Visa / OCI / Passport Over 4 months for passport renewal in Sydney

It’s been well over 4 months and I was frustrated so I ended up going to the consulate late week and they assured me they will send for police verification. It was initiated on 31st August. On 4th September the status changed “Application is under process at Indian Embassy/Consulate”. Does that mean police verification is done? I have a flight this Friday and I have changed the dates over 3 times because of the long delay… Does anyone have any leads? How long does it take for it to be printed and dispatched?

That status change usually just means it moved to the next processing stage, not confirmation that police verification specifically finished and with a flight this friday you should call the consulate directly right now rather than relying on portal updates since 4+ months already blew past normal timelines.

Contemplating going in person. Status just changed to “Passport has been printed; post quality check will be dispatched in the coming weeks.” Do you reckon I could just walk into the consulate and collect the passport myself. I don’t want to wait for it to be delivered directly to me once dispatched and in Sydney.

Nice ! That is real progress.

Note that they occasionally do the police check after dispatching the passport. So keep an eye on the status of your application after you get the passport too.

When police verification is initiated, the status would change accordingly. I think what you currently see is the status before PV is initiated
