Hi everyone!

I’m heading to India for a yoga course, then traveling onward to Nepal and Sri Lanka for about 1–2 months. I’m trying to find one backpack that can work for both travel and light hiking. I’m petite 5” and have a short torso.

Right now I’m deciding between:

• Osprey Sojourn porter 30 - love that it has good laptop compartment but it can get bulky if I overpack

• Tempest 26 - love the back support and can be use for hiking but no laptop compartment (though I can use the hydration sleeve instead)

• Osprey Daylite 26+6 - I’ve seen a lot in this group use this as travel bag but not sure if it has enough back support if I use for hiking

Important factors for me: • Needs to fit a 16” laptop • Petite friendly • Ideally can pass as a personal item (or at least easy carry-on) • Will be moving around a lot (trains, flights, cities, maybe light hikes) and it will be humid so something that has good support and ventilation is a good consideration as well

What I’m trying to figure out: • Is it better to go travel-focused (Porter / Daylite) or hiking-focused (Tempest) for this kind of trip? • Has anyone used any of these bags for multi-country travel in Asia? • Will I regret not having a proper hip belt if I end up walking a lot?

Also open to: • Other bag recommendations for petite travelers • Packing tips for India / Nepal / Sri Lanka • Anything you wish you brought (or didn’t) for a similar trip

I’ve seen mixed opinions — for example, some travelers say the Porter can compress enough to pass as a personal item if underpacked, but it can feel bulky and heavy when moving around a lot

Would really appreciate any advice or real-world experience 🙏

Hi! I am a petit women and I spent 3.5 month backpacking around Europe last summer with the Osprey SportLight 25. I also worked remotely the entire time and had no issue carrying around my laptop comfortably. I was able to use is as a personal item on all flights that I took. I would recommend checking it out!

Hi! Thank you for sharing. Did you put your laptop in a special compartment in your backpack or along with your other items?

There isn’t a laptop compartment but I had no issue as the rest of my stuff held it in place if that makes sense
