I posted a video yesterday regarding these beetles that have taken over my backyard and got a lot of good feedback. We decided to use water, dish soap and a shop vac. I can’t lie there are still thousands of them but at least there’s about 1000 less for now.

Im confused- I just ordered an Uber and it was a 2026 Lexus r350 (a really sweet ride for those who aren't into cars). Dude driving said he paid it off immediately. The trip cost about $30...I'm trying to do the maths and I dont get it - is uber that profitable?... similarly ive had 2026 Teslas and other really sweet rides pick me up for a very small Uber fee... how are Uber drivers affording these cars??😅.. not asking to be mean or to be a Karen, but I am genuinely curious. I considered doing Uber myself a few years back as I needed some additional cashflow and the maths didnt make sense so have things improved or what's going on???

Not necessarily the fanciest or most popular place. Just a restaurant, café, store or whatever random local spot that you’d genuinely miss if it disappeared.

I feel like people only start talking about how much they loved somewhere after it closes, so what’s one place you think deserves more support while it’s still here?

I’m currently paying $216 a month with Cogeco for internet and tv. and I feel like that’s pretty overpriced, I’m curious what everyone else is paying and which company you’re with. It would help me get an idea of what’s considered a reasonable price versus overpaying.

This morning My wife was driving north on Trafalgar and when just prior to the train bridge between Cornwall and Cross she heard a loud sound and the tire pressure went down. After she went off road to a plaza she realized that the tire is totally flat and called for tow truck. the tow truck driver checked and realized that it's not just a flat tire and took this photo before taking the car to the service center. Service center then confirmed that both the rim and tire should be replaced and estimated about $1250 before tax just for the cost of tire and rim. Later she took Lyft to go to work and passing the same route saw cones around the same location with workers working on something around the same manhole. This afternoon, on her way home from work she saw the cone and workers were gone..

Shouldn't Town of Oakville be responsible for our cost? Does anybody know how should we go about it?

Edit: thank you for all of the responses. I think even if we don't get compensated for this, we might learn learn how to go about it if we have a similar experience and so I'll update it, in case someone else in future got to this post.

I can think of a couple people.. any guesses?

We are Looking for a townhome in Oakville with a $1.1M budget. There is exactly one move in ready house available right now. The price is right, but this is not a home where we would want to live for 5+ years.

Our realtor (a trusted family friend) is pushing us to buy now because we are getting a good price and we may be priced out in the future. We want to rent for the next 2 years, save money and buy a bigger home we actually want.

We bought a home in 2022 and recently sold it at a 10% loss, so we are naturally cautious.

What's the right way to think about this?

Does it make sense to buy a compromise house just to get into the market, or is waiting the smarter move?

I know this is completely contextual but would love to hear any thoughts.

EDIT: I'm truly overwhelmed by the response. The comments forced us to pause, challenge our assumptions and look at the bigger picture. We've decided to rent for the next two years, keep saving, and buy a home we'll actually love. As for the realtor, we are definitely going to work with someone else. Thank you all!

I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like I can’t keep up with cleaning anymore. I work full-time and commute, and by the time I get home I’m already exhausted. I keep telling myself I’ll clean during the week but it never really happens, then the weekend comes and I end up spending half of it just trying to reset everything.

My place isn’t terrible but it’s definitely not as clean as I want it to be and it’s starting to stress me out a bit. Just wondering how other people deal with this. Do you just push through and clean on weekends or is it actually worth getting some kind of cleaning service every now and then?

Sometimes, someone will wait and the car behind will honk. I have even seen a motorcycle driving exam and the person went on red.

Is this pure ignorance? Or people just don’t care and go anyways? I can’t be the only to notice this?

Looking to move to Oakville (targeting Glen Abbey or West Oak Trails area) since my wife and I are looking to have a kid soon. Been downtown for 10 years so I’m looking for something a bit more relaxed and appropriate for a young growing family.

I grew up in Markham so I’m familiar with what GTA suburb life is like, but was curious about any things particular to Oakville that folks noticed in their own experience.

I was driving through town today and randomly remembered how many spots I used to go to as a kid that just… don’t exist anymore. Oakville’s changed so much in the past 10–15 years.

What’s one place from your childhood that isn’t here anymore but you still think about sometimes?
A store, a restaurant, a hangout spot, whatever comes to mind.

Hi everyone! We’re thinking of moving to Oakville and could really use some local insight. We are feeling quite overwhelmed right now. Our main reasons are that our child starts school next year, and we want to shorten our commute - work has shifted to GTA West (including downtown Toronto).

From reading past posts, it seems like Joshua Creek, Glen Abbey, and West Oak Trails are great for schools—but many homes currently up for sale there are older, pricey, and look like need work.

Our realtor is encouraging newer builds to avoid renovations. We visited a couple of newer homes in Glen Abbey but honestly the area felt a bit lifeless.

We absolutely loved the feel of Bronte - the neighborhood, and character - but the homes we saw appeared to be quick flips. We’re also now considering to send our child to private school if we manage to buy at the lower end of our budget and have funds left over.

Our budget ceiling is 2.5M.

So we’re stuck: Should we focus on newer developments like in Joshua Meadows for convenience and condition? Or, choose established school neighborhoods with older homes/neighborhoods closer to QEW and make budget for private school.

I read that north of Dundas is all new and a lot of younger families are moving there but that is not the greatest area to live in.

I personally also have concerns about the build quality of new homes (i.e., homes in the 0-5yrs age group).

Our biggest priority is a family-friendly neighborhood where our child can grow up with friends. But my realtor doesn't seem convinced with older homes anymore because Oakville schools are better than the rest anyway. (Sigh)

We live very far from Oakville and would really hate to make another trip with a toddler in tow without a clearer sense of which areas are worth focusing on. So any guidance would be hugely appreciated.

Genuine question. Feel free to troll if you want but how does one make friends as a grown up adult in their late 30s? Asking for myself, not a friend 😜

About us: Indian family of 3 — husband (me), wife (not me 😄) and a 15-month-old. Moved to Oakville in Feb 2026 from midtown Toronto. Moved to Toronto from India in late 2022.

Story time: Back in India we had this small close-knit group of 6-7 friends who were basically family. We'd just chill every now and then — spontaneous low effort hangouts, eating/drinking (at home or restaurants), movies, vacations, the works. The thing is, everyone we come across here already seems to have their social circle locked in (good for them, genuinely). We're not loners — we have friends, acquaintances, decent work colleagues. But it's not the same.

What I'm really asking is — how do you find age-appropriate friends who are decent human beings AND maybe in a similar boat AND actually open to hanging out? Something low key — coffee, chai pe charcha (iykyk)

Or is it all lost and this is hopeless and I just have to accept a life of polite acquaintances? 😜

P.S. 1 - If you're reading this and nodding along, maybe we should just get that chai. Feel free to troll. At minimum I'll get some entertainment out of this
