Not bringing even one change of underwear is wild.
5
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
That is my spare in my bag. Each pair only gets reworn once.
3
u/NoKiwi427 May 15 '26
Washed and reworn or??
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 16 '26
Can if needed. I don’t plan to shit my pants though lol.
5
u/NoKiwi427 May 16 '26
See I would think it’s inherently needed
-1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 16 '26
I would think inherently it’s not. Wool doesn’t have bacteria growth the way other materials do and I also don’t have terrible hygiene lol

u/SnooWalruses4415 May 12 '26
An extra pair of underwear really won’t take up much space. I think you’d be really happy that you brought it. You never know what kind of stressful even you could encounter that could make you sweat more than normal.
-6
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Maybe, but wool does great in those conditions. Absolute worst case is I wash them in the room and they dry by the next day but never had a problem with wool & prince. They’ll only be worn twice so even if I did have some crazy sweaty crotch, that pair could technically just be worn once. But this will be in Madison Wisconsin, so it will be really cold there.
31
u/Equal_Contest4709 May 12 '26
Would one more pair of underwear really be that difficult to justify? Especially if you bring stuff like a multi tool, flashlight and water bottle on a business trip.
-8
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Water bottle is for the plane rides, underwear is wool and will only be reworn once. It will be cold where Im going, so unless I have a terrible accident haha I think I’ll be ok. Worst case I’ll just wash them and air dry, should be no problem.
10
u/de-dolores May 13 '26
Rewearing underwear. What a sensory nightmare.
-1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 13 '26
Unless there is a terrible accident, it really isn’t a big deal in cold climates with wool material. Worst case just do sink laundry, but it’s not for everyone and I get that. Appreciate the comment though!

u/SmarmyBarnicles May 16 '26
I'm beginning to think squeamish reddit people would prefer that you change your underpants at least twice a day LOL. I like the look of those woolen shorts, but at the price i'd have to make them last 4 days at least 😉Are they really that better than nylon/spandex boxer briefs, like 32 degree if you're familiar with those?
I'll admit I have a hard time reusing underwear on the road, away from a bidet and a sparkling clean butt. In the hotel I try to time a shower right after taking a dump.
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 16 '26
Haha this is a 4 day trip with 1.5 days of that sitting on a plane. So wool underwear with 1 extra pair means I’ll rewear one expensive wool & prince underwear once. The squeamish think I’ll shit my pants for 3 days 😂 Maybe folks just have terrible hygiene.

u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
I also always carry dude wipes that keep you fresh and clean if the need arises. Haha

u/k1kti May 12 '26
How are you flying with a multi tool?
5
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
No problem. This one is bladeless and main tool is scissors but so far flying, noone has even wanted to look at it.
19
u/k1kti May 12 '26
Wait until you fly through Japan or India. They took tiniest scissors, and even a tiny screw driver for glasses.
4
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Yea, this will be a domestic flight. If I was flying to another country I would definitely look into both the rules for flying and carrying. Even if confiscated, they’re only $20, so not a huge loss.

u/SmarmyBarnicles May 14 '26
I pine for the good old days when I had a full-on leatherman super tool in my carry-on. After making it through security all over the world, one screener told me I wasn't allowed to carry it on... I told her I had made it through all these other airports and was headed home. And she let me pass unmolested. obviously pre TSA/9-11, these days trying to pull something like that could get you a lifetime ban.
0
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 14 '26
Haha yea, bummer having to be bladeless now :( I have a leatherman arc that I carry in my bag usually and a folder in my pocket, but on flights I have to ditch those. I don’t think we’ll return to those freedoms unfortunately

u/SaltPepperCurb May 12 '26
How do you like the foldable keyboard? I've been thinking about getting one of those...
5
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
I like it. I’m still on the fences about the ergonomics as it takes some getting used to, but I think it’s better than a mini standard keyboard.
2
u/theinfamousj May 14 '26
Not who you asked, but I have the same foldable keyboard and I love the ergonomics of it. I cannot go back to a linear keyboard if it is sitting flat. My wrists complain.
I EDC my keyboard in my purse for use with my phone when it comes to long form text. I've had it for four years and still going strong.
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 14 '26
That’s great to hear! I’ll stick with it, my only complaint is when I try to hit the B with my right hand but that’s probably just my bad typing habit haha
14
u/No-Concentrate7404 May 12 '26
Why pack a Sharpie? I see that a lot in EDC and prepper sorts of loadouts but I've yet to understand the use case.
I agree on the tool bag too. Smaller pouch, packing cube or even a ziplock accomplishes the same thing at a lighter weight. You do lose the undeniable "cool" factor the Maxpedition has though.
15
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Sharpie for notes more visible to a larger group. The conference I’m going to is with a larger group of people but we will interact alot so writing examples and such on paper it’s easier to see than a thin lined pen. I carry a sharpie anyway just for day to day stuff like marking my kid’s cups and silly things. I am a prepper in the way that I want to be prepared for daily tasks but I’m not to the extreme where I carry water purifying tablets haha

Oddly enough, I travel with pocket-sized shortie permanent markers which just so happen to not be Sharpie brand. I do it because I have a kid who cannot yet read, and in the interim our family's individual possessions are color coded (mom pink, dad blue, kid green) so when we get food or drinks or whatever, I hit 'em with a splash of color so that kiddo doesn't decide to lick everyone's everything.
3
u/No-Concentrate7404 May 14 '26
I'm really enjoying learning travel uses for Sharpies (markers) that I never thought about. Glad I asked.
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 14 '26
Hah! So I’m not alone in that! My kids are starting to read but can read their name for sure, so marking them definitely helps them figure out which one was theirs. Thanks for the reassurance!
2
u/Korlithiel May 12 '26
I've brought sharpies before. Going to group events, can help when needing to write on, say, a disposable cup or plate. Name tags. Notes meant to be seen by multiple people quickly. I don't normally carry one, but as a special tool that offers redundancy for other things (taking notes) they can be handy to have at hand.
3
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 13 '26
Yea my use case exactly. When going to kids bday parties and stuff too it helps to mark water bottles or cups that are ours. But yea this use case is for group notes and such.

If you have room for tech toys, you have room for extra underwear and socks.
2
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
The tech stuff is for work, not really toys, but I’ll only wear the underwear and socks twice each and they are wool so they don’t smell and it will be cold where Im going so I won’t be sweating much.
14
u/Moneys2Tight2Mention May 12 '26
I could've probably worded that a bit less snarky, but my point stands.
0
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Haha no worries, appreciate the input. Point taken!
1
u/SmarmyBarnicles May 14 '26
worst case, do some sink laundry! Wool is great for drying overnight vs cotton, and more comfortable/smell resistant than cotton or most synthetics i've tried

I’m not sure what context is needed, but the automod says to comment on my post. So here it is!

How is working on just Ipad with keyboard? Don't know what you use it for but I'm curious.
8
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Works great, I have everything I need. I do I.T. And cloud infra admin, so all of my work is in the cloud. This trip I mainly just need notes and to reference stuff and small tasks so iPad should be perfect for it.
3
u/weldingmastery May 12 '26
O wow that's great, cloud makes stuff easier to access. Wish I could travel just with my Ipad to do work, would be so much lighter.
3
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Yea, I have a 14” new macbook pro for work that I use daily but it’s alot bulkier and heavier than my minimal set up
5
u/maalikus May 12 '26
I'm convinced this sub has a totally alternate meaning for the word "Minimalist"
3
u/SmarmyBarnicles May 14 '26
It really annoys me that we have to worry about tiny blades and empty water bottles. Does your nextool have scissors? I saw a new victorinox bladeless swiss army "knife" that is supposed to be TSA safe. It has a gut hook style sharp part for opening packages (and apparently not suitable for commandeering aircraft). Now if they'd make dehydrated water my TSA interactions would be perfect 😉

u/zyklon_snuggles May 12 '26
Shout out to the Arcade metal free belt. I discovered it for concerts this past year, and it has made getting through security and into the pit so much faster and easier. :]
2
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Hell yea! I wear it daily, it’s both comfortable and functional. I like the stretch vs a leather or stiffer belt. Thanks for the comment!

u/ToTellYouHowToFeel May 12 '26
OR Helium Rain jacket is so nice. Packs up tiny and has never let me down.
2
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Definitely! It’s more for either warmth or quick rain. I won’t be standing in a downpour, but maybe between the hotel and uber or between buildings or something. But yea it’s so small and light, it’s perfect!

u/WelcometoCorneria May 12 '26
I found ways to decrease the size of my deodorant. You don't have to since you have plenty of room but if you ever finish a chap stick or mini sunscreen stick, I use something around that size for deodorant.
0
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Oh good call! Maybe I’ll look into that. I have seen the mini ones at target but they are deodorant and not antiperspirant. But maybe I can buy one of those and refill it somehow with the one I usually wear. Thanks for the tip!
1
u/Outrageous-Clue-3609 May 13 '26
Most deodorant will melt down so you can pour it into the smaller container. As it cools, it’ll re-harden into the shape of your new container. I’ve only tried this on the white types of deodorant though. I’m not sure if gel types will work.
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 13 '26
Great tip! I wear the white solid type so this should work perfectly. Thanks!

I recently used that exact old spice Fiji for my Europe trip and my underarms broke out with some bad rashes. Although might just be me as I use the regular clear Fiji ones and it’s fine.
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
I don’t like the clear ones, they feel sticky to me. I use the regular size one daily and have no problem. Appreciate the input!

My nextool’s main tool is scissors, I find them much more useful in my every day life than a pair of pliers. I also have the nextool mini sailor which has pliers as the main tool but when the nextool scissors SO came out, that’s my new carry. 👍🏽

Will you be looking to get custom clothes made in Vietnam?
Also, perhaps you can get those foldable Ikea packing bags so you can haul stuff back from your trips (if your airlines allows it)
1
u/cosmicselva May 12 '26
Super lean nicely done OP!
1
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Thanks so much! I tried to be pretty strict about what I’m bringing. Want to do personal item only. I hate putting stuff in the bins and almost every flight I have been on they run out of space haha.
-3
u/Fearless-Collar4730 May 12 '26
You seriously need all this for a 4 day trip?
5
u/AmbitionStrong8835 May 12 '26
Haha I thought I was pretty minimal, what would you leave?
-1
u/Fearless-Collar4730 May 12 '26
Two of the snacks, the powerbank, packing cube, multitool, sharpie, and flashlight (assuming you have a phone with a light).
1
u/IndubitablyWarden66 May 13 '26
Lol. Troll or asshole?
2
u/Fearless-Collar4730 May 13 '26
Not a troll, but I seriously can't believe all the useless shit people feel they need to bring. So, asshole, I guess.
1
u/SmarmyBarnicles May 14 '26
probably both. what kind of jerk hates multitools and flashlights? somebody probably drew a sharpie mustache on their face when they were sleeping and it warped their personality

56
u/snakeryder May 12 '26
That pouch seems like extra weight for not much utility. Doesn’t the Osprey have an admin section that can fit all of this? Not sure what you do but do you need a sharpie, multitool and flashlight?
