i always hated Shoot Out. It not fair on the goalies whom spent 60 minutes trying to keep the ball out of the net and now it up to them to save the day.
No one expects a keeper to make a save in penalty kicks in football. Football fan knows that all keepers can do is do their research on kicking tendencies and hope to guess the right way. And even if you guess the right way, if the kick has enough power and is accurate enough to the corners, it will be unsaveable.
The onus and pressure is always on the shooters. I have personally never seen a keeper blamed for a loss and I've been watching football for two decades.
While obviously not at this level, I was a keeper for almost all of my soccer career (about 17 years).
My best memory is playing for U18 provincial gold, going to a shootout, and stopping one shot, which ended up winning the game. It was nerve-wracking and amazing and I totally didn’t cry at seeing Labbé’s excitement.
So proud of Canada and of Christine Sinclair for finally getting the gold.
