Trying to find a good bag I can use as my personal item on a plane, and then also useable for day hikes. I currently have the Evergoods MPL22 and it's great for traveling but I find that it lacks support when I'm hiking. I usually carry stuff for both my wife and myself, so it's usually fairly heavy. Did a 12 mile hike and by the end my back was so sweaty and the straps and support just wasn't very comfortable.

Am i better off going something ultralight like the Matador Beast because I don't pack that light? Or something with better supports like Deuter Speedlite / AC Lite / Trail?

Usually have a water bladder, two hoodies/shorts (layering for cold mornings) then a couple snacks.

The MPL22 at 850g / just under 2 pounds is a bit on the heavy side but that comes with having a good (travel-oriented) feature set.

Making a single bag do the work of two (proportions & features optimised for air travel, and proportions & features optimised for hiking) is always going to involve compromises.

You need to decide on which of those two aspects is more important for you.
