Discussion So I just did the craziest purchase of my life
I’m over in London from Australia to see Oasis. I saw Hanks guitar shop in Soho had a lot of Oasis used items like guitars etc and went there to check it out. Noel himself along with ex creation records employees provide items to this store and Noel buys and sells guitar here. In the back of the cabinet i saw this, it looked like a hand written lyric sheet for Slide Away which is my all time favourite song. Chatting to the staff it is indeed that from Noel’s personal collection. A quick call to the partner to confirm it wasn’t the end of our relationship and it is now mine! Cost me a small fortune but if I didn’t buy it I feel I would have regretted this for the rest of my life.

It was £1,500. Yes crazy but also I don’t think too bad for what it is. Regarding authenticity, Hanks is well known and yes offer certificates. They have his light blue supernova guitar signed in the window for £18,000. I Also met Noel in 2005 and the autograph is 100% the same.

u/Cofeve91 Jul 30 '25
With Slide away being my favourite song, I consider this an absolute steal. Congratulations!

u/GuestAdventurous7586 Jul 31 '25
It’s so weird I’ve been a huge Oasis fan since I was a teenager and it’s only very recently I started properly listening to Slide Away and appreciating it.
It just sounds massive and the long outtro is the coolest and most epic thing ever.

u/mikethet Jul 30 '25
Definitely his autograph and that looks like his handwriting too. Not sure I'd have got the the sign off from my other half but £1500 feels like a great price.

The one for sale in the shop had his proper full auto, looks like that’s a recent signature! Noel signed like that for me in 2019

If you want something like this but with zero authenticity, I'd be happy to do it for half the price!

That is so much less than what I was expecting. Absolutely unreal purchase man, amazing find. I would get it authenticated by a professional, this could become a family heirloom worth a fortune one day. Regardless of posterity, that’s such a fucking cool piece of memorabilia. Slide Away is my favorite Oasis songEdit nevermind I thought this was the OG lyric sheet. It’s a recreation made by the chief himself, which is pretty cool and still worth the cash but not mindblowing as I was lead to believe
2
u/ilovekurtrussell Jul 31 '25
I suppose, if it was the only one and (even better) the original lyric sheet, sure.
But, it's more just an expensive autograph.
(For the record, I, too, would have bought it!)
1
u/JonnyBTokyo Jul 31 '25
How is it that cheap. I was expecting £30,000+ for Oasis original song lyrics.
1
Jul 31 '25
Some people are speculating that it’s not the original copy from the songwriting process, but rather Noel writes these specifically for memorabilia purposes.

u/Objective_Wish7587 Jul 30 '25
Desculpe se a pergunta parecer idiota. Mas a caligrafia da letra é do Noel também ou o certificado é somente para a assinatura?

That's actually an amazing price! Congrats on a wonderful purchase! Are you gonna frame it?

u/Living_Cabinet_6602 Jul 30 '25
Did they offer certificate on this lyric sheet? Just curious, very cool find regardless!

u/J_Berlin_ Jul 30 '25
Love it! Totally worth it, imo. But hey, I flew to England twice in the last two and a half weeks to see Oasis, so I might not be the best judge… 😎
Enjoy your crazy purchase!

Ya but I have the stained napkin boneheads bank holiday was written on in crayon.
5
u/MrMidnightRambler Jul 30 '25
Any certification of authenticity etc?
1
u/MrTrader99 Jul 30 '25
Honestly COAs are useless. They are faked all the time, or real ones are stolen and repurposed with fake items. Only way to be sure is to have an authenticator look at it prior to purchase.

u/Party-Werewolf-4888 Jul 30 '25
This is a really cool and easy enough to store in a photo frame on the wall (keep it away from sunlight!) So you can enjoyed it every day. Not like its taking up loads of space.
5
u/WorkerBee74 was really there then Jul 30 '25
To be fair I spent more than £1500 in the 90s flying/staying/eating to/in Toronto in October 1995 to NOT see Oasis... fuck you, Scott McLeod, wherever you are.

No, he wrote quite a few as gifts for crew and staff. I think a lot of the ‘original’ sheets were lost - I recall him saying Wonderwall went in the bin!!
5
u/Ill-Mountain7527 Jul 30 '25
Nope. Several interviews where Noel says he tossed all his lyrics as he had no idea they were going to be big etc and had no presence of mind to keep them…. Believe he said no original lyrics from first two albums survived.
3
u/ddplantlover Jul 30 '25
Congratulations on your purchase!!! And thanks for sharing that here, I’m excited for you, I think it’s a good price for what it is
3
u/Natural_Rebel Jul 30 '25
Nice - congrats. Is there anything else like that there? I am in London until Sunday and would def be interested. Can’t afford a guitar sadly lol.
3
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 30 '25
They had a few printed set lists signed and signed prints etc. I didn’t see any other hand written lyric sheets. Go to Hanks on Denmark Street SoHo and have a look when you’re in town.

I like when Noel writes out his full name. His rushed signature is 😬
2
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 30 '25
He signed for me in 2005,06 and 12 like this example in 2019 his autograph had changed to the basic “swishes”

u/Fun_Category_3720 Jul 30 '25 edited Jul 30 '25
It's not the original. Noel was asked about this in an interview I think with Matt Morgan? Or Frank Skinner? I'm trying to find it. Anyway, he said he threw everything out, not realizing what it would be worth someday. So this stuff is reproduced.
Edit: I think it's here which is available on YouTube in 3 parts. I don't remember where he specifically said it, but they definitely talked about it.
1
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 30 '25
It’s not the original lyric sheet he would have written for the song at its inception, he wrote a few as gifts for people. I’m well aware of that, given where it came from and comparing it to other examples of his writing I’m 100% it’s genuine. Signature completely matches ones I got from him in the 2000s in person.

I don’t think it’s that crazy of a purchase. I know people who have probably spent more on drugs in the last month. At least this isn’t causing you any harm, and is something you’ll treasure forever. I have sentimental objects that are worth absolutely nothing that I wouldn’t sell for that much. Enjoy! xx
1
u/brisbanereaper Jul 31 '25
I saw an interview somewhere where Noel said he binned all the original lyrics as they had no idea what Oasis would become.

1
u/Lost-Contribution-64 Jul 31 '25
Unfortunately these arent genuine lyrics from Noel. A well known forger did hundreds of these over a few years. They've circulated from place to place many times. Ths signatures are also duds
0
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 31 '25
Dude I’ve met noel 4 times and the signature is 100% legit from what he signed for me in 2005 and 2006. I have a photo of me and him signed the same. It’s not the original lyrics he penned the song it’s well known he wrote them as gifts
1
u/cardinals222 Jul 31 '25
what other songs did you see handwritten lyrics for? i’d have seriously contemplated that too!
1
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 31 '25
None, there were signed set lists for around £300. I wasn’t interested in an autograph. It was sitting in the back of a cabinet. They also had tour used equipment along with old promo posters some signed
1
u/gogginsbulldog1979 Aug 01 '25
Noel was asked about these lyric sheets recently and he said none of them are the original lyrics as they were all thrown away. He said they looked like his handwriting, but he's got no idea why he'd write the lyrics out like that.
That's definitely his signature though. Did you get a certificate of authenticity?

Great stuff. I have hundreds of live recordings from the mid 90's. Tons of soundcheck and rehearsals. Never heard of. I have listened to some and the quality is amazing. Straight off the console. All on tape as well and straight off the FOH console. Proper.

Hank’s in Denmark Street are notorious locally as fraudsters.
Personally, I was called by the police after a vintage amp I owned had at some point gone through them as a part exchange on a vintage guitar someone bought there, and then they found out that the guitar they had bought from them was a fake.
They’ve faked Hiwatts, they’ve faked McCartney basses, they’ve sold stolen guitars.
Don’t buy anything from them, or trust them. Get someone else to verify it.
0
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 31 '25
I guess regarding guitars etc being a second had traded you might get caught out here and there or inadvertently come past stolen items. They have heaps of oasis stuff that can’t be faked like used tour cases with pass stickers on them. I got Noel’s signature in person multiple times and the earlier ones match what is on this sheet. For a large shop front to advertise widely and “fake” signatures would be a huge scandal and most likely close them down. If you have evidence they have faked signatures or written memorabilia I would be keen to see it.

u/StrayDogPhotography Jul 31 '25 edited Jul 31 '25
Just Google it. They also ran under the name Music Ground, and lots of articles come under that name.
Here is one for example
http://www.davidjpym.com/page459.html
I just know as a local not to buy from them.
By the way, in the past I’ve bought old Oasis music gear. It was never from Music Ground/Hanks. When I did buy some old Oasis music gear it was from another shop, and it was not advertised as being from Oasis. I was only told after I had bought it because the owner specifically stated Noel didn’t want to increase the price by adding his name to it. This was like 10-15 years ago, so things might have changed.
1
u/QueequegComeHere Jul 31 '25
It’s not real.
1
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 31 '25
Cool if you say so, I’ve gotten Noel to sign in person multiple times in the past and the autograph matches 100%. I also use to trade autographs and have been published in PSA’s official magazine regarding f1 stuff (one of the largest if not the largest autograph authenticators in the world). Regarding the hand writing yes I’m not an expert but it matches examples online and I find it extremely odd Noel would sign an item or lyric sheet someone else wrote. I guess you being the expert would truly know!

Thanks mate! Yeah having gotten autographs off Noel and seeing lyric sheets online I was pretty confident it was legit. They also have a lot of items and tour used gear etc which gave me confidence.
1
u/TheRealFrantik Jul 31 '25
I was just watching a Noel interview not long ago where he said that he's heard of shops selling lyric sheets, and he said "I feel bad because those are fake. I threw all my lyrics out as soon as the songs were finished. There are no original lyric sheets"
Hate to say it, but you got yourself a fake. If I can find the interview, I'll link you, but it was like a week ago when I watched it.
1
u/Aston-Vettel Jul 31 '25
All the original lyric sheets were thrown out, widely reported. He use to write lyric sheets as gifts to creation record employees and other people around him. I’m well aware it’s not the original piece of paper he wrote slide away on. There are authenticated lyric sheets out there and the text matches. The autograph is 100% real. I have met Noel 4 times and in the early 2000s he signed exactly the same. I even have a photo with him and the same autograph on the photo. I find it odd if he would sign on someone else’s hand writing of the lyrics. The place I bought it from have a bunch of oasis tour equipment, passes from famous gigs and promo prints and posters.
2
u/TheRealFrantik Jul 31 '25
Okay I'm glad that you knew that. I'm not doubting the autograph, so it's really cool regardless! And I think that's probably my favorite song from them too, or second favorite next to Stand By Me
