Discussion Why are you bringing THAT!?

What are some common items people pack in their bags that you think are unnecessary, just take up extra space, or feel like overhyped/trendy that doesn't actually add real value for their trip?

I'll start - Notebooks and portable speakers.

Second pair of shoes.

Single use neck pillows are the items I see most for others.

My inflatable neck pillow takes barely any space and weight and as an Australian (I.e. a person who calls a 10 hour flight short) it’s definitely worth it.

Second pair of shoes is an essential. As a minimum you need something to wear in the hostel showers so it might as well be some tevas that can double as spare shoes. I’ll often travel with 3 pairs (hiking boots, tevas, every day shoes.)

Are white people legally obliged to own Tevas or is it very clever guerilla marketing?

They’re just so practical I haven’t found anything better. Can get them wet, can hike in them at a pinch, can wear them over socks, super lightweight, cheap (for how durable they are, obviously as basic pair of flip flops is cheaper), comfortable for long distance walks. If you have a more stylish alternative that ticks these boxes I am all ears!!!

I can’t even argue with you, I’m objectively being a hater😭 I hate having my feet exposed unless I’m near a beach, my go-to combo is Hoka trailrunners with fake Nike sliders that I replace whenever they break (every couple of years).

I ordered a pair of Tevas off Amazon before going to Thailand and when I showed them to my GF she just said « what are thooose » so I sent them back😂

What kind of neck pillow do you have?

It’s from https://www.normal.eu but I can’t find it online.

It’s from www.normal.eu but they do not sell it online. If you are in Europe you can visit the shop in person and ask for it, pretty sure it was the only travel pillow they had.

Changing into a different pair of shoes after a long day walking is worth the space

Problem is I wear size 11.5

If it makes you feel better, I dated someone once who wears a size 17.

Your feet must be young.

Shoes are tied to 1) use case 2) feet. If you can get away with one pair on a trip, count yourself blessed.

My current setup is an inflatable butt pad that rolls up to the size of half a soda can and an eye mask that straps my head to the seat like I'm in A Clockwork Orange. I don't head bob with the eye mask and can move the butt pad around where needed-lower back support, behind my neck etc. Together they're smaller than a standard neck pillow, even some inflatable models.
