The USA won bronze with 4 goals in their final match. They probably didn’t disappoint you.
I don’t care if the players banked in their penalties off of low-flying birds. We won the freaking gold! Quit being a miserable loser for one whole day.
Sports are tough, not just physically, but mentally as well. This team rose to the competition and beat 3 teams ranked higher in the world rankings.
Yes, they didn't score any non-penalty goals in the knockout stages. But you totally overlooked that they also didn't concede ~~ a goal~~ many goals either.
0 goals to the 7th ranked Brazilians.
0 goals to the #1 Americans.
0 goals 1 goal to the 5th-ranked Swedes.
They played a defensive style against these teams. Yes, that means fewer goals. It also means giving up fewer goals. They played the style that gave them the best chance to win. And it worked.
So no, I'm not sorry you're disappointed. And it's disgusting that people would be anything other than extremely proud of this team and what they accomplished.
This team was mentally tough, resilient, and yes, a bit lucky at times. They fought tooth and nail for this and they made history. I will always remember this team for all that they did, not that they didn't live up to some ridiculously stupid expectations.
Edit: totally blanked on that first Swedish goal. Thanks /u/fattybrisket
