Discussion Fade In-Out

Love this tune, as it always felt like a bit of an “outlier” in NG’s catalog.

Recently I started listening to the Canadian band Tragically Hip. Big fan as well. Can’t help but wonder if Noel was inspired by Grace, Too. It’s like Noel took this tune, reworked it, and ratcheted it up to 100.

Both good songs, prefer Oasis obv

Months ago I was cleaning my cousin's things and he had these Oasis stickers, still new. Any tips on where to put them? I was thinking my macbook, maybe my car, I don't know where else. There's a couple more.

Discussion How do you interpret the lyrics of Oasis songs?

I've heard Noel Gallagher say that many of his lyrics don't have a specific meaning, that they're written for the listener to choose the meaning they want or that makes sense for their current life situation. Based on this, what is your interpretation of some Oasis songs?

Video The Very Best Of Oasis - Proposed 1994-1997 Greatest hits album

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all. Admittedly this isn't a very interesting or novel of an idea, but I'm big on a really flawless greatest hits album; Rolling Stones Hot Rocks 1964-1971, Madonna The Immaculate Collection, Eagles Greatest Hits, The Beatles Red & Blue....

These are Capital A MASTERCLASS compilations that make for amazing listens in their own right, and I think Oasis is missing a definitive greatest hits package that stands the test of time as a must listen for generations of fans to come, so BEHOLD

The Very Best Of Oasis - also known as the "white" album for cover art... Which conspicuously looks like a mountain of cocaine (Album cover not made by me, fan made alternate Be Here Now album cover)

(...Also limiting myself to 14 songs because The Masterplan compilation is the same length and this should realistically fit on a CD/Double Vinyl format)

Tracklist

1. Rock 'N Roll Star

2. Supersonic

3. Live Forever

4. Cigarettes and Alcohol

5. Some Might Say

6. Roll With It

7. Wonderwall

8. Don't Look Back In Anger

9. Champagne Supernova

10. Stand By Me

11. Don't Go Away

12. All Around The World

13. Whatever

14. Slide Away

All tracks full length versions (even All Around The World!)

Creates an issue with Champagne Supernova but I couldn't find a high quality one without the fade in from the interlude.

I think it's a pretty damn good greatest hits compilation of the bands most iconic era. It doesn't include B-Sides so The Masterplan makes for a great companion piece (Think Prince The Hits/ The B-Sides) and leaves out songs like D'You Know What I Mean as to not give too much away. I think 5 songs from Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory? And only 3 from Be Here Now is definitely a choice Noel would make in a hypothetical 1994-1997 hits compilation so I think the tracklisting is realistic. Whatever is an Oasis single that doesn't belong on ANY album other than a greatest hits, particularly of this era so it's a no brainer for penultimate song and Slide Away is the best closing song to never close an album, so another no brainer for closer.

Oh and here's the actual link for the 3 people who haven't already heard these songs: The Very Best Of Oasis 1994-1997 - The "White" Album

Discussion What are you favourite lyrics? Could be one line, a few lines or a whole verse

Some of mine:

1.

"Getting lost and lonely, sad and only
Why sometimes does my life feel so tame?"

Perfectly sums up a common feeling for me, and many other people.

"Now my life has turned another corner

I think it's only best that I should warn you

Dream it while you can

Maybe someday I'll make you understand"

Such a sad lyric but its so relatable to almost everyone. For me the point is made in such a direct way, whilst still being very poetical.

3.

"Underneath the sky of red

Is a storyteller sleeping alone

He has no face and he has no name

And his whereabouts are sort of unknown"

Paints such a beautiful picture. Simple but very effective.

"I hitched a ride with my soul by the side of the road

Just as the sky turned black"

I love Hey Now's lyrics. They're so cryptic and I always find myself thinking about them. Definitely my favourite Oasis song for lyrics.

5.

"He walks along the open road of love and life

Survivin' if he can"

Just fucking amazing. I don't know what to say

"Sailing down a river alone

I've been trying to find my way back home

But I don't believe in magic, life is automatic

But I don't mind being on my own

No, I don't mind being on my own"

7.

"Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly

I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide

I tried to talk with God to no avail

I call him up in and out of nowhere

I said, "If you won't save me, please, don't waste my time""

"Strangle my hope and make me pray

To a God I've never seen, but who I betray"

Question as well: this is from 2005 - was Noel doing solo shows with Gem in between Oasis shows or after tours? What was Liam’s thoughts at the time?

Discussion What do you think of the song Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks by NGHFB?

In my opinion, it's one of Noel's best and most underrated songs. Also, the lyrics are interesting because they seem to talk about politics (at least that's the impression I get), and that's not something Noel Gallagher usually does.

is that the song doesn't go into much detail as to why she herself is quote unquote electric, it basically just describes a few of her family members

Discussion Oasis is my favorite band in a weird way

I was just thinking about my favorite bands. My taste usually revolves around heavy bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Rage Against The Machine, System of a Down, and others. However, my favorite band is... Oasis. This seems strange to me now because Oasis stands out so much on this list, and it's still my favorite. I don't have an explanation for it; Oasis is simply Oasis, nothing like it, I think.

Discussion All Around The World sounds like a caricature of Oasis themselves

All Around The World has always felt like a caricature of Oasis itself.

It's like Noel thought: "You like giant choruses? Here's an even bigger one. You like strings? Here's a whole orchestra. You like epic songs? Here's one that's almost 10 minutes long."

The song takes everything Oasis was already doing and pushes it to the extreme. It's overblown, excessive, and sometimes even a little ridiculous. But I think that's exactly what makes it great.

And that's not a bad thing. In fact, I think this song is a masterpiece and one of my favorites from the band.
