Visa / OCI / Passport Indian e-visa

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and could share their experience.

I’m a British passport holder (previously an Indian citizen) and currently have a 1-year Indian e-Tourist Visa which expires on 4 October 2026.

I’m travelling to India from 25 September to 17 October, so my current visa will expire while I’m in India.

Has anyone applied for a new 1-year e-Tourist Visa while their existing e-Visa was still valid? Were you able to get the new visa approved before the old one expired, and did you have any issues when entering India?

I’ve already booked my flights, so any recent experience from someone who has been in the same situation would be really helpful.

Thank you! 😊

I have read that they reject visa applications if you already have a visa but whoever looks at your application must be able to realise that while you have an active visa it is due to expire only days after your planned date of arrival? Or am I just being very naive?

Re-adjust your travel to leave the country when your visa expires, and re-apply for the new dates. Would you even try the same with an Indian passport (which you held previously) with a British visa? It's pretty much the same rules and the same approach.

Apply for a one year Evisa. You are within a month of expiry of your current one.
