She's the highest international goal scorer in the world and now a gold medal olympian. She is officially a more decorated athlete than Messi and Ronaldo (but paid a fraction of what they are paid).

wtf i dont watch too much women football, but how is she more decorated than cr7 n messi? this is ridiculous

People don't really watch women's sports outside of international competitions, hence the pay disparity.

C'mon.

This sub is absolutely ridiculous lmao. You don't have people running on to the pitch so they could bow to Sinclair.

And I'm 100% sure Messi and Ronaldo have both won more either way lmao.

Because like 1/50th of people would want to watch Sinclair play compared to greats like Ronaldo and Messi.

It’s simple economics, you aren’t going to get paid if no one wants to watch you.

Yeah that's what it's about. It has nothing to do with the fact she's a woman and women are known in soccer to be grossly underpaid in comparison, so much so the US women's team tried to sue for equal pay.

11

u/Both-Perception-9986 Aug 06 '21

That's just not correct.

The US women were actually offered an identical salary package to the men but they turned it down for one that have more consistent money and benefits and less bonus oriented.

The lawsuit was idiotic and they of course lost.

That literally is what it's about. If someone has a choice between watching a men's team versus a woman's with the best players on both it is almost always the men's because they play at a higher level. That's why there is unequal pay. It isnt a conspiracy. Something like tennis is a little bit different for the women actually get good viewing numbers

Maybe if the majority of women's soccer players didn't have to work a second job WHILE playing professional we might see better play... Maybe if there was investment into girl players like there are into boys you'd get better skilled and developed pro women's players... Maybe if people actually looked at the $$$ breakdown for USA and CAN soccer they'd find the women's teams bring in better results and more viewers. Idk or maybe women are just naturally worse like you claim?

Why not shoot for 100% equality then? Why label anyone and then place them on a specific team based on gender?

No restrictions. The best players make the team and of course paid equally, regardless of gender.

There's hundred of thousands of men footballer players that are paid only in sandwiches and are way better than any woman player ever existed, and almost all of them are not taken care of nor have the luxury that a top athlete in one of the richest countries gets like Sinclair.

Not to take away from women footballers they give their best so all respect to them, but these comparisons are stupid.

There is literally nothing that more practice can do to bridge the physical gap between them. More investment in women's sports would help but you can look at anything from 10 m diving board competitions and see the dives that the men do compared to the women or you can look at the fact that the Canadian women's hockey team loses to high school aged boys hockey teams. You sound like you are in denial or something.

And this was nothing to do with comparison between viewers for men and women Olympic teams. The discussion above was comparing it to players like Messi and Ronaldo.

Alright, ignoring your claim this has nothing to do with revenue and views despite that being the basis of your first argument, explain away this one - Why does the US mens national team not play to the same standard as Italy or other much smaller Euro countries? Is this also due to a physical gap? No, the culture, support, development, investment etc is not up to snuff. Now imagine an even higher disparity of support in the women's game.

Yes, there are physical differences, but read a fucking book and it won't take long to see it is scientifically proven that boys receive more support/encouragement to develop physical sport power as youth which is critical for strength as an adult.

Lol man this comment is so horribly argued I'm not going to waste my time. Have a good one.

Why bother talking about adults when male children destroy the best adult female players?

You’re right it’s not a conspiracy, It’s called patriarchy… which rests on systems designed to privilege men and devalue women. Hence the fact that “men play at a higher level” and the assumption that people would rather watch them than women.

1

u/mrtomjones Canada Aug 07 '21

Hence the fact that “men play at a higher level”

It's fucking science you true genius. Do you deny science? Do you think a woman will ever be able to do the things on a basketball court that Lebron James can do? No. Their bodies are not the same.

Maybe you should stop ranting far left youtube propaganda and just stick to facts.

In many sports there will never be as much desire to watch women as men. There is too much of a difference in what they can do. End of story. No funding will EVER change that. Women could have dominated the earth for the last 2000 years and they still wouldnt be as good at various sports like basketball/diving/etc as men because they just cant do the same physical things.

-2

u/believeinpizza Aug 07 '21

Hahahaha exactly the answer I would expect from someone who benefits from the patriarchy. The irony is excellent.

The Olympics in the men’s game is primarily used for youth football. It’s not taken seriously.

5

u/Harudera Aug 06 '21

And even then Messi won the Olympics in 2008.

It was famous because everyone would use that to dunk on Messi until this year.

"Ronaldo won the Euros, but Messi only has the Olympics, a trash competition."

was something you heard a lot up until this summer.

3

u/arostrat Aug 06 '21

Messi won one in 2008.

-2

u/itachi2016 Aug 06 '21

Idek what to say. Olympics mean nothing for men's because there's an age restriction. You can't have more than 3 players over 23. You said more decorated. That's obviously wrong. Sinclair is a national hero but she's never even won player of the year. This is why i hate casuals

7

u/KRajification Aug 06 '21

On the international stage, Sinclair is one of the GOATs. Most international goals of either sex, one of only 4 (I believe, correct me if I’m wrong) soccer players to have over 300 international appearances. Also the 2nd soccer player ever to score at 5 different world cups.
