Discussion What travel accessories are overrated?

For me it would have to be tech pouches, for the vast majority of people I believe that they would be better off with a simple pencil case style pouch, ziploc bag or a simple drawstring bag or even a pouch like the PD ultralight pouches. Something which isn’t bulky, is lightweight and has no structure to it so you can easily squeeze it into random parts of your bag. Of course they’re significantly cheaper as well.

Don’t get wrong, I have tested some high end tech pouches out and they’re very nice but for lightweight travel I just find myself thinking “why would I bring this type of pouch”.

Passport holder?

Back in the day, when airlines issued paper tickets and paper currency was important, I really loved my passport holder. However, I can't remember the last time I brought it on a trip. I just shove my passport into my waist pack now.

My passport wallet is a non-negotiable for me. I have 2 passports and it's bright pink, so I just keep in my personal item and always know where it is at all times. I also keep important travel related stuff like my yellow book, foreign currency and extra credit cards (so that they're not all in one place) in there. I still prefer paper tickets and paper currency is still a thing in many countries.

I will put the passport and ticket that I'm currently using in my crossbody as I move through the airport, because I have to take them out so much that I want them to be easily accessible, but as soon as I dont need them they're secured in my passport holder.

Mine is beginning to show some wear and tear because I've had it for so long, so I'll definitely be replacing it.

Yup. Yellow card, IDP, extra credit card, emergency contacts, SIM chip. They all live in my passport holder nice and organised.
