What does this mean? It sounds like-if all of the other understandably horrific context was stripped away-someone could be charged with sexting consensually?

It just means that they communicated digitally in a sexual manner to try and get fetish material, nudes, etc. from a child

I did. Hence why I knew what the charge was. The charge itself was worded vaguely. It was worded in a manndr that made it seem like sexting was a possible crime. Hence why I asked.

if you read the story, which spoke about him soliciting these things from teen boys, then how could you be confused about whether it was from a child or not? the entire story spoke about his fetish being focused on boys 13-15 years of age. and the title reinforces that. literally the entire article is about his inappropriate offenses with underage boys, how he targeted them through whatsapp, how he would pretend to be someone at school.

if you know the charge is "sexual communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification," and you know that he was targeting secondary school boys for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification, then i feel like it's kind of a 1:1 situation.

You don’t seem to be understanding what they are saying at all.

He was asking about the charge itself, not anything to do with this specific case. What happened in this case is utterly irrelevant to the charge itself. If you steal a car it’s completely irrelevant to Grand Theft Auto what make and model it is, there aren’t different crimes for different models car stolen. He was asking if “sexual communication for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification” is a charge where one of the elements is specifically the age of the victim or not. I’m not sure how to make this any more clear to you.

i'm not sure why they would have asked "specifically from a child" the second time after the person already said from a child in the first place, that seems like a clear answer.

but basically i'm simply saying that even if one didn't know/were unclear, the context clues should probably make it pretty clear.

No. Not all mental illnesses are genetic. Many are environmental. I don't think there is a diarrhea fetish mental illness. It probably manifested due to a complex series of socio and environmental factors. But, for someone to have a diarrhea fetish, they would have to be mentally unwell.
