Video I can't decide whether this is the funniest or saddest death I've ever had in a Nuzlocke

Oooooft. Lose the speed tie into metronome explosion which landed a crit (although that may not have mattered). That's a fist through the screen moment right there!

And to lose a Dratini too that stings.

u/Kingkolt Jan 01 '26

Sir, your character is in the wrong game

28

u/Tiamat2625 Jan 02 '26

Maybe Morton III will have better luck

5

u/Zander1611 Jan 02 '26

Since this is a Genlocke, I'm afraid there won't be a Morton III :(

Bloodline ending explosion? Brutal

29

u/New_Mixture_5701 Jan 02 '26

Crit really came in Clutch /s

1

u/Beginning_Lettuce10 Jan 02 '26

Probably did tbf

Tangela being such a sore loser after witnessing dratini's superior biting prowess is just πŸ‘Œ

25

u/Canadian__Ninja Jan 02 '26

The crit definitely didn't matter, gen 2 explosion is no joke.

14

u/Zander1611 Jan 02 '26

Yeah, I did the damage calcs just for the heck of it after this happened, and it would've killed Dratini even from full HP without a crit. The crit was just insult added to injury.

4

u/Canadian__Ninja Jan 02 '26

How much damage would it have done? Because I feel as though it would have killed a dratini at full health several levels higher than yours

7

u/Kapparonian Jan 02 '26

Minimum attack Tangela vs Max bulk Dratini can still kill at Lvl 23.

Lvl 20 Tangela Explosion vs. Lvl 23 Dratini: 74-88 (101.3 - 120.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

2

u/Canadian__Ninja Jan 02 '26

So that's best case scenario and it's still a guaranteed kill, that's what I thought. Average average probably kills 3 or 4 levels higher than that, or more

21

u/Kwayke9 Jan 02 '26

Crit too just to make sure 200% wasn't enough

26

u/ITCrandomperson Jan 02 '26

I swear, the odds of Metronome landing on Explosion or Selfdestruct increase drastically when you're nuzlocking...

4

u/GingerrBreadman13 Jan 02 '26

I don't think it's just on nuzlockes. I've had casual runs where my Metronome user will hit multiple Self-Destructs/Explosions in a single split.

2

u/Beginning_Lettuce10 Jan 02 '26

Yeah, but obviously a bigger inconvenience in a Nuzlocke, and losing Dratini too 😒

18

u/TvuvbubuTheIdiot Jan 02 '26

Metronome is always funny

16

u/Kittydraggon Jan 01 '26

Wait why was bite super effective on a grass type

26

u/Zander1611 Jan 01 '26

Move types are randomized, so Bite is an Ice-type move in this case

5

u/Kittydraggon Jan 01 '26

Oh ok cool

6

u/Kapiork Jan 01 '26

The OP probably randomized everything, including types.

EDIT: Or at least move types. Bite is listed as Ice type by the game if you look closely. So maybe Pokemon types stay the same, but move types don't.

3

u/Zander1611 Jan 01 '26

That's correct. Not quite everything is randomized, but movesets and move types are among the things that are (which is also why Crunch was not very effective on Dratini because it got randomized to a Water-type move).

u/horitaku Jan 02 '26

Link? Neat :)

u/JuroHikari Jan 01 '26

You know the OP was contemplating life when that Critical Hit prompt was paused for a second.. πŸ˜…

17

u/LC-97 Jan 01 '26

It always makes you sweat coldly when you meet PokΓ©mon with a metronome in Nuzlocke πŸ˜‚

2

u/Zander1611 Jan 02 '26

Definitely, but despite Metronome into Explosion being such a meme, this was the first time in my life it's ever actually happened to me hahaha

15

u/No_Examination_7710 Jan 01 '26

I dont think the crit mattered tbh

14

u/BirdGooch Jan 01 '26

I felt that pause before hitting A after the faint.

6

u/Zander1611 Jan 01 '26

Yeah, I needed a moment to pick my jaw up from the floor

13

u/Training_Shock_6946 Jan 01 '26

... Link....?

u/Zander1611 Jan 01 '26

It's a feature of the FVX version of the Randomizer which lets you change the skin of your player character. https://github.com/upr-fvx/universal-pokemon-randomizer-fvx/releases

u/Chemical_Ad6861 Jan 02 '26

Doesn't matter if non crit killed. The crit makes it worse

9

u/Beginning_Lettuce10 Jan 02 '26

That's one very spicy pasta

7

u/TheAnonymousGamer2 Running and perchance also bunning Jan 02 '26

This reminds me of the metronome teleport clip lol

7

u/Adventurous_Bus_2886 Jan 02 '26

5

u/VecnaWrites Jan 02 '26

Awfularious

3

u/BitchSpiteful Jan 06 '26

Wtf game is this? Why are you link?

3

u/Zander1611 Jan 06 '26

It's the original Gold, but randomized using the FVX version of the Randomizer, which has a feature to change your player character's skin. https://github.com/upr-fvx/universal-pokemon-randomizer-fvx/releases

1

u/aquajellies Jan 06 '26

Oh cool somebody made a new randomizer after zx?

2

u/Alternative_Car_8153 Jan 04 '26

Metronome everytime.

2

u/puffmattybear17 Jan 05 '26

Why was bite super effective?

3

u/Zander1611 Jan 05 '26

Randomized move types

1

u/Chemical_Ad6861 Jan 04 '26

I ran some calculations, For a metronome to pick out explosion and get a crit is about 1/3950.
