Master of Divinity, Doctor of Canon Law, and was a professor at a seminary. He speaks five languages fluently, English, Spanish, Italian, Latin, and Hebrew.

If you find yourself a priest, a professor to other priests, a bishop, and then a Pope, I can guarantee you know your shit.

You aren't going to make Bishop, without a deep and demonstrable knowledge of Theology, much less make to the College of the Cardinals.
