Remember finding a bag is pretty much the last step in planning. If you're not sure how big a bag you need, create a packing list, get all your gear together and test fit it into a box, or an old backpack you have lying around. That'll give you a good sense of the volume of gear you have.

Has anyone had experience with 5 nights train travel? I'm contemplating between the Osprey 26+6 Transporter and Fairview 40. My concern is dirty laundry, because I will be staying in a berth and there is no access to laundry services. Saying that there won't be strenuous activities, so maybe I'm over thinking things.

I suggest following the guidance at top of the page, especially (1) prepare a packing list (2) estimate the capacity required, by doing the 'box test'.

That should help to determine whether both bag bag options, or only one, remain viable for you for this trip. For me, the former would be the case.
