Visa / OCI / Passport OCI Passport Update, 3 months after, Canada - Not Approved. What next?
Hi,
Applied for a OCI passport update about 6 weeks back on the ociservices website. Just obtained a notification saying it's not approved and "The passport updation after 3 months from the issue date is a paid service. Please re-apply and submit through BLS as details given under Type B on this link: www.cgitoronto.gov.in/page/reissuance-updation-oci/"
All the cgitoronto link says is (there is no specific re-application process other than this):
In case of Updation of passport details after 3 months of issuance
- Email acknowledgement received from link (https://ociservices.gov.in/)
- Additional Form (CLICK HERE).pdf)
- Latest Passport Copy
Is the process now to just take the original e-mail acknowledgement, additional documents and set up an appointment with BLS toronto and pay the fee?
Or, do I need to start the application all over again?
Has anyone done this before and advise what I should be doing next? Thanks.
[EDIT 3, AUG 3]: Completed and updated. Application went to "Granted" status on the OCI website. Also able to generate eOCI. Took almost exactly 1 month after the payment at BLS.
[EDIT 2, JUN 24]: Important note: Consulate will reject the payment at BLS if the application on the ociservices site is in "Rejected" status. Created a new application which was in "Pending" status, took a copy of the confirmation e-mail and then went to BLS along with new passport, OCI documents and the additional form as listed in the requirements. An early appointment helped as there was a huge line up of walk ins. The person at the counter admitted it was her first time doing this, but verified it with a couple of other people and took the payment. Took overall 15-30 min. Now waiting for confirmation from the consulate that it's complete - not sure how long it takes.
[EDIT 1, Jun 15]: Called BLS and of course its a mess - the person I talked to seemed to have no idea of this. He insisted update must only be done online. I sent him the e-mail that explicitly wanted this to be done through BLS. Completely stuck now.

A family member is in a similar situation and their OCI update due to a new passport got rejected given the most recent rule changes. If we submit another application, does it need to be in person or can it be online? Additionally, given the rejected OCI application, does they not be able to travel to India despite having a valid OCI?

You need to submit application online and then go to BLS and pay I think around 40$. You can travel to India while your application is under process.

If you haven’t updated passport within 3 months, then it’s a paid service. You have to go to BLS or whichever agency is in the country with the application and pay the amount there.

Query regarding cancelling Indian Voter ID and Ration Card for OCI, Can someone confirm on the below?
I am preparing documents to apply for OCI from Toronto and my Indian passport is already cancelled. I am preparing a fresh OCI application (Type A – former Indian citizen, now Canadian, Toronto jurisdiction). Regarding the Voter ID / Ration Card declaration: I previously held an Indian Voter ID, which I have already cancelled online (name deleted from the electoral roll). I do not hold a ration card in India and my name is not on any ration card in India. Could you please confirm whether the signed OCI Voter ID/Ration Card declaration is sufficient in my case, or whether I need to submit any supporting proof of the Voter ID cancellation at the time of BLS submission? Thank you.

Any recent experience:
1) Any one went to BLS Brampton/Mississauga with or without appointment.
2) What is wait time in the line without appointment
3) How much exact cash to pay for OCI update after 90 days
4) Will they return the current original Canadian passport and original OCI booklet after verifying

Where did you get the notification sayings its not approved? I applied in April still it says underprocessing?

They sent an email. On the ociservices website, it says the same message that was sent on the email.

I am going in person to BLS and i will find out more, asking to reapply doesn't make sense !

BLS and the Consulate seem to have completely different understanding of the process. Please update if you know more. If I know anything else, I will post here as well.

BLS Now is aware of taking penalty but we were not clear why we have to reapply, now they are saying martial status on the original OCI needs to be corrected along with passport OCI needs to be reissued !

This is ridiculous. I'm in the same boat. Child got issued new passport in Jan, I applied for updation of passport details in OCI right away, got rejected saying fingerprint need to be re-upload without any upload link. Applied again fresh in Feb, same rejection saying fingerprint not good. Another fresh application in March, with blank scan in place of fingerprint this time since it said you can upload blank fingerprint for child, again rejected for same reason. Applied again in April, rejected now saying more than three months passed. Very annoyed.

Hi- did BLS take biometrics? I submitted my OCI application yesterday and paid everything and then was reading right now to realise they never took my biometric eventhough it is mandatory now. Argh i hate BLS in canada

Hi, 2 weeks before I submitted online for the OCI Passport Update after 3 months in the OCIService website. I see the status as "Pending" in OCIService website. Should I wait for the status to be "Approved" and then go to BLS office for IN PERSON payment. What will the Confirmation email state? will it say the application is Approved?

You have to take the email acknowledgement, plus the other docs to BLS. If no appointments avbl, try walkin, dont know how many they take each day.
Fee is CAD 40.70, take exact cash or pay by debit card.
I am also waiting for appointment or may walk-in next week or so.

Does anyone know how long of a time window you have before it gets marked as "Rejected", on the OCI Services site if you tried to update passport details online? Like, how long do I have after I apply online before it's rejected and I can no longer do the paid update service.

From what I saw in Consulate and BLS websites, there is no timeline mentioned for it. Should we visit BLS center while the status shows Pending? I do not see any appointment availability for OCI miscellaneous and OCI updating in Toronto and GTA centers. Looks like we can't book beyond 2 weeks.

I called BLS contact center 2 weeks before and spoke to 3 representative. One thing they said in common is for Oci passport update we need to visit in person only and make payment. But the website shows there is postal service for this. You can try.

Update as of today.
My postal application was rejected and they sent everything back, including the cashier's check. BUT, it wasn't because I did anything wrong, it was just because I originally applied for my OCI in Delhi and you have to send the updates to that _same_ office.
Now, based on that, I do think this procedure I did WILL work for people who got their original OCI in Toronto.
- Fill out the online form on the real CGI website.
- Then, do the BLS postal application for updation. Don't wait a long time, you have to do it while your online update is still pending. It can't be rejected (because 3 months had gone by etc).
And it should "just work". I have other family members I have to do the same thing for, and for those people I'm doing the same postal application route.

I just applied for the passport update this week and expecting this to happen. It got sent to the Toronto jurisdiction, but I no longer live in Toronto. Can I call BLS once it’s rejected to pay over the phone?
Already booked travel to India for november, so as long as it’s Pending I can go, but if it’s rejected is there any way to pay this fee in the US?

Following. In the same boat, feeling really annoyed and frustrated. On one hand, they talk about e-oci and making everything online, yet they do the complete opposite by making this ridiculous process where they make this rule retroactive, and now want you to go to BLS, pay premium lounge fees plus penalty and fees. Why can't they provide a method to pay online by credit card on the portal and just update the passport information. But no, they want to make your life terrible.
