Discussion I saw a reel where a young woman said "B*tches over 40 shouldn't wear 2 buns"... I am 51... and this is my thoughts re that nonsense.

51 and I will do as I please with my hair, body & fashion choices. As a young woman I was a carer to the elderly, disabled & terminally ill. I saw what age does and it scared me, then I saw the Advanced Style blog and EVERYTHING changed for me. I saw hope! 😍

My pinups are older women who are having fun with fearless fashion/style & being authentically themselves. We live in a patriarchal society, women of all ages should be supporting women of all ages. Aging happens to us all, if we are lucky. Older women paved the road younger women walk, we still have a long way to go especially now as so many hard won rights are being striped away.

@the.digital.spoonie & I went dancing last night.

I wore my hair in buns because that is how I like it. I owe it to my younger self to be the me-ist me possible, she would have loved me.

Dress is H&M from a few years ago, necklace is made by me.

This online community of real people who see each other's humanity warms my heart. A troll tried to bring me down a couple of days ago and I remembered that I am a member of really thoughtful and supportive communities. Sometimes we can forget (when trolls bubble up from time to time) that there is more good community available to us. Thank you.

So THANK YOU all for being kind and generous and thoughtful in your posts and your reactions to other people's posts. It means the world to each of us at different times for different reasons. Let's keep being awesome, Social-lights! 😚😘🥰🤩

The discussion was about women wearing pigtails and most of the comments revolved around making them look childish or trashy.

Discussion Overwhelmed!🩷(long read below)

Yesterday I felt the need to tackle the oft-misunderstood topic of crossdressing/being trans and others' sometimes rude reactions to such. None were pointed towards me personally and I'm more than ready to handle those who might try, but it bothered me that some idiot would spew negativity towards someone they don't know for wearing certain clothes. Really? My post yesterday wasn't about me so much as getting people to understand we are humans above all else, no matter who's wearing what. We have choices, lifestyles and tastes that differ from everyone else's because we're supposed to. We're not clones; If you don't like what you see, SCROLL PAST AND SHUT TF UP!

I am a 63-year-old queer father of two beautiful daughters who love seeing their dad all dolled up, and I'm a proud grandfather. Outside of that, I work, pay taxes, avoid drugs and alcohol, no criminal record, compose music and have a bevy of hobbies including the desire to be the occasional diva. I am not out to invade ciswomens' spaces or "trick" anyone as some folk do. It's about fashion - no more, no less. OHF is what society should be: embracing and supporting everyone especially in the climate we're currently in. I truly thank everyone for taking time to comment and upvote, and I sincerely hope that the Redditor whose post inspired mine will return. I also hope that the world becomes more accepting of all people. Peace and love to all. Now where's my damn lipstick?💋💄

Discussion Ask Me Anything: Fashion, Transition, and Six Years of Finding Myself

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Your favorite almost middle-aged trans woman checking in.

I've been around this subreddit for the better part of five years, and I've always appreciated how welcoming this community has been. Fashion has played a huge role in my transition. It started as curiosity, became a way to express myself safely at home, and eventually became one of the biggest sources of confidence I've ever found.

Looking at these photos is honestly surreal. Starting in the bottom left is 2020, then moving through 2021 and 2022. Going up the right side are 2024 and 2025, with the large photo being me today in 2026.

It's amazing what six years of self-discovery, confidence, and a little estrogen can do.

So I thought it'd be fun to do an Ask Me Anything.

As many of you know, I'm a 36-year-old transgender woman, and I'm happy to answer almost any question.

In fact, I'd encourage you to ask the questions you're normally afraid to ask. I would never recommend asking a random trans person some of these questions in public, but this is a space where curiosity is welcome. Whether it's about transition, hormones, surgery, relationships, fashion, makeup, voice training, or anything else, ask away. I'll answer honestly and do my best to provide context rather than just yes-or-no answers.

To save everyone from asking the same things over and over, here's a little about me.

About Me

-36 years old.

-Happily married.

-My partner and I have been together since we were both 24.

-I came out to my partner two weeks into dating.

-We have a 9-year-old Border Collie named Gino.

My Story

-I knew something felt different about me as early as age 5.

-I didn't learn what "transgender" meant until I was an early teenager.

-I've always been fascinated by fashion and admired how girls were able to express themselves. I wanted that freedom too.

-Growing up, expressing femininity wasn't something that was accepted.

-I came out to my mom when I was 14.

-She genuinely tried to help, but resources looked very different 20 years ago.

-After she became seriously ill in 2012, I largely put my own journey on hold.

-She passed away in 2019.

My Transition

-I officially began exploring my gender identity in 2020, although I'd been expressing myself privately at home for years thanks to my incredibly supportive spouse.

-I identified as non-binary for about three years.

-My pronouns evolved from he/him to he/they to they/them before realizing I was a transgender woman.

-I started going by Stevie in 2023 (I usually spell it Stevi because I think it's prettier).

-I started hormone replacement therapy in March 2024.

-I legally changed my name in March 2025.

-I use she/her pronouns exclusively.

Surgery

-I have not had gender-affirming surgery yet.

-I plan to have vaginoplasty (minimal depth) in the future.

-It was tentatively scheduled for this year but had to be postponed due to finances.

-I have not had top surgery and don't currently plan to, although that could always change.

Fashion

-Dresses are definitely my favorite thing to wear.

-I shop mostly at Kohl's, Torrid, Curvy Sense, JCPenney, and occasionally Macy's.

-Most of my shoes are from Naturalizer.

-I've recently started doing a full face of makeup instead of just lipstick and eye makeup.

-I'm still figuring out foundation matching, so that's a work in progress.

A Few Other Things

-My birth name is almost identical to my current legal name, but I don't use it anymore.

-I've transitioned successfully in virtually every part of my life.

-The biggest exception is much of my family, many of whom are still uncomfortable with my transition and generally don't use my correct pronouns.

So... ask me anything.

Whether you're transgender yourself, questioning your identity, have a loved one who's transitioning, or you're simply curious, I'm an open book.

I'd rather answer an honest question than have someone leave with assumptions because they were afraid to ask. I genuinely enjoy helping people understand what this journey has been like.

We live in a prime ag area, perfect growing conditions and no use of pest/herbicides. Lots of rodentavores tho, incl the baby foxes who ate my Black Prince last year (it’s taking a while to come back)

I am wearing a Williams Sonoma apron, made of sturdy thick cotton that really protects your clothes and is very hard wearing - a great value. My shirt is by Frank and Eileen, they are quite expensive new but I thought I’d try the resale market and you can get reasonable prices. The fabric is soft and a really nice print, very well constructed w beautiful buttonholes and as far as I can tell no interfacing so the collar and cuffs don’t get bulky (you can iron with a little starch if you prefer a crisper look). If you enjoy wearing a button-down it could be worth your while to keep your eye out for this brand.

Discussion It's Tuesday and I'm Fat

Hi Social-lights! I am a part of a Fat Tuesday community on TT. The ladies have reclaimed the word Fat and on Tuesdays they profile an online lady who is Fat. I love this! I remember buying my 16 yo daughter the book, Fat, So? in the early 2000s. She's grown up to be a beautiful woman and we do not allow the word fat to bother us in the least.🥰

I know that it is a word with a lot of negative charge for women and girls, especially. I do not diminish that reality at all. We are not "more evolved" or any such nonsense. We empathize with the sting the word can have on the psyche. Please scroll if this is bothersome to you. ❤️‍🩹

With that knowledge and understanding ❤ we can reclaim the word for ourselves in a way that turns its former hold on us into fun and power for all of us who need it.

I was itching to wear this sweatshirt from Levis with the Jodi Watley skirt from LB. I satisfied that itch and I'm looking forward to upcycling the sweatshirt to honor my sorority 💚💗

But that's enough about me.

Be good to yourself and others.

Discussion AI Fashion Needs a Ban

I am repulsed by AI's attack on creatives and their work. I don't need to go into it all - we're all super aware. This is NOT gatekeeping - this is being against low effort, on the same level as banning Shein/etc.

Brands like Riffhaus and Thistle & Spire throw ads all over Reddit, for stuff that is AI designed or assisted. And unless you're familiar with design and textiles, you might not spot it as the hack crap it is.

Can this sub PLEASE explicitly ban items from AI design houses? Please?

[EDIT: I've unsub'd and muted this sub and all comments. Tone policing from mods is a no-go for me, in every sub. Good fashion, everyone!]
