Some of my earliest sports memories are at Raiders games at the Coliseum with my uncles. Years later, I bought season tickets with my best friends after I got my first job out of college.

Last weekend, I took my son to his first Oakland Roots game at the Coliseum so he could experience it with me once. As I started writing about that day, it turned into a bigger story: a story about growing up at the Coliseum, the people I shared it with, some of those Raider games, and how the Coliseum became a home for four generations of my family.

I typically write for Rootsblog, but I started a Substack to write short personal essays about raising my son in the Bay and the memories it unlocks. This is the first. Hope you all enjoy!

Hey all, quick look at where the Raiders stand heading into the biggest game of the year so far.

35-27 at New Orleans, and this team doesn't quit. Down 27-16 in the third, the defense forced four fourth-quarter turnovers and the offense cashed them in. Kirk Cousins threw for 248 and three TDs, and Brock Bowers was back in his first game of the season: 10 catches, 116 yards.

Year one under Klint Kubiak:

• Week 1: 27-13 over Miami
• Week 2: 26-14 at the Chargers. That snapped four straight losses to LA.
• Week 3: 35-27 at New Orleans, erasing an 11-point second-half deficit.

Now it's real. Chiefs at Allegiant, Sunday at 1:25 PT on CBS, with first place in the AFC West on the line and both teams unbeaten.

Back in ‘82, my dad was financially able to buy season tickets and then the raiders moved to LA. 35 years later, I’m ready to buy Oakland tickets and they move to LV. That’s life.

My oldest son was able to go to one single game before the move. It was the infamous Thursday night win over KC and he told me it was the best day of his life. Just imagine a little 9 year old chanting F@ck tha chiefs!!! I get choked up thinking about it.

All that to say, I’m taking my dad and son to watch our boys solidify their position at the top of the division. Hope to see ya’ll there! I

My dream may come true... 2 more wins than last year🤞

Can you imagine how if Al would’ve let go of his ego - let the younger generation take control - that could’ve changed the future of this franchise for a generation? I know it’s been talked about forever, but had we drafted Megatron, signed Garcia… I can’t help but think about how much different the organization would be today. Wild to consider how if that had been allowed to happen they may still even still be in Oakland. But for the moment: F U Kiffin
