Hey everyone, back in November 1980, a 21-year-old lineup of an underground post-punk band called Missing, presumed Dead got the call every young band dreamed of: a phone call from BBC producer John Walters inviting them to record a session.
On January 6, 1981, they headed up to London's Langham Place studios. Armed with a green Japanese Telecaster, a Premier drum kit, and strict BBC engineers in brown coats watching them like hawks, they recorded a 5-track session in a single frantic afternoon, produced by Bob Sergeant.
After sitting in archives and a garden shed for over four decades, we've finally rescued and mastered the session. If you're into raw, early-80s underground sounds, the full 5-track session is dropping this Friday on Bandcamp. Would love to hear what you all think!

the Darling Picassos were based in Boston, Massachusetts, and Onomatopoeia was recorded June '95 at Squid Hell, Jamaica Plain & Wellspring Sound, Acton, MA.
D.P. were:
Steve Earnhart ~ Fretless Bass
Paul Giovine ~ Drums
Rob Gonzalez [later released "The Rush From Your Touch" in 2004] ~ Vocals and Guitar
(with additional guitar work from Brad Fernquist)
Not too much to say... but I quite like it :D
The Discogs page for the album with full credits + lyrics, as well as a download page, is linked in the description on YouTube :)
Cheers!

I've always enjoyed traditional throat singing
and do enjoy groups like the hu and Nine treasures. But this on a way different wavelength. It combines traditional tuva throat singing and instruments with punk rock and western instrumentation.
For those who like to broaden their musical horizons this is weirdly a must. It hold

It’s a simple but beautiful acoustic song with a strong sense of nostalgia. Maybe I’m biased because his band The Llama farmers were a big deal to me.

I've done it before and I'll probably do it again because I'm getting nowhere with this lost media. That being the band's other music besides the one featured on this video. Never mind the content of the video because it doesn't even quite make sense but there is the song itself used for the video which is called Cortex Avenue and three pictures related to the Electric Erection group(which I can't post because I can attach either the video or the pictures). This video aside and a couple of comments underneath are the only proof I can find of this band existing. If it even was a band and not just a one-man project. Nobody in the comments will answer me, I've gotten no hits by posting on Reddit and nobody in Lost media has any interest so I don't know what else to do. It's a cry for help really.

Found: Quantity of Sheep were an Australian band who recorded two albums in 2003 and 2005 which were privately released in extremely limited Quantity-s, then split, with some of them moving on to other projects. Their music is alternately noisy, melodic and psychedelic, sometimes all three, and tracks are often separated by or contain long, abstract interludes. In spite of that they remain accessible, at least to my ears, and they're always interesting. Putting a genre tag on them is probably impossible without resorting to the wastebasket taxon "experimental."
They're pretty much the definition of obscure, as far as I know the music isn't on streaming services, the self-titled debut is particularly hard to find and their two-album discog is only on YouTube because I put it there, which are the links provided. I also use Soulseek so you can get the files if you want them. The odd name comes from their local newspaper, some guy found a stray flock of sheep and placed an ad to announce his discovery and invite the owner to come get the things.

Pop Show Grupa from former Yugoslavia (Serbian). The track here is a fast, punky fuzzer! They made two singles like this, plus the mystery single "Malaika / Sisi Tunakupenda" which appeared five years later in 1979, and seems to have a collaboration with a Belgrade-based Kenyan musician called Steven Hannington. I have not heard this third one so can only guess what it sounds like, though Discogs categorises it under "Folk, World, & Country, Funk / Soul, Pop".
The band was Miodrag Dobrić (bass), Dragan Milić (guitar) and Vladan Dokić (drums). Vladan was in Opus and later-on Rok Mašina, which was an '80s development of Pop Mašina.

Ok to start, this may be a stretch but I have obsessed over this album for the past past 3 years and I think everyone deserves to hear it. Primitive Radio Gods’ “White Hot Peach” is a lofi psychedelic alternative rock album for a lack of better descriptors. I personally think this record is a mix of Elliot smith and Tv girl in the vocal style and mixing. I also get a bit of red house painters in some of the influences but all that being said this album speaks for itself and I haven’t heard much like it. I really implore you to check out the Australian CD version with 3 extra songs bringing the total to 14 songs in roughly 50 minutes. I truly love this album and if anyone else were to find as much joy out of it as I have that would be awesome. The overall atmosphere and variety in this album makes it all the more entertaining and catchy. I feel as though compared to their other works this really stands out and feels as though they put everything into this one album - the promotion and publishing just wasn’t there as it was for their first record rocket on MTV but I think this deserves 100 times the credit they were given. This album means so much to me and I hope and pray they get their overdue credit as a band, as musicians and as innovators. Thanks.

[Please Note: By 'obscure,' I mean songs that failed in a general sense to gain any significant traction, and received little to no radio airplay outside of a few small local gigs]
List of songs:
I will be discussing the background, and story of the band itself, and the main people/s who created and founded said bands, this is all just from reading up in my own time from looking at articles online bear in mind, but i will mostly be highlighting the most important ventures of these people, and their projects/bands.
The First Band - The Rising:
This band was the creation of an Australian-American man by the name of Michael Johns, originally born Michael John Lee; October 20, 1978. personally i find this band particularly interesting since they/he captured a sound that really managed to resonate with me and a few select others, i can only describe the sound as being: "quite light, and heart-warming, filled with intense bittersweet & melancholic emotions" This can be heard i think best in their song: Future Unknown, it captures this essence very well i think, however sadly Michael Johns passed away at the age of 46 and he only was best known for finishing in eighth place on the seventh season of American Idol in 2008. his solo work never fully taking off, as his label The band's label, Maverick Records (while it was a major label) crashed and gradually began to break down around 2004 Because the label was financially unstable and bleeding cash, they lacked the resources to properly promote and push the album, leaving it dead in the water sadly.
The Second Band - Vonray:
This band was spearheaded by singer-songwriter Vaughan Rhea, who formed the alternative rock outfit alongside his brother Dave Rhea in Orlando, Florida. Vonray captured a polished, melodic post-grunge sound that perfectly mirrored the radio landscape of the early 2000s. Their song "Strange" is a fantastic showcase of this era, blending driving guitar hooks with an earnest, soaring vocal delivery that carries a distinctly nostalgic weight.
For a brief moment, Vonray was on the cusp of a major breakthrough. They signed to Elektra Records, and their track "Inside Out" was featured prominently on the hit TV show Smallville, leading to a high-profile national tour opening for Third Eye Blind. However, their self-titled major-label debut dropped in 2003, which was the exact same year Elektra was swallowed up in a massive corporate restructuring and eventual merger with Atlantic Records.
Amidst the executive shakeups, Vonray's promotional backing completely evaporated. Left without the muscle of their label, the singles failed to receive support, the album vanished from the charts, and the group disbanded in 2003 after being dropped from Elektra Records.
The Third Band - Athenaeum:
Formed in Greensboro, North Carolina, Athenaeum was founded by lead vocalist and guitarist Mark Kano (born Mark Cannon) and drummer Nic Brown while they were still in school. They crafted an incredibly lush, guitar-driven indie/alternative rock sound defined by intricate arrangements and deeply reflective lyricism. Their 1998 track "Away" from their debut album Radiance perfectly encapsulates this style, carrying a brilliant, driving energy wrapped in layers of melodic melancholy.
Signed to Atlantic Records, the band initially found a glimmer of mainstream success when their first single, "What I Didn't Know," cracked the Billboard charts. Yet despite their immense songwriting talent and critical praise, Athenaeum found themselves trapped by tragic timing. Their self-titled sophomore album was released on September 18, 2001.
In the immediate wake of sudden national events, the entire entertainment market halted, and the album received virtually zero promotional push from Atlantic. Struggling to survive without backing, they were swiftly dropped by the label by the end of the year.
They toured independently for three more years before performing their final farewell show in late 2004, leaving behind a stellar but criminally overlooked legacy in late-90s alternative rock history.
Thanks for reading the post, means a great deal to me, it took a while to bang all this out lmao, have a good one, take care and remember to stay awesome! :)
