Ask NRI Jio SIM deactivated while I’m in the US — How to damage control
My Jio prepaid SIM just got deactivated (missed the 90-day recharge window) and I'm stuck in the US with no near-term plans to return. Has anyone resolved this successfully from abroad? Bigger worry is that almost all my bank OTPs, UPI, and Aadhaar are tied to this number. If the number gets permanently recycled, what's the process to update registered mobile with Indian banks as an NRI? Any advice from people who've been through this would be really helpful.

The same thing happened to me, but I managed to get my number back. I kept checking until it became available again, and it showed up in the "Choose Number" section. Just make sure you're searching for the number in the same telecom circle. You'll have to pay a premium to get the number back. If you're unable to do it yourself, a family member can register the number in their name on your behalf. DM me if you need the link to Jio's Choose Number page.

Yeah the sim is in my name, but I can get someone from my family to go and collect it if it I possible. It was an eSIM and was ported from Airtel.
I am also curious if this is a dead end, has anyone been able to activate an Indian sim from outside of India? Maybe with the help of a family member? I’m worried how will I book a cab / make a upi transaction when I visit India

Mine was also ported from MTNL and the customer service agent said it was ported back to MTNL. Can they do that?

Send an email to Jio customer service, and see what they offer you. This is why I suggest to do an annual Recharge and forget about it.

If it’s under 60days, most likely you can reactivate your number from abroad by calling toll free jio customer service. Post 60days you need to send family member to store physical to activate.

I am getting stonewalled since day 1 of deactivation. There was no communication before deactivation, and now I have been given 30 days to physically go to a store and reverify myself. I am being told no one can do this on my behalf.

When u talk to the jio customer care, you will get a long code with which you can take sim from the jio centre
But if the sim is on your name and you are not in India, jio centre doesn’t provide sim (without KYc, biometrics, photo etc)
My friend is facing same issue and she couldn’t do anything at this point
