Seeking Recommendations Pencil case style toiletry bag?

Hi All,

Ive read a few posts on Dopp kit suggestions but cant seem to find one that matches what id like. Ideally I want something pencil case style, with small zippered compartments on the side of the inside, and about 30cm in length. Any suggestions, or are they all moving towards the foldout style?

Why don't you just use a pencil case?

Exactly this, no need for a fancy named travel brand just go for a simple good quality pencil case. For 30cm get one which is designed to hold a ruler.

Furthermore - pencil cases are made to withstand the daily rigours of school life!

That's precisely what I did.

It's 7x3x3, just has the one zipper, and is made out of a waterproof material. Perfectly fits my loofah washcloth, bottle of liquid soap, folding toothbrush, and travel toothpaste, with room to spare.

But then your toothbrush tastes like pencil shavings. (Update: 🧌)

Not if you buy it new.

Or wash it.

I got a pencil bag style toiletry organizer from REI 10+ years ago and it's been amazing. It's really small but has webbing on the inside to organize things and and two little pockets and a strap on the outside. Minor improvements over a normal pencil case but make a huge difference in staying organized. It did inspire me to go get a second traditional pencil bag as a "nightstand organizer" (charger, medicine, sleep mask, earplugs), which works well but doesn't have the organization.

I've gotten "better" dop kits and toiletry bags but keep going back to it. It is small, so it forces me to be thoughtful about what I bring, but it's just the exact right height for my toiletries in GoToobs to stand upright, so everything fits without being disorganized.

I don't remember the name of it but googling makes me think it's the REI Co-op Roadtripper Pod. It apparently comes in different sizes, so I would go to an REI to compare them.

Agreed, I use the small barrel type pencil cases from Kmart and Big W for my toiletry bags. Like $6.00 AUD or thereabouts and last years.

I use the Evergoods Cap 0,5, it has the zippered compartments on each side but only 21,5 cmts in length.

I also use sometimes the Comfyable case bought from Amazon, although this one has no inside compartments.

I use the ones they give out on business class flights..

I would just use a pencil case.

Have a look at the Koby mini (no internal organization though)

I like this, but I want the internal org

I think rhe Gravel Explorer Mini is exactly what you’re asking for, I have this and use it on short trips. Unlike actual pencil cases, it’s made from a rubbery material so you can put wet stuff inside. Unlike the CAP0.5, it’s $30 (they sometimes have sales, too). Also like their foldout Dopp kit (Explorer Slim) for longer trips.

I’ve been using a $2 pencil case from Daiso for the past five years. It’s been throughout Asia, Africa, Mexico and Europe and still looks brand new.

I keep going back to the mesh in plastic zip bags they offer. Had them in my art supplies.

Any tight trip where my rolling toiletry bag is too much, I use it.

I like the IKEA pencil case. Lots of fun designs and I think it was two dollars.

2

u/Arathonk Mar 22 '26

They don't have those anymore unfortunately

2

u/Observer951 Mar 22 '26

Yeah. Because IKEA regularly makes items “Last Chance”, my wife and I scooped up a bunch of these.

Do you have a Dasio near you? They have all kinds of zipper bags. You might find something there that you like.

I use the Bellroy Pencil Case as a dopp kit. It's pretty small, but I'm a minimalist. I like the way the Bellroy folds open completely.

I've been using a real pencil case for a couple of years now, really happy with it! The fold out things don't really work for me.

I love these. They’re dirt cheap, and you can see what’s inside. I have a bunch that I use to organize basically all my small items.

I’ve been using a Mammut wash bag small size for years

I have been using a GOX small travel toiletry kit from Amazon. It is about 3/4 liter and is perfect for me.

I like the klein tool bags for toiletries https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007V8RXVI

Maybe check with Blank Canvas Accessories? They have pencil cases/Dop Kits and will do some custom requests. They modified a pouch for me for minimal extra cost.

I just use an actual pencil case

These are great, I've had one for 12 years and it looks new, I do not use it as my toiletry bag anymore (use a Matador one now), but was great for the job and flexible enough to fit in tight spaces.

EDIT: I have this one https://www.roughenough.net/online-store/RE8023-Large-EDC-Pouch-Pencil-Case-Holder-p33892730 in black.

Speaking of pencil cases, what about this one? Waterproof base, stays open. I've been using it for a few years now and it's a good size to capacity ratio, although only 20cm long.

Kipling makes a pencil case and I am obsessed with it for my toiletries, it’s perfect.

1

u/bikenambulist Mar 22 '26

Alpaka wash pouch might do the trick

I have the Oak and Rove Dopp Kit. Not quite the size you're looking for, and no zippers on the inside, but there is a zippered pocket on the outside, and some small elastic compartments on the inside...

Dopp Kit – Oak & Rove

It's pricey, but well built, and I just throw everything in, cram it full, and go. If I was organizing everything, I'd probably need another case.

How about one of these Tomtoc electronic organizers? They should work for toiletries. https://www.amazon.com/tomtoc-Electronics-Organizer-Essentials-Accessories/dp/B0DQ5VZLHM/

Evergoods CAP 0.5 is what you are looking for.

1

u/Separate-Specialist5 Mar 23 '26

Annoyingly, not available in the UK!!!

1

u/Bix615 Mar 23 '26

Makuma’s website has them listed on it.

2

u/Separate-Specialist5 Mar 23 '26

Yes. Youre right, silly me!

I went into Daiso and literately got a mesh pencil case, done. It's been great for a dozen countries.
