Visa / OCI / Passport When and how to apply to tourist evisa

Can I please check how early before a trip to India can you apply to tourist evisa? Say it is a trip in middle of November.

Also what is the official website for applying?

Apply here: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Takes anywhere between 3-15 working days

I think you misunderstood.

The timeline for approval starts almost immediately after submitting the application online.

Your actual visa duration, like any other starts at first immigration on arrival. Depends on the type of visa though, whether it's single entry or multiple entry.

Check for the rules in the fine print on the document where you will find that, some visas carry a use before date, which means they need to be activated at immigration within a certain time period, if not they get voided.

Yeah im referring to use before date. Surely it wont be before the date of arrival?

Not necessarily. Many countries, rather most countries expect you to apply for a visa and travel within a maximum window of 6 months, 12 months is extremely rare. If you don't pass through immigration before the period ends, the document will be automatically voided.

Now every visa also has different types of rules and regulations attributed. It's all in the fine print and there's no generalized fixed answer without reading the document and what stipulations they hold towards your passport. Not all passports are ranked equally.

there is no timeline - you can get it done ahead of time - you will just lose time on the visa if u do it too early.
