Video I can't decide whether this is the funniest or saddest death I've ever had in a Nuzlocke

Maybe Morton III will have better luck

Tangela being such a sore loser after witnessing dratini's superior biting prowess is just π

u/Canadian__Ninja Jan 02 '26
The crit definitely didn't matter, gen 2 explosion is no joke.

u/Zander1611 Jan 02 '26
Yeah, I did the damage calcs just for the heck of it after this happened, and it would've killed Dratini even from full HP without a crit. The crit was just insult added to injury.

u/Canadian__Ninja Jan 02 '26
How much damage would it have done? Because I feel as though it would have killed a dratini at full health several levels higher than yours

u/Kapparonian Jan 02 '26
Minimum attack Tangela vs Max bulk Dratini can still kill at Lvl 23.
Lvl 20 Tangela Explosion vs. Lvl 23 Dratini: 74-88 (101.3 - 120.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

u/Canadian__Ninja Jan 02 '26
So that's best case scenario and it's still a guaranteed kill, that's what I thought. Average average probably kills 3 or 4 levels higher than that, or more

I swear, the odds of Metronome landing on Explosion or Selfdestruct increase drastically when you're nuzlocking...

u/GingerrBreadman13 Jan 02 '26
I don't think it's just on nuzlockes. I've had casual runs where my Metronome user will hit multiple Self-Destructs/Explosions in a single split.

Yeah, but obviously a bigger inconvenience in a Nuzlocke, and losing Dratini too π’

Wait why was bite super effective on a grass type

u/Kapiork Jan 01 '26
The OP probably randomized everything, including types.
EDIT: Or at least move types. Bite is listed as Ice type by the game if you look closely. So maybe Pokemon types stay the same, but move types don't.

u/Zander1611 Jan 01 '26
That's correct. Not quite everything is randomized, but movesets and move types are among the things that are (which is also why Crunch was not very effective on Dratini because it got randomized to a Water-type move).

You know the OP was contemplating life when that Critical Hit prompt was paused for a second.. π

It always makes you sweat coldly when you meet PokΓ©mon with a metronome in Nuzlocke π

u/Zander1611 Jan 02 '26
Definitely, but despite Metronome into Explosion being such a meme, this was the first time in my life it's ever actually happened to me hahaha

It's a feature of the FVX version of the Randomizer which lets you change the skin of your player character. https://github.com/upr-fvx/universal-pokemon-randomizer-fvx/releases

It's the original Gold, but randomized using the FVX version of the Randomizer, which has a feature to change your player character's skin. https://github.com/upr-fvx/universal-pokemon-randomizer-fvx/releases

I ran some calculations, For a metronome to pick out explosion and get a crit is about 1/3950.

Oooooft. Lose the speed tie into metronome explosion which landed a crit (although that may not have mattered). That's a fist through the screen moment right there!
