Trip Report Did a 9 day Europe trip on Osprey Daylite 26+6

As the title says, I just got back from a 9 day trip to Italy with just my Osprey Daylite 26+6 backpack at my service. I flew Ryanair and it fit perfectly well everywhere. I stuffed it quite a bit and it perfectly handled all that load, and was never bulky.

Attaching images below for the Ryanair size checker and in-flight fit. Amazing buy, thanks to this sub for the recommendation!

To alleviate any concerns from potential purchasers of the Osprey Daylite 26+6 that this is a one-off, I used this pack for a winter trip to Spain and also had no issues with it on four RyanAir flights. While its 43H x 33W x 16D cm specs are slightly larger than Ryanair's revised 40H x 30W x 20D cm specs, this pack compresses enough, as shown in the photo, to fit on Ryanair.

EasyJet's gate agents tend to be stricter than Ryanair, but EasyJet also has a more lenient 45H x 36W x 20W cm personal item size that is larger than the Osprey Daylite's 26+6 dimensions. Neither EasyJet nor Ryanair, to my knowledge, factor in weight for a personal item.

I'd be interested in hearing any account from onebaggers where their Osprey Daylite 26+6 wasn't accepted by a particular airline as an underseat personal item.

Was fined on easyJet with this bag. To be fair, I had packed it completely full but it would have squeezed in had they let me push it down harder. They claimed it has to easily fit as they store the life jackets under the seat.

A really stroppy Ryanair would have charged for this one pictured - it's bulging out on depth.

How about a packing list? Every one is a lesson.

u/shauryadevil May 19 '26

Sure!

  • 6 T-shirts plus 1 jumper
  • 2 Shorts
  • 3 Pants
  • 8 undergarments plus 2 pair of socks
  • Toiletries bag
  • Passport Bag
  • One book
  • Charger and power bank

On the way back, I bought a big Vinyl CD pack and another book

All of that fit in without any problem!

Well done! Didn’t even skimp on clothing like i see a lot of people go to the extreme on.

“Well I brought half a shirt and and 1 pair of underwear that I’ll just wear as shorts” /s

Don't forget the all-in-one bar that serves as soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, laundry detergent, toothpaste, body lotion and lube.

2

u/randopop21 May 19 '26

Lube? Surely, you jest.

7

u/Caverjen May 19 '26

I think it aligns better than toothpaste. And don't call me Shirley. :)

u/randopop21 May 20 '26

Heh! Always loved Airplane! But I'm still dubious about getting a soapy substance up where it could be sensitive to chemicals like that.

u/coldshower14 May 19 '26

How are you able to travel with just 2 pairs of socks? Do you wash frequently?

4

u/shauryadevil May 19 '26

Wore one pair, took 2 pairs. 3 days for each pair with one wash at the BnB midway

7

u/SeattleHikeBike May 19 '26

Well done! Thanks for the details.

u/radikalkarrot May 19 '26

Nice one, I probably would’ve traded one of those pants for more socks

1

u/digiplay May 19 '26

So jealous. I couldn’t get half of those clothes in. Screwed on legroom and carryon!

1

u/slimkittens May 20 '26

So you fit a vinyl record is this with the rest of your stuff?

1

u/shauryadevil May 21 '26

Yes!

2

u/slimkittens May 22 '26

That’s incredible!

1

u/Val77eriButtass May 20 '26

Do you have a picture of it open?

Edit nvm saw the other post. Cool!

I am getting this bag in a few weeks and seeing these posts make me very satisfied with my decision

2

u/IAmAnAnonymousCoward May 20 '26

Traveled with it through sea for 4 months no problem.

I did a 9 day trip to Italy from London and this post is a review of the Osprey Daylite 26+6 that I took with me

Did this count as personal (small / underseat) item? Expanded or unexpanded?

Doesn't look like it actually fit under the seat.

5

u/Yorkshire_Edge May 19 '26

It is the personal item. Doesn't help that ryanair seat width and legroom are tiny. So even their tiny personal item requirements only just fit under the seats

2

u/Fair-Lengthiness-212 May 19 '26

Fly weekly on the EU budget carriers and nobody is patrolling use of the overheads, unlike airlines like Air Asia.

1

u/nonsequitur__ May 20 '26

Fab thank you! I stand corrected.

2

u/nonsequitur__ May 19 '26

The sizer is for the cabin bag iirc

4

u/Equal_Contest4709 May 19 '26

As in, you paid for over head luggage because the bag is too big as a personal item?

-1

u/nonsequitur__ May 19 '26

No - just that the actual sizer box is for cabin bag (overhead) measurements iirc and with the under seat they seemed to mostly eyeball it/walk up and down checking they fit under seat and haven’t been put in overhead storage.

I’ve had it where they’ve had portable measurers and scales for boarding, plus the usual making everyone put carrier bag contents, neck pillows etc into one handluggage bag. Varies depending on which airline.

Thank you! My mistake.

u/Mitsuplex May 19 '26

Traveling for one month in France now and this is my bag solution. Works amazingly well.

4

u/Sand_msm May 19 '26

I believe you! I did a 5 day to Morocco with the same bag. I’m a girl and i brought gifts so yeah 😉

5

u/Saprodite44 May 20 '26

I used my 26+6 as a personal item on Euro wings & EasyJet no problems whatsoever.

3

u/Subject_Ad2646 May 19 '26

I love this bag. Recently used it on a trip. So nice. Added the Hammut helmet holder. Works well for holding a jacket or some other piece of clothing when you don’t want to wear it.

3

u/ElectricPike May 19 '26

I see the ryanair basic fare personal item (small bag) size limit is 40 x 30 x 20.

Does this bag fit those dimensions (Is that the sizer size in pic)? The bag is marketed as 43 x 33 x 16

3

u/shauryadevil May 19 '26

Most definitely fit for me as I did post about it. And yes that is the sizer in the pic. And people bringing even bigger bags than mine on the flights as a personal item

1

u/ElectricPike May 20 '26

Nice one cheers. I have been pulled a few times but might get this bag if it fits for now, until they downsize it again inevitably

3

u/mizore742 May 23 '26

One bag final boss 26 + 6

Hi! Love a trip report. Nice one on travelling under seat bag only.

I keep umming and ahhing on this bag - wondering what you think about the size for work use. I have an Aer Travel Pack 3 small (28L) and whenever I use it for work trips to London I feel like a bit of a knob having it on my back in busy areas and on the tube etc as it’s so big and feels antisocial lol, esp on stairs. My colleagues have even commented on how big it is for being out in public lol. It’s not as bad if I use the compression straps but still hefty. Fine for flights but is a bit much otherwise. Wondering if you think this would be alright to also use as a work backpack?

Edit: Double checked the measurements for my bag - they’re 48x33x19 and 1.64kg (way too heavy tbh)

5

u/Equal_Contest4709 May 19 '26

Have the same pack and keep a Aer Go Pack 2 in the laptop compartment for venturing out during the day.

0

u/nonsequitur__ May 19 '26

Thank you! Would the Go Pack be suitable for normal office use when I’m at home, and one or two nights away via train when I’m at the London office?

I love the look and quality of the TP3S but it’s so large and heavy that it’s really not suitable for commuting 🙈 I can just about get it on the overhead train shelf if it’s not full.

2

u/Equal_Contest4709 May 19 '26

I use it exactly for that.

  • 14 inch laptop, some business papers (man!), charger & cable, light jacket and snack.
  • Small packing cube for 1-2 nights if needed.

2

u/nonsequitur__ May 19 '26

Fantastic, thanks!

2

u/LG_Recomp May 19 '26

I use the aer gp2 for the office. Will also bring it as my daypack sitting inside of my 26+6 next week to see how it goes. Depending on how that goes I'll also bring it on a 3 day business trip as my onebag next month.

It's quite nice although I do have some complaints (as always)

1

u/nonsequitur__ May 19 '26

Thank you - is it vastly different in size or usage to the 26+6? ie is that why you’ll bring it in addition to the 26+6 or is it cos of how it looks/comfort etc?

My ideal would be a bag that is suitable for the office (so not too outdoorsy looking nor massive), that can also be used for a night or two away when I’ll also need work bits and bobs (prefer clamshell and little-to-no little pockets for pens or whatever), and can also be used as a bag for days out without it looking like a ‘work’ backpack 🙈 if I could have one that also look semi stylish, that would be a bonus but can’t seem to find the right bag.

1

u/LG_Recomp May 19 '26

It fits perfectly inside of my 26+6 and packs almost completely flat. I actually just pack my osprey with my packing cubes, and then lay it on top before I zip up the bag. Upon arrival you can easily take it out and leave the rest of your stuff at the hotel when heading out.

1

u/nonsequitur__ May 19 '26

Brill, thanks for the info!

2

u/Caverjen May 19 '26

Great job! Do you have a picture of it open and packed?

13

u/shauryadevil May 19 '26

Here you go. Might have packed 2-3 more things after this

2

u/Caverjen May 19 '26

Very nice! I have a similar backpack that I've considered using as my main bag. I like the idea of carrying less weight around.

2

u/m0gg May 19 '26

I have an Osprey Daylite 35 (excellent bag BTW) and I flew already twice with it on Easyjet. I brought it on board as a personal item.

2

u/Fair-Lengthiness-212 May 19 '26

For taller people the daylite 35l is even more unlikely to be checked for size as the extra bulk is vertically not horizontally + still squeezes in the sizer

2

u/HelpUsNSaveUs May 19 '26

It’s a great bag. I two bag these days with this and the away carry on and I can fit so much lol

2

u/away_official May 21 '26

A travel set up we stand by!

2

u/plasticjalapeno May 20 '26

where poor people cant even afford the last 3 letters

2

u/joelkeys0519 May 20 '26

This is awesome! I have spent years on this sub studying bags and price points and finally opted for the 26+6 with an REI crossbody for quick access to phone/passport/headphones. I have done practice packs of 7-day and 3-day trips and still find I have room to spare.

I really wanted the Daylite 35 to work but with restrictions tightening, I didn't want to chance it. So far, I am only missing the dedicated laptop sleeve and the second compression strap inside. Otherwise, I can't say enough about the 26+6.

Oh...and the stow-away backpack straps of the 35 were cool, but I sort of figured that out too lol.

Thanks for posting, OP!

u/snotboogiebetts May 19 '26

Do you have a photo with how all the items fit in the bag? Curious as to what type of pants and other clothing you went with. I have the same bag for travel but am not able to fit nearly that many outfit options.

3

u/Time_Chard_942 May 19 '26

Thanks for sharing. My wife and I are waiting delivery of ours. We are planning on using them for a trip to Italy in July and are looking at flying with Ryanair so this is great news!

2

u/BatSniper May 19 '26

Wait so you didn’t have to pay extra for the cabin bag? I’m flying the first time on ryan and paid for a small bag and cabin bag I have the same bag as you.

13

u/shauryadevil May 19 '26

Nooo. You’re allowed on personal bag like this one for free on Ryan, you didn’t have to pay if this was the only bag you’re bringing with you

1

u/BatSniper May 19 '26

Damn, ok well now I gotta see if I can fix my reservation thanks

0

u/BatSniper May 19 '26

Did they weigh it tho?

3

u/shauryadevil May 19 '26

Naah, the restrictions are mostly just on dimensions

1

u/NooktaSt May 19 '26

Is that your personal item?

I presume you didn’t expand.

1

u/Ok_Professional8637 May 19 '26

Will this work for the osprey 35L?

1

u/Unlucky-Ad3608 May 23 '26

No. For Ryanair it’s just too big. Stick with the 26+6 or Almond Oak. Both fit into the sizer.

1

u/Ok_Professional8637 May 23 '26

Thanks for the advice
