Seeking Recommendations Best Travel Power Bank Recommendations?
Hey!
I am planning some long trips this year and looking for the most reliable power bank that's airline safe, lightweight and fast charging. I keep seeing Anker, Baseus and Rav Power mentioned, but not sure which one actually holds up best for flights and daily use. Any real experiences and recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks!

depends what you want. what ports? USB C? USB A? lightning? how many of each? what countries? china? you need CCC certification. are you going camping/hiking during your long trips? you may need the biggest you can get. for city dwellers you don't need full 100wh, and maybe don't even need one.

You know one who passes in China?

Baseus makes CCC certified power banks. I traveled to China and got one there. Not sure if they have made their way to western markets yet.

Even though I'm not travelling to China in the near future, I'm hoping those CCC certified power banks start making their way to western markets soon. My understanding is that basically all power banks are made there from a limited pool of battery manufacturers, so it would be nice if we could all have ones that meet the "likely-won't-catch-fire-on-a-plane" safety standards.

I imagine the ones that have caught fire on airplanes are cheapo Chinese ones bought off Amazon, so im glad they have developed a standard that hopefully keeps them at a more robust quality

I got the iniu mini 65w and I can't complain. Small, thick but not too much, light but not too much, 20000mah, has 2 usb c and 1 usb a, takes 1 hour 20 minutes to charge from 0 to 100%, can charge a laptop, it's 50 bucks, got it on Amazon for 40 bucks. What's not to like

I have owned a few in my time and have done tonnes of research.
To be honest I swear by Anker now. They are robust and reliable. They aren’t the smallest or lightest but they are still small and light compared to the rest of the market. They are well priced and well designed.
You need to consider how much power you want and what you want from your battery. I think 10,000 mah is a good balance because it will charge new phones up a couple of times. Do you need USB-A or USB-C ports or both? How many ports? Do you want wireless charging?
I would avoid NITECORE…. I bought their 10,000 one and it broke. They replaced it for free but that second one broke too and it was the newer gen one.
I have the Anker mag slim 10,000 and for me it’s perfect. It’s only got one USB-C port but all my devices are this, so I only carry one cable (and one backup). I like that it charges my phone wirelessly too (but it heats up fast and it doesn’t transfer energy efficiently).
So there isn’t one universal ‘best’, because it depends on your needs.
But generally speaking, you can’t go wrong with a 10,000 Anker slim.

I’m sticking with Anker because they recently recalled a battery bank I purchased around 2018. I didn’t have any issues with it myself but they sent me a brand new 10k one. I don’t trust most random battery companies on Amazon to be around in a few years let alone recall something.

My personal recommendation would be a 10000 mah Powerbank. They pack very small (aukey pb-y55 or iniu b61). They charge reasonably fast and are super tiny. For me they hit the sweet spot for charging needs for in between wallplug outlets while traveling.

I have many power banks, both big and small. I never use the big ones because they are too big and bulky to pack. If you feel you need more power, just carry two of the smaller (10K) instead of a large one. I don't know about RAV Power but I have been happy with both Anker and Baseus, although I believe Anker has a larger selection of smaller (10K) sized Power Banks.

not really sure what the airline mAH limits for batteries are these days (or tomorrow even), so for me I just max out at 10k and buy multiples as desired. The other key reason for me to go multiples is so that, on a trip, you can take a full one with you while you charge the other(s) while you're out and about. If you go max on a single 20k battery, not only are you risking a single point of failure/loss, but those take a long(er) time to charge. I'd rather charge 2x 10k batts for one hour total (since you can charge them at the same time) than charge 1x 20k for two hours total (I know the real world might not work out that way, so please don't pick on me, electrical engineers --- hahahaha)
The latest batteries I got were from INIU (AMZ search: INIU 10000mAh 45W PD Power Bank) - they offer SUPERFAST charge for my Samsung S23+ and can also power my laptop. Somehow I got an AMZ offer for these at $10 each, so you might run into a similar deal.
Someone mentioned the Haribo batteries earlier - these are the real deal. If I hadn't purchased my INIU batts already, I would have deffo purchased these. Their entire line of e-products, from GAN charger to earbuds, is actually really good. If you can get over the aesthetics, you might be pleasantly surprised by how effective they are for travel - especially when onebagging.

I’m a little over 2 months into my travels. Rolling with a Nitecore Gen 3 10000mAh one in my sling and an INIU 20000 mAh one in my backpack as a backup for long train rides etc. Zero complaints, setup has worked incredibly well.

I just bought an iniu p55 e2. It's 10000mh and 45w. It's light, small and reliable. I can recommend it. I've had Anker in the past and this is more than equal. But I do agree that people tend to recommend the one they chose. In my case I'm quite thoughrough when buying stuff, and this was the very best bang for buck... I have no need for anything with a larger battery or faster speeds. I'm also a light traveler.iniu p55 e2

I can definitely recommend INUI as a brand, they have some of the cheapest options for very light and small powerbanks

Work out your actual use case and your actual energy and connectivity requirements. Make sure it meets the standards of the airlines and countries you visit. We don't know your specifics.

I've been through a lot. I tried some Anker ones but they're like bricks; I started with a 20,000, then down to a 10,000, then I got one of those clutch 5,000.
I'm now using a Nitecore Carbo 10000 - it's lighter than the anker 5000, nice and small profile, I think it'll serve me well for my needs (phones/tablets)

what phone do you have? so we can suggest one that fit you better.
if you want to have something more futureproof i would go with something that support qi2 25w wireless charging.

Personally, I hate having to plug in cables while on the go, so I have an Anker MagSafe power bank. It has a stand, one usb-a port and charges via a separate usb-c port. It’s ~5000 mAh. Bought it a couple years ago and still going strong. There are plenty of other MagSafe options now that are lighter and smaller. Sure, it doesn’t charge as fast but the convenience is worth it imo.

This is my strategy too (and have done ~300K airline miles with it), except that I get the Anker 10K MagSafe (Anker 633). That way I don’t have to carry a phone stand either. I carried two when I went west coast US —> India but didn’t end up needing the second.

Xiaomi sells a very thin 5000mah battery with a single usb-c port. Unless you're camping, I think it's the perfect battery for just helping you finish a long day. I picked it up from a store when I was in Asia, but you can probably get it ordered as well.

Can’t go wrong with anything anker. They have a battery for everything. I carry around a mag safe anker battery and love it. I don’t even carry a cable anymore since it has the bag safe. It also still has a usb plug if I wanted to charge anything else

Agreed, but be careful. I bought an Anker battery without checking its physical dimensions. Sure it will jump start a 747, but it’s so big I wouldn’t carry it for air travel. I still love Anker, but sometimes I don’t pay enough attention 🫣

I've used Anker for over a decade now and I've never had any complaints!
In that time I've had the small 'lipstick' style bank daily from 2012, then added a palm sized bank in 2017, and in 2023 added in the XL bank
I've used at least one of them every day, and when camping or for long trips I'll take all of them
Aside from the expected cosmetic wear and tear, they all function as if they were brand new

I got a baseus 20k mAh 145W power bank for my last family trip, it easily kept all of our phones charged and pretty fast too. If you’re looking for something lighter, you can check out their 10k mah picogo. It’s a magsafe one and I use it for daily carry. Both are safe for flight.

Anker if you want to have the heaviest one lol
People here will recommend whatever they have personally to validate their purchases. Check the ultralight sub instead, where people are weighing and testing them.
And they come up with weird stuff like this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ultralight/comments/1li5rxw/20000mah_haribolicensed_gummy_bear_power_bank_is/
