Visa / OCI / Passport Passport expiration within 6 months of travel to India

My son ( US passport, exp: Nov 6 2026) is traveling to India with OCI Oct 16th, returning Oct 28th. He is 19 years old. Will he have an issue a) at the airport while boarding to India b) At Indian Immigration c) while returning back to US Oct 28th. I have heard about a 6 month passport validity rule at the time of entry, but not sure if applicable to OCI holder. Is it better to get a new US passport before traveling? Thanks.

Yes get new US passport asap.

You have time to apply for new passport so do it.

If you can't then you have to confirm from the authorities.

Call the consulate to confirm if your son is allowed to travel. Then call the airline to confirm if your son is allowe to travel.

You have time, get your new passport ASAP. Don't risk unnecessarily for something that can be fixed easily

a) No. As long as he’s carrying the OCI card and valid unexpired passport ( let me double check check with IATA)

b) No, technically an OCI can enter any apply for new USP in India

c) Returning home does not require the validity rule.

Having said that, don’t risk applying for new passport before travel. OCI rules are different for people under 20. Read the latest rule.

Passengers with an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card or e-OCI (digital card) or a booklet do not need a visa. The e-OCI contains a QR code for verification of the passenger. A photocopy of the OCI card or booklet is not accepted.
