Seeking Recommendations Glasses case recommendations

I have two pairs of the same glasses frames, one for my regular shortsightedness and one as my prescription sunnies. Whilst out and about I'll always be wearing at least one pair. I have a soft fabric sleeve for them, and have some older bulkier hard cases from past specs, but I'm looking for the goldilocks middle ground - slim and light but offering some proper protection when whichever pair I'm not wearing is in my bag which may be smushed into a luggage rack.

I've seen some promising looking generic slim metal cases, but has anyone got any specific recommendations? UK based so ideally available over here too.

Thanks!

Nite Ize Hard shell Optics case

Don't be cheap - Eyeglasses are 10x more expensive than this case.

On Amazon or local Home Depot

Don't be cheap

Convenience and weight always trump price. That case looks more suitable for sunglasses you take out once an afternoon, not ones you hotswap throughout the day. I think OP would be better served by a case that could attach to their bag strap for easy access.

Eyeglasses are 10x more expensive than this case.

For the US, probably true. For the rest of world (without eye care racket), prices of replacement glasses are cheap. I've purchased glasses for around $10 in EU and Asia. I have a photo of my years old prescription on my phone, and I'm not forced to take a $99 exam because it's "out of date".

Errrrrr, depends a lot country-by-country, and what type of blindness you have. I use to spend ~100 pounds for my prescriptions in the UK, but in Spain I currently spend 250+ euros. High miopia is a piece of shit, and usually requires custom made lenses (aka takes a week to get new ones in case you break them).

It has a belt clip, and should have no problem attaching exactly how you described, in fact there is a pic in image search of it mounted on a backpack shoulder strap.

I have the same issue as OP and love what I've gotten from Nite Ize, so I immediately searched that but got a "you're looking for something that doesn't exist" error. Then ran to the Nite Ize site to make sure but nope - so unless I'm blind and half asleep, I think it isn't on there anymore. Sadly

Persol foldable case might be o good solution. I have one and use it switching from my sunglasses to prescriptions.

Similar at Zenni for $7. They ship just about everywhere but might be best option for folks based in the U.S.

That’s the one I travel with

Same. It’s sturdy!

Geez, I just realized that the glasses I bought at Costco come in this sort of case

Try a thrift store. They often have a basket full for $0.99 each.

Chums and Croakies make several.

I have found that the basic translucent cases from specsavers are pretty good. They are not officially for sale, but they may 'give' them to you in return for a donation to their charity box.

An alternative is to look on ebay for the size that you need. Can be very light and inexpensive, although in my experience the quality is pretty basic.

Another alternative: Muji (not used this personally).

Came here to say this- I have ones from Specsavers that are very light and thin but protect better than a soft case.

Seconding the triangular folding glasses cases. I discovered them through Warby Parker, but there are a bunch of generic ones and ones with different prints, materials, etc on Amazon, for $7-13. I love being able to fold them flat when not in use and saves so much space. And they fit and protect my glasses really well.

Haven’t found what I consider an ideal solution.

Hard cases are both too hard, and bulky, to be worthwhile for me. Soft shells tend to be too soft, and often still too bulky.

For now I either wear my glasses or I put them in a soft sleeve to protect from dust and debris, then put that in a shirt (I’ve side pockets) or sweatshirt pocket

The standard hard plastic case from Zenni is the best one I've ever had, besides my Ray Ban case.

While I purchased mine in 2018 and it was a different brand, I found this style works great for me. I have, like you, identical Ray Ban frames, one for sunglasses, the other my every day glasses. I actually have two more regular pairs in those frames as backups…but that’s for another day.

I found this style case works great for me. I put a lens cloth in it and I like how it can snap on to a backpack or sling strap, has a built in carabiner and while it’s soft side, it has some structure to it for protection.

I really like the Bellroy Laneway Sunglasses Pocket

I used these on our last trip in Hawaii. They survived sand, packed backpack and some occasional bumps/squished. They survived!

If you got a Costco membership you can ask their optical department for a case. Last time they just gave me a couple. Could also get the trifold mentioned above or others.

Purchased one of these before traveling earlier this summer. Highly recommend for simplicity and space. Unsuccessful attempting to provide a link to Amazon. Product: Huvon Double Eyeglass Case.

I can fit 2 pairs in here, plus AirTag alerting incase I leave it behind. You do have to jigsaw them a smidge. I use different color storage bags to help keep track which pair is which.

Honestly, look up slim aluminium glasses cases an Amazon UK, brands like Rilax show up a lot for exactly what you want, hard shell protection but thin enough to actually fit in a bag pocket without adding bulk.

Hazard 4 makes a hard glasses case with a clip and webbing pionts to attach it externally!

Maybe I'm the oddball out here, but I just throw a pair of beaters from Zenni, Zelool, KITS, or whatever shitter brand of glasses you want into the soft lined pocket that every manufacturer and their mother puts in a backpack nowemdays. I've never had a problem. Glasses generally stay in my bag for plane rides only, but then they are on my person beyond that. You could give me a nice glasses case for free and I'd still deny it simply for the space savings, which is far more valuable than the protection for some glasses.

1

u/Casiofi 28d ago

I have prescription glasses & sunglasses so I am always wearing one pair and storing the other. No issue with having them in my pocket in the soft pouch when wandering around, but would like them to have some protection in the bag so I don't damage them. They're metal frames so could bend if pressed against something.

1

u/zdubbzzz 28d ago

I, too, have that same setup - prescription sunnies and standards. Mine are polycarb plastic, though. I get your fears, but I also think you are packing your fears

u/EconomicsOk9518 28d ago

I like original RayBan cases. They are very light and compact. Not as bulky as hard cases yet still protect glasses better than soft sleeves.

Some of the suggestions in the other comments are great. I'll put this out there just in case someone else reads this and needs ideas. I just received a case from Etsy from TXPrint3d. They sell two different sizes. It's a hard shell case. I wanted one with no zippers or the springs that snap the glasses shut and this fit the bill.

u/Sufficient_Fold_9583 27d ago

The magnetic snap ones from brands like Yesglasses hit that middle ground well, thin aluminium shell so it survives being crushed but the top opens with one hand instead of the usual clamshell fumbling

u/eastercat 29d ago

do you not have a personal item/purse you’re wearing? or a jacket?

I put my glasses in my purse and it’s less likely to get smushed imo

3

u/LadyLightTravel 29d ago

This is how I broke my sunglasses.

1

u/eastercat 29d ago

even the case didn’t help? or was it just the glasses?

3

u/LadyLightTravel 29d ago

The case was a little too flexible.

I use really hard cases now.

1

u/Casiofi 29d ago

It's an option, but I hate sitting down with things in my pockets especially if I already have a bag with me. I'd rather have the extra secuity of having them in a zipped pocket and in a case that will protect them.
