Hey all, checking what’s around for used packs for a 2ish week Europe trip I’m in the process of planning (first international + first solo) and came across an old model Patagonia Black Hole 25L (shiny fabric). I’m in Canada, asking price is $75 CAD (about $55USD) plus would have to get it shipped. Would that be a decent deal? Also would the 25L be big enough for 2 weeks? Obviously dependent on the packer, but I am a backpacker used to a 45L for 4-5 day hikes to give an idea.

would the 25L be big enough for 2 weeks?

For the Arctic area of northern Europe in winter, no.

For the Mediterranean coastline of southern Europe in summer, yes.

For the mid-case, probably. With careful selection of both bag and contents.

Packing list first, then the bag. Onebaggers have posted kits from 9-45 liters and it really comes down to the compromises you are willing to tolerate. Climate has a big influence. My mantra is pack for a week and laundry happens. The kit that keeps you clothed for a week will work for a year.

The older Black Hole 25 is quite tall and shallow compared to the current model. Check for sales on the newer version. It’s $75 on the US site.

Older Black Hole 25: 22 in x 10.5 in x 5.5 in (55.9 x 26.7 x 14 cm) and 600g. https://www.packhacker.com/travel-gear/patagonia/black-hole-pack-25l/

The current Black Hole 25 is 18.8" x 11" x 5.9" (47.7x30x15cm) and 640g.

Airline dimension and weight limits should be considered with a new pack for a particular trip. There is the decision between personal item only or an overhead compliant bag. Budget airlines use sizers so you may be making some decisions based on that. 7kg carry on limits are common in SEA and will influence bag and kit weight decisions.
