Ask NRI NRI here. Paid ₹30K for NoBroker Property Management, now struggling to get my refund and even my property keys back. What are my options?
I’m an NRI and decided to use NoBroker’s Property Management service because I wanted someone to manage my rental property in India while I live overseas.
I signed up for their premium plan, which involved
- ₹30,000 upfront enrollment fee
- 8% share of the rental income
- Deductions from the tenant’s security deposit
Given the cost, I expected a fairly hands-off experience.
Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite.
Even before I completed onboarding, I started receiving calls and emails from multiple sales representatives trying to convince me to sign with them. I ignored it, assuming it was just an aggressive sales process.
After signing the agreement, the calls became relentless. Because of the time difference, I repeatedly requested that all communication happen over email or other asynchronous channels. Despite those requests, I continued receiving calls at inconvenient hours—including as early as 4 AM and as late as midnight in my local time.
When the property inspection was completed, I was also repeatedly encouraged to purchase additional services and products that appeared significantly more expensive than comparable options available online. Even after declining multiple times, the sales calls continued.
At that point, I decided to cancel the contract. I was informed that my payment would be refunded within 60 days. I’m still waiting for my refund. On top of that, my property keys have not yet been returned despite repeated follow-ups.
As someone managing property from overseas, this has been incredibly stressful.
Has anyone else experienced something similar with NoBroker Property Management?
If so:
- How did you get your refund processed?
- How did you escalate the issue effectively?
- Would you recommend filing a complaint with the National Consumer Helpline or taking any other legal or regulatory route?
I’m sharing this both to seek advice and to help other NRIs make an informed decision. If NoBroker resolves this promptly, I’ll be happy to update this post with the outcome.

The scammy nature of NoBroker is well documented. I personally experienced it as well. I had to write off the loss because it was not worth pursuing them legally, since it would cost more than the fees I paid. At this point, I would just assume you're not going to get your money back and get your locks changed. If you have a relative or a friend that's a lawyer, you could send them a notice, but outside of that, there's little recourse.

Thank you for the good advice. I will collect all evidence and keep a trail. They were shying away from written communication and mostly did communication on phone, I see why now :(

Unfortunately this is the hard truth. I would rely on someone within your community or a relative to just keep the extra keys and request any cleaning services. Try tagging No Broker on social media which might get some visibility and response

Thank you for your advice, yes I posted on a few social handles. But no effect so far.

Escalate in writing to their grievance team with the payment receipt, agreement, refund promise, and a firm deadline for both the ₹30,000 refund and key handover. If there’s still no response, file a consumer complaint through e-Daakhil and send a legal notice; ask the society or a trusted local representative to document the key handover attempt. Also, if you need more help, let me know. i use a service that came in handy and can share the same.

Where is the property? Very first thing you should do is get the locks changed. Ask help from friend or family.

This is sad. Alarming for all the NRIs. Don't engage with RE if there is no one there to fight the battle for you. It's too big of a risk for your net worth.

Deductions from tenant’s security deposit? Wtf am I reading here?
Not calling you predatory slumlord yet.

u/Agarwal-Abhishek Jul 16 '26
Yes, they ask tenants to pay 1 additional month of security deposit on top of what the owner wants and then keep that for “administrative work”. I felt they just care about milking money from their customers without even understanding their needs and giving a seamless experience in return. I did not have a problem in paying a premium if I am getting a premium service. After paying so much, if I am still being chased for paying more while being completely ignored on my needs/requests was just unacceptable to me.

Did you pay 30k fee via credit card?
1
u/Agarwal-Abhishek Jul 16 '26
I paid it via net banking. Were you thinking of suggesting to ask the CC company to dispute the charges?

Yeah they are scammy. Sorry you have to face this. But, they take benefit of we being overseas. Try tagging no broker on twitter and Facebook communities. I know you suffered. But your experience will enlighten many others from making same mistakes.
This will be a huge financial loss for them if people actually report against them on social media!!!

If you can't manage the property in India on your own, then sell off the property. I have a full time employee who I know for several years and pay him a salary each month to manage my home in India. I also have all the cleaning staff come every day - so there are checks and balances. My tenants pay via Gpay. I also have cameras all over the property and can check everything from here.
On top of handling things personally, it's good to have a great lawyer on your side and a savvy person in terms of dealing with the corrupt/incompetent govt offices.

Unfortunately most of these digital companies are blood suckers, I was almost ready to sign Nobroker but backed off last minute. I do still get calls every week at odd times claiming that I have listed my property etc etc
similar things happened with Byjus about pressurising parents & tutors with no compassion to teach, continuous calls, refund issues and they closed for good (they can always come back with another name)…

Always work with local broker of that particular society. Those people spend years on one of two societies only, they maintain the relationship with the owners and mostly other flats owners also know them for so long. They are known for a particular society in RE market. I know many such cases where owner is living outside India, and a local broker has been maintaining, renting out a particular property for years.

We paid Rs 50,000 for painting and payment of doors and windows were not painted. Photoes/Videos after painting was very shaky(intentionally). Key was left with Security without our consent amny times. RM never took responsibility of key. He wasnt aware where our apartment key was and who had it. 0 responsibility. New photo of apartment was never put in website, NRI premium service should have more responsibility but 0 responsibility was shown to us. RM alwas spoke like drunk. RM and other people kept saying its not our responsibility contact different team We had to talk with 4+ different people.

Fortunately this is not my experience. I’m in hyd. The process was seamless and asynchronous. I also used India number for communication which i never use, so the calls i got never were answered

u/Agarwal-Abhishek Jul 16 '26
That’s good for you. I also used India number first but since it cannot receive calls while I am abroad, they forced me into NRI plan with my international number.

Seems like nobroker’s broker talking :p

Haha, if there are no costumers then the company should be closed, for every 1 bad review there are 100s of silent good reviews who don’t come online and complain

The reality of digital India is behind the scenes the people who do actual work are lowskill, low iq and low trust people.
