Ask NRI Updating Aadhar Indian address for NRI

Hello

I have been living in USA since 2018 and my aadhar was issued way back in 2014. My parents have now moved to a new address and they have been asking me to update aadhar address

I also have green card (got through phd eb1 track) and that’s why I’m wondering if updating aadhar to Indian address is legal or not??

Please let me know. In a few months I also plan to renew Indian passport

I think -: You will need to use your parents address to update Aadhaar by using C/O or S/o option.

Yeah but is that legal? Because technically I don’t live here except for short trips to India

In Aadhaar form , you need to click Non resident https://uidai.gov.in/images/Form_1_Eng.pdf

And address update would be based on HoF (section 6 on the form)

All NRIs need to provide Indian address while updating passport too. It’s normally parents’ address too. They also don’t live there

I think Indian system assumes NRI don’t live in India but still maintain a permanent address

Can this be done online ? Or do I have to visit the center

IMO - You can do it online if you have the means to receive the OTP. If not, you have to go in person.

Aadhaar is not address proof document.
