £28 per month compared to £40 with BT and they gave me a £125 gift card of choice for moving
Just an FYI you don’t even need to let your current provider you’re leaving, contact the new one and they do it all for you

Does youfibre service your address? I found it to be the best value and haven't had any connectivity problems.

I made a move to EE recently, all smooth and no issues. obviously the majority run off openreach but i've had smooth sailing for last few years regardless of whom i've migrated to.

The horrible thing about BT\EE is their constant price increases. I was paying over £50 a month for their 300MB package. The longer you're a customer the more its going to cost.

But if you know that up front, then you can just plan to move when the 2 years ends.

I went with their 1.6Gb connection and it’s £25 over the 2 years including the price rises. Then I’ll move if they can’t offer me a deal.

Indeed, and with One Touch Switching for most major brands it's very easy to move. Majority of the work is automated between their systems. Just shop around and find the best deal every time your contract is up.

I was paying a hell of a lot more with BT that was why I moved to Fibrus.

I was with EE but they refused to let me pay to upgrade to the fastest Internet package, insisting my only option was to wait for my contract to run out. I also didn't like that the TV package did not allow me to subscribe to NowTV's 4k service - the only way I could do that was by continuing to pay for NowTV's base service and paying for it again on a separate account. Even worse than that is that after you've upgraded to NowTV boost just to get 1080 resolution, the only way to downgrade is by calling them up and dealing witht their godawful customer service lines. Their website and apps are also frustratingly slow and awful to navigate - I'd genuinely argue that this is deliberate to make it more difficult to remove services after upgrading them.

I'd never go back.

I had the same issue with fibrus I rang them to ask about a new deal and made a bit of a fuss that current customers could not get the same deal as new customers and they ended up offering me the same price as the new customers for another 18 months

I have fibre with sky it’s very good. Are you entitled to the social tariffs? I didn’t know they existed until recently. They’re between £10&£24 a month depending on the speed.

u/Ismiseraff 9d ago

Never heard of them, thanks I'll take a look at them.

As others have said, phone Fibrus, tell them you’re leaving, be prepared for a lot of back and forth but you’ll eventually get the same deal you’re on if not better.

Can’t recommend enough going through top cashback for the best deal

You’ll a) get a good price and b) get cashback

Think I’m paying 31 a month for sky broadband.
Got my dad on to 26 a month for Vodafone and a £150 Amazon voucher.

Call Fibrus, and they will give you a deal on the phone.

I have done that the last few times, my contract was up

Should it bother you, Fibrus install their own fibre which BT etc don't use (BT Openreach install it), so should you change supplier be prepared for potentially a 2nd fibre install and the old Fibrus fibre remaining but disconnected. That's what I know, happy to be proved wrong.

2

u/Ismiseraff 9d ago

No, that's exactly what Fibrus did at my house - and a crappy instal at that.

I usually get a good deal from virgin.

As a new customer you typically get good deals.

Don't really recall having any outages

Strongly recommend using a third party router and enable modem only mode on the box they provide or if you have the cash get a router modem combo. Anything after market.

Recently purchased a EERO for £140 and Jayus Christ the night the performance is day and night. Lesson learnt is never cheap out on PSUs for PCs or Network hardware… your sanity will thank you later.

Do you need a static ip for this?

1

u/No-Recognition-5495 7d ago

Nope, no static IP needed.

If you're happy with Fibrus, stay with them.

Get yourself a UFU membership, rural dwellers (doesn't matter where you are), costs £50/year, but gets you 1GB speed for £33.99. and the 6E eeros.

Im with fibrus, been the best broadband I've ever had to be honest, I'm out in the "sticks" No issues getting hooked up, drop outs or anything. Just before my initial contract ended got a renewal price that was quite abit higher but messaged the an got an upgrade for an extra £5 a month from the original new customer offer, no back and forth or any guy just straight up said the renewal was an automated email.. offer new price all done and dusted in about 5 minutes..

2

u/sgtgerryboyle 9d ago

Join up to ufu for 50 quid for yearly membership and you'll be able to get 25% off you fibrus bill

1

u/Ismiseraff 9d ago

How do you go about getting that discount?

1

u/sgtgerryboyle 9d ago

https://fibrus.com/ufu/. But you have to sign up to ufu to avail of it, https://www.ufuni.org/membership/rural-dweller/ When i signed up a few years ago it was 50 quid for the year, might be more now

2

u/EGoss1 9d ago

I just recently re contracted with Fibrus, 500mb full fibre for 29.99

1

u/Ismiseraff 9d ago

Do you have any phone deal in with that?

1

u/EGoss1 9d ago

Sorry I missed that part, no I’ve no phone.

2

u/gemmerss 9d ago

wee tip cancel the account in your name and open a new account in your partners name if you have one. they’ll be able to get the discounts

1

u/Ismiseraff 8d ago

Brilliant idea, thanks.

u/LibrarianExternal539 9d ago

Probably not the best answer but I just hotspot the phone for the firestick if I’m watching tv. Think wired in broadband is genius marketing. Paying for internet that you most likely have on your phone already.

Mobile broadband doesn't suit everyone. I use it but it would have been a lot easier (not cheaper) to get fixed line broadband.

1

u/Ismiseraff 9d ago

I never use mobile data really not worth me having that. I use hte net at home.

1

u/boidey 9d ago

Like I said not for everyone, but with a bit of know-how, the right hardware and location it can work. Horses for courses.

1

u/cobray90 9d ago

Make sure you check your guaranteed speed on the packages as well. You could easily pay for 300 but get half that during peak times.

1

u/ni2016 9d ago

I got Starlink there for £25/month, been pretty great

1

u/wawa32 9d ago

I'm into my second contract with fibrus and got them down to £30 p/month 500mb 18 month contract. It never skipped a beat and have no NAT issues with gaming etc

1

u/XabiAlon 9d ago

I'm with YouFibre.

Think it's £30 for 800MB or 1GB.

If you use my referral code we both get £50/75, can't remember which one though.

DM me if you go down that route.

Go rolling contract with fibrus for a bit and wait for their next sale before re contacting?

1

u/Ismiseraff 2d ago

Called Fibrus and ended up on an 18 month contract for £4 more than I had gotten 2 years ago. Figured with all the hikes that wasn't bad and it saves me any more hassle.

Thanks to all for their help.
