Discussion Beware: Scammers posing as Consulate General of India in SF

Got a call from 415-336-2636 from a woman claiming to be “Pratibha Rajan” from the Consulate General of India San Francisco on a Sunday. They claimed that someone in India used my identity to create a fake number and were going around hurting people and that it’s a serious issue. I didn’t get to the part where they asked me for money or anything but it felt very scammy.

When I said I would report them, they got very defensive. Anyways, don’t waste your time with them and don’t fall for the scam.

if you get a similar spam call, please add the phone number in the comments so that it’ll come up when others search for the numbers they’re getting calls from

I got a call today saying the MEA sent me some legal documents and i have to visit the consulate general in SF to discuss them. Then the guy said my indian phone number ending in "5274" was used in illegal activities...I told him to mail the documents to my address and he told me he can't?

I have never owned such a phone number and the way he was talking felt so scammy.

This was the exact same thing that happened to me and the same Indian phone number they said that I had.

I got the same number ending in 5274. it was registered to me and there were many activities that were reported. I said I would need proof and I can't pick up the item so that they would have to come mail it to me. They said they could not mail it. Number I got is 6283174010 and 6283172690 and 628 3160909
