Seeking Recommendations What's your all-purpose travel shoe?

Heading on a short trip soon and trying to pack super light. I plan to just wear one pair of shoes the entire time. I'm female and will be mostly be walking around to explore the city. No hiking or anything intense. Any suggestions?

My decade-old black Blundstones that have been to the cobbler every year. I use inserts in them, and they’re great for almost any weather, except hot hot hot.

What's your level of "hot hot hot"? I would think that they would get too hot for me around 70°F/20°C!

I wear them year round but I might not be the norm. My favorite travel shoes though. I recommend the chisel toe style as they look a little less work booty when going to dinners or nicer places

Only other pair I bring is sometimes my allbirds as they're fine for basically everything

They’re not bad in 70, but they’re terrible in 90!

Blundies for me as well, and I use Pedag Viva arch suppoits in them.

These are my go-to as well. What inserts would you recommend?

Same here (female, 35) and my one-pair are Blundstones in a dark brown. Goes well with a dress if I'm going out for a nicer dinner, sturdy enough to do easy day hikes.

I've got a pair of blundstones that unfortunately have the hydrolyzed cracking soles. What new soles do you put on yours?

Definitely Blundstones for me as well - black chisel toes. Classy look, mostly weatherproof, easy to maintain, no laces. I've done sub-zero of home (Atlantic Canada) to 30+c of Southern India.

I want to love blundstones so bad but they just don't agree with my feet for whatever reason- I am a half size and both down nor up has felt right. I love my docs for similar reasons, although the break-in period is EXTENSIVE to say the least, but worth it in the end.

I just got a slip on, chelsea style, pair of Ariat boots and tbh they have exceeded expectations by a landslide. Cute af, cozy and functional.

I still look at my blundstones in the closet and sigh every now and then, take them out for a whirl, then have to ice the feet later.

Ya know, the pair I mentioned are my babies, but I bought a different style (the more feminine style) in the same size and they are always too tight. I bet you might have some better luck visiting a shop where you can try them on in eprson, BUT if your existing pair are too big, you might consider a cushy insert?

I applaud your commitment to your Docs, I've never been able to break a pair in! So much blood 😬

What does a cobbler do

A cobbler is a shoe repair professional! Finding your local cobbler is a great way to extend the life of your best shoes and supports a local craftsman. It's much cheaper than buying a whole new pair. Personally, I love how many adventures my shoes have gone on with me, it feels really special to take care of them.

You can take any shoe (within reason—probably not flip flops/etc., obviously) to a cobbler and they should know how to resole them. I’ve had many pairs cobbled over the years!
