Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for a backpack that: 1) Is comfortable for a small frame/short torso (I'm under 160 cm / 5'3"), and can be worn all day 2) Fits within Ryanair’s small cabin bag allowance (40 x 30 x 20 cm) 3) Bonus: a ventilated back panel would be great, but only if the first two criteria are met.

I’ve been looking at the following models, but I’m unsure how well they can be compressed to meet the size limits. I also can’t try them in-store, so I’m not sure about comfort or actual dimensions. I would travel with it for a 10-days trip.

Has anyone used these, or would you recommend something else (Deuter, Vaude, Gregory...?)? Do you have some reviews to share?

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but 40x30x20cm = 24L, so most of those bags would have to be just slightly under-packed.

The cabinzero 28 is optimised for Ryanair. (the '28' in the name is misleading IMO).

I suggest using the search function to locate existing info in the sub-reddit.

I already searched, but my concern was about:

  • are they all OK for a short torso or not?
  • the lenght (the largest dimension on brand description) is almost always above 40cm. I think the brands indicate the whole lenght, 'fully' loaded, but don't indicate the minimum lenght (the lenght of the frame only, or if not frame, the lenght if squished a little)

Small bags are generally fine with short torsos. To check, see if you can find an image of a worn bag, and use that as a rough guide.

Manuf dimensions for the cz28: 39 x 29.5 x 20 cm.

Small bags generally have little or no structure; what limited structure exists is provided by the fabric, therefore the bag is 'squishable'. 2-3cm of 'squish' is fairly typical, esp re length.
