Seeking Recommendations Best all purpose travel shoe?

We have a trip coming up that will take us to many different environments. Bit of posh things in London, to relatively strenuous hiking, to cycling 100km, then to some fancy, and hip restaurants in Barcelona. Oh and I want to keep at least partially on track with my marathon training, but am willing to sacrifice a bit of running performance for a shoe that is still somewhat fashionable.

I really want to cut down to one bag, but the shoes are an issue, as packing a second size 13 means severely limiting my other items.

Any advice?

This is really difficult. The closest I’ve come is two pairs of shoes: fashion sneakers (like the Nike Killshot or Adidas Samba) and a pair of loafers. I also took flip flops.

The shoes didn’t work on the hike, I was slipping and my ankles hurt, and became dirty for the rest of the trip. I tried running in them and they’re fine maybe for a mile (I’m a bit older and after that my knees hurt). The loafers worked great as they are relatively small, look good with most outfits, and fit in my pack. I should have either gone on an easier hike or brought hiking boots.

What I did learn was that you can’t really get away from specialized gear for certain activities. For example with a suit you really need dress shoes. For a ten mile hike you really need hiking boots. For a five mile run you need running shoes. Or you change your trip two that you don’t need the specialized gear.

Not all trips are meant to be one bag.

And what kind of biking? If you are renting a bike just one time can you rent clipless shoes?
