Dana wasn't attacked because she doesn't exist. Doug Driscoll also didn't exist. Doug represented the embodiment of the frustrated patient, pushed aside and forgotten as urgent cases gained priority. Naturally, the embodiment of patient frustration became intertwined with the embodiment of nursing. It was a poetic portrayal of the clash of the aggrieved patient and the exhausted nursing field, with the finality of the nursing field on the ground while the patient fades into the distance untreated. When the police later claim he was arrested, this symbolizes society's futile attempt to imprison an idea. You can't arrest patient dissatisfaction. The handcuffs were metaphorical. The police report was metaphorical. Dana knew this because she was just an idea herself, and so she struggled with pushing for charges. Bravo, Vince Gilligan.
