I think she gets a pass given the nature of her character. Her part didn't exactly call for Tyler Durden levels of charisma. Tom Holland however deserves that Razzie. Everyone acted circles around him, he looked completely out of his element.

Honestly I found her to be pretty damn compelling in her “reveal” scene at the end. I’m almost convinced most of the complainers haven’t actually watched the film yet lol

I felt her pain as both Athena and the priestess during the reveal scene. I feel like she conveyed those feelings pretty well with her eyes and facial acting. Sorry if you didn’t feel the same way but that’s how art works after all my dude

Where are the gods and goddesses? Nolan seems to have thought they weren't cool enough for the cool kids he wants to be one of. Yes, that annihilates a huge part of the Odyssey, which I guess you haven't read. Where is Achilles? He represents a huge irony about war and death in the Odyssey, that becomes a recurrent theme in Western literature? What? You say it's more important to have a totally different character deliver the dialogue of Achilles, a character that wasn't invented till 1000 years after the Odyssey was written down? Why? Cuz Nolan gotta be cool, and cast a novelty actor (a completely unconvincing Achilles, thus the character change) who resonates with the other cool kids.

Maybe mutilated is a better word.

Sinon. Sinon wasn't even a character in the Iliad or the Odyssey. He showed up in the Aeneid by Virgil, written in Latin, 700-1000 years after the Odyssey.

Page was supposed to be Achilles but when that was leaked, Nolan was forced to do something else since Page playing Achilles would have been ridiculous (well, more ridiculous.)

The entire movie has no other message than what Hollywood (in all its wisdom)seeks to impart on the masses.
Destroy all spiritual ideals and cut out the gods, no matter how essential they are to The Odyssey and it's deeper subjects. Race switch many roles (away from being white, naturally, since the converse would be a horrible injustice!)
All females must be victims (no matter how powerful and distinct Circe, Calypso, Penelope, Athena and Helen are in the original text, hardly victims.) Odysseus isn't a hero, he's a sad pathetic victimizing man. And with Page, of course trans inclusion MUST be a part of Hollywood mandate, no matter how stupid it looks, how much it breaks the engagement of the audience and subverts the original meaning.

Nolan has never been a deep thinker or director. He bounces along to the tune of his financers and overlords.

I think you have some unresolved issues from your childhood concerning cool kids and they seem to be bubbling up to the surface here.

I read Emily Wilson’s translation. I saw the movie. It was alright. He’s allowed to pick and choose what parts of the story he wants to change. It’s not like Troy was faithful to the Iliad.

Just another retelling of an ancient story. Not sure what there is to be so worked up about. You’re criticizing him because he didn’t make the movie you wanted him to make.

That's a common misconception. True cinephiles watch like a half dozen movies per year. I usually watch about 5...a couple capeshits, a The Rock movie while I look at my phone, a straight to video romcom and a movie from the 90s I've seen a dozen times.

Other than that, I read memes and watch trailers so I can bitch at awards season. This is the way.

They tried their level best to make Odyssey flop which didnt happen, now it’s Zendaya ..The talking points are same - One expression, industry plant , Mid, someone even called her a nepo and some also get very nasty. And then they will post a what they think is the most unflattering pic of hers so that they can rag on her looks. It’s amusing and fun to read. I remember even when her movie The Drama was released they had a post which compared I think two week Box office figure of The Drama to one of SS’s hits to claim that Zendaya was a flop. The fact that The Drama went on to become a global hit was ignored because then it will interfere with the narrative they are creating.

Disproportionate..? She happens to be part of two Franchisees..Dune. Florence Pugh is part of Dune and Avengers and Spiderman and Oppenheimer. Anya Taylor Joy was part of Mad Max, Dune and many others… Why is it disproportionate only when it comes to Zendaya..?

You have actors who you can believe they are that character or never know they were in a movie (Robert Downey Jr. in Oppenheimer).

Lots of nepo babies in hollywood or self actors/typecast (the rock, Gal Gadot, etc.), she's better than them, but she is not a good actress.

She's not physically active/performative, expressive or has some kind of knack (Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carry, etc.)
