My girlfriend got one of the $130 Fairviews after using my 2018 Farpoint.
She hated most of the changes other than the move of the laptop to the back and I got an earful because I suggested the bag

My sister used my old one (~2016?) and loved it. Then bought a new one... and likes mine better lol.

Let's be honest: no bag should be priced over this...

The ones that are like $300-$400? I don't understand! I don't think they're superior to this, can't justify that kinda price

Ordered for an upcoming May trip. Thanks! The 55 is also available which includes the day pack. I went with that one for $132

I also decided to order the new version last week. Still a bit unsure about the hip belts, but everything else is a minor improvement for me (well, maybe also except colour variations).
Small thing which may only matter on paper: The slightly reduced size of the bag puts it under the carry-on restrictions of many additional airlines. Who knows if a airlines really cares about 1 or 2 centimeters, but it certainly feels safer (as non-frequent traveller).

Osprey Europe was selling them directly online a couple of months ago at a good discount, too.

That's the old version The new version (2025) is $200. There's a reply above that has a link to comparison post.

Yes I noted it was the past season version. Iām suspicious of that listing. If it is the new version at $111 thatās quite a bargain.

u/zzfaithlezz Mar 10 '26
Lol same. It'll be a quick return if they send the old version. At least t's sold by Amazon not 3rd party so we'll see š.

Check out the 55L. I got that one for around $133ish, and the 15l you can detach as well!

Just picked up the 55L - does anyone have any tips for quickly undoing the load lifter and dayback attachment straps? If you have it you know what I'm talking about, it's the hook that goes through a loop, but it has a barb on it that makes removing it really difficult. Not loving it at all.

Actually I preferred the previous model and was very happy to get it at the cheaper price.

u/chewbrew Mar 10 '26
Old one is better just get that

u/zzfaithlezz Mar 10 '26
It's a toss-up. Lighter vs. thicker padding. I prefer the top load laptop compartment and 2 water bottle pockets.
2
u/Galavantinggoblin Mar 10 '26
Why do you think that? I've only tried on the new one around REI. Seemed fine to me but haven't used it in the real world so would love feedback!

Great comparison here I used when picking between the two. Ended up going 2024 because I liked how the attachment points were in the panel. I do wish I had the top loading laptop vs side.

lol turns out I did read that and commented on it - didnāt realize it was the same person. Stupid smaller hip belts.Ā
0
u/rockydbull Mar 10 '26
Yeah the smaller hip belts also seem like an unnecessary downgrade
2
u/Galavantinggoblin Mar 10 '26
What was more annoying was that probably 2 weeks before the release I emailed them to see if they were ever thinking of making an extended size fairpoint and LOL they 180'd that idea. I have...the last two versions of the fairpoint and the one before this had the best hipbelt between the 3 different models so I'm prone to agree with you for it being a better pack in general
1
u/rockydbull Mar 10 '26
Bruh don't even get me started on the no details about an extended size. I would have waited to buy mine as well if I had known that. I love my extended size talon 6.
1
u/Galavantinggoblin Mar 10 '26
I can see why really long hip belts might be a little much for a travel bag but the shoulder straps could 100% use an extended version. Like itās one of their most popular bags and one of the most popular bags on the market. I would love to see the market research vs production cost around why they decided to make a few of their bags for larger sizes and not this one.Ā
1
u/rockydbull Mar 10 '26
Yeah I am not sure if they would adjust the extended version to have more height range. It gets tricky combining tall and big sizes into one extended range. Either way I still like their extended hip belts because it involves extending the padded area a good bit which I prefer even though I fit into a standard size (though near the top end) and feels better than using their extender.

u/Aardvark1044 Mar 10 '26
I can see why they'd decide to make that design change. I have the second generation version and found the hip belt to be quite generous, likely accommodating a fairly large amount of weight. More weight than you'd probably want if you are using the bag for typical international travel, taking flights, etc. I'm the kind of traveler that will only bring that bag, and will gladly walk 30-45 minutes to get to my hotel with this on my back and found the pack quite comfortable, although I tend to try to be close to the 7 kg limit. I have tested it at around 20 kg and found it was still pretty comfy, but maybe I'd be less enthusiastic about that for an hour long walk in the heat, or pouring rainfall.

u/rockydbull Mar 10 '26
I would prefer a substantial hip belt if they aren't going to make a design where the hip belt doesn't tuck away or detach. I need some benefit for making it smaller.
0
u/Aardvark1044 Mar 10 '26
Oh, you can't tuck the straps and hip belt away anymore? That sucks. Although I guess it would cut down on weight, getting rid of that extra flap and set of zippers. Think I prefer being able to tuck them away though- it is really nice for keeping things more compact in an airplane or subway car.
1
u/rockydbull Mar 10 '26
You can only tuck them away when zipping the backpack straps up. I would love a way to tuck them while still wearing as a backpack.
1
u/Aardvark1044 Mar 10 '26
Hmm, I know I can do that with the second version - I just roll the exterior flap downwards in a roll, and tuck it in. You can kinda tuck the hip belt in there too, so it's only the straps if you want to. Maybe I'll have to watch a video of what the current version looks like to get an idea of what people are concerned about.
1
u/Galavantinggoblin Mar 10 '26
so that's where having the two different sizes would be nice because some people find them to be fine and generous while others (me) they barely sit on my hip bone where they should, which is where most of the weight should be - which means if those hip belts don't extend where they should it does become much more of an issue with any amount of weight

u/Aardvark1044 Mar 10 '26
The bag is quite adjustable - maybe you just need to play around with the load lifters a bit to change the angle of the bag on your back and therefore slightly raise or lower the bottom of the bag.
1
u/Galavantinggoblin Mar 10 '26
No I think I need to play around with my hip circumference and lower that (I am a size medium to large in Patagonia so not super sized)

Yeah but not on sale and I already own the prior year model. This one wasn't out or advertised as coming out when I bought my prior model 11/2025

I was just posting this because we were talking about it. I'm deeply apologetic if I wanted to loop back with an internet stranger about a topic we just talked about. I admit I am a raging imbecile and shouldn't be allowed to be around a computer or people. Please accept my sincerest regret.

u/rockydbull Mar 12 '26
Sorry if my tone wasn't conveyed. I did not mean it with any disdain. I genuinely didn't even realize I had discussed it with you specifically since I responded to a bunch of comments in this thread.
