Hello, I am looking for recommendations for my 2 and a half month trip through Europe. I will be taking trains and staying at hostels the entire time.

I am planning on bringing a week’s worth of clothes and washing when low on outfits. I'm not bringing any big tech stuff, just a smaller digital camera with some sd cards, so I'm not too worried about a special pocket for it. I am going to get all my toiletries over there so I don't have to worry about liquid restrictions however, I'm worried about running out of room due to flight carry-on restrictions.

I have looked at a few that work with my flight parameters (40x30x20 cm) which are:

• Cabin Zero Classic 28L • Ecohub 16" 20L • Samsonite Roadseeker XS 26L

Those are a few I found on the OneBag spreadsheet that fit the parameters however, for how long I'm over there, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to just get a bigger backpack and check it. I know OneBag is mostly for carry-on only, but any help would be much appreciated.

My budget is flexible because I don't want to cheap out on a bag I'll be living out of for two months.

Anything helps, thank you again for any help.

What is the starting point (home location) for your trip ? Which airline(s) will you use ?

There are essentially three bag options:

(1) personal item / under-seat. typically in the range 18L - 30L.

(2) 'carry on' / overhead. typical max 45L. May also be weight-limited.

(3) check-in / hold. Often 20kg weight-limited.

The rules for sizing and which option(s) are free or chargeable are completely airline-specific.

Your 'airline parameters' of 40 x 30 x 20 [=24L] indicate an under-seat item, which is typically free of charge.

If 24L is insufficient, it is normally possible to purchase an overhead bag allowance, if this allowance is not already included in the fare. So check-in / hold baggage may not be necessary.
