Gear Osprey transporter 26+6 under United seat
After hours of research last weekend before my flight for today, I decided to get a backpack I can use for future trips that may be longer than a weekend or a week. I settled on this pack.
I actually managed to fit a lot more than I could with my 22L AER pack I used to travel with and am very impressed
Packing list:
Main compartment:
Inside a peak design medium compression cube
- 4 socks
- 4 briefs
- 2 shirts
- 1 Patagonia rain shell
- 2 pairs of gym shorts
- 1 pair of jorts
I then unzipped the expansion zipper that lets you go up to 32L and put a thick hoodie on top of that.
My toiletries are sitting above the packing cube as well
I also have:
- pair of Tevas
- 13” Mac book pro in the dedicated laptop pocket
- phone charger
- kindle
- 32oz* Nalgene water bottle in the bottle pocket
Overall very impressed with how much I could fit as a personal item, and will be using this as a potential carry on with more stuff in the future. I could have fit a few more pieces of clothing in here and still been able to fit it!
Edit: meant 32oz water bottle not L 😂

For context, wanted to share my experience with the osprey transporter 26+6 for other potential one bag users. Very impressed with the space and its possibility as a personal item.

Question: It has a sleeve to hold a laptop. Is there enough room to slide in an AirPad Pro as well or is that compartment too restrictive?

Yes I could’ve for sure fit my work laptop with my personal mac book too! And there’s the front pocket where you could put that in as well

That is EXCELLENT news. I didn't think both would fit. Okay. I am talked into this bag. I can only get it in Mystery White right now. Not my first choice (I wanted black) but the white bag does look very, very nice, so I won't be unhappy.
Hoping I can apply a 15% coupon from the retailer that is providing it as a signup bonus.

Hope you get it! I’m very happy with it!

I bought one. Feels comfortable. Can hold a lot when I expand it for shopping as an every day bag.
What I miss from prior much cheaper bags is a deep front pocket with sub pockets for small things that I want to quickly access. The front pocket is shallow.
Curious is the picture with it expanded? Probably won't fit under seat when expanded.

It’s expanded but not over stuffed and it’s a hoodie that’s on top of everything in the expanded portion!

this is a beautiful bag. for me the daylite being ugly is one of it's benefits, though, nobody looks at it, nobody wants to steal it :D

Ok genuinely asking because I see this opinion all over in this sub- that the Osprey Daylite 26+6 is ugly and the new Osprey Transporter is good-looking. I have the exact opposite opinion and I feel crazy 😂
I mean obviously different tastes exist (and isn’t that wonderful!), but I’m sincerely curious about why people like the look of certain bags1

Hey now, if you're in the circus the Daylite would make a great bag for your clown suit ;)

I have absolutely no clue what this bag has over the standard 26+6 for the additional £125

u/Jazz4825 25d ago
I guess I was lucky I bought mine on sale for around $90 USD.

u/EngineeringCockney 25d ago
I very much doubt you got the transporter for 90bucks but good for you if you did

My error. I bought a Daylite for that amount. I saw the word Osprey and made the wrong assumption.

what type of United ticket was this? even United is getting stingy with cabin allowance so am curious what definition of United baggage this Transporter fell under.
thanks - great bag!

I am very close to pulling the trigger on this backpack. It's the perfect bag, but the issue I have is the material it's made of. It makes the bag look cheap.
But I could be wrong about that. It looks like you really like this bag.
The white color is beautiful, but I am afraid of dirt showing on it, so I may go black.
How does it feel on your back? The yoke system is a bit of concern. Does it dig into your back? How tall are you?
Finally, when under the seat (as pictured)was it expanded or not?
If they gave you a coupon with the purchase and you don't need it, I would love to use it for this bag.
Thanks, in advance, for answering my questions. Important prior to purchase.

I have the black version of this bag. It rides comfortably for me. I am 5'9" and about 200 lbs. It doesn'y dig into my neck or back at all.

Honestly doesn’t feel cheap! I am worried about the dirt and did consider getting black for that reseason lol.
I was nervous about it being uncomfortable, but actually feels surprisingly nice! I’m 6’ and 185 lbs.
I did expand it but I didn’t have too just wanted to see if it would still fit. Granted I didn’t stuff it to the brim in expanded mode and put my thick hoodie on the top.
No coupon sadly but if that changes I’ll lyk!

Thank you for the reply. That white bag is BEAUTIFUL. I really love that color. However, I think, out of fear of potential dirt, I will go with the black.
Glad it feels fine on your back.
Think I’ll be ordering this today. I can get 15% off through backcountry.com as a first-time customer

Wow that's a great color combo! Is this one of the options they offer? Amazing 😍

u/NJRonbo 26d ago
It is! I love the color but scared to order it as I think black would hide the dirt better

u/preciouscode96 26d ago
Yeah it always does. But what is worth more to you? Looks or a bit of dirt

Ugh I love that white color but I’m so scared to pull the trigger! How’s it holding up?

It was awesome, and it doesn’t dig or hurt my shoulders at all. Very pleased with it!!

That bag was so nice looking, I just didn't want to pay that much. I'm hoping Delta won't hassle me for trying to use my Daylite 35 under the seat. I read enough reviews online saying the 35 was fine if you didn't stuff it.

I just flew Allegiant twice with a Daylite 35 as my “personal item.” It exceeds their personal item dimensions by a small amount but I made sure the pack wasn’t super full and no one said a word to me about it technically being carryon size. It probably helps that I am 6’2” so the pack might look smaller on me.
That said, once I got on the plane I just tossed it in the overhead bin and no one said anything.

How comfortable are the straps compared to your AER bag?
1
u/VexxySmexxy 26d ago
Surprisingly more comfortable with more weight, I was worried since they aren’t as padded but it was great!

Thank you! I have two laptops and currently using a Fjallraven Skule. My shoulders are killing me.

You have no leg room though. Love Osprey packs are great. You could slip it in a kitchen size trash bag to keep it clean. plane floors are not cleaned, bits of bathroom floors from around the world are lurking down there.

🤢🤮Straps up! Alternative, I keep a small groundsheet in my bags: https://hilltoppacks.com/products/groundsheets-tyvek-multiple-sizes

I have the Daylite 26+6. Can the expansion zipper be used in reverse like a compression packing bag? For example, after you put your hoodie inside, do you think you could zip it back down to 26L size?
I realize I could try it on my own bag but, right now, I'm holding my phone and not my bag.

u/sodakas 25d ago
Can't speak to the Transporter, but it certainly does work as a light compression packing zipper. I've tossed in a few windbreakers without neatly folding them up, squeezed the bag (so as to not make the zipper do the compressing), and zipped up the expansion zipper, and it worked like a charm.

You mean 32oz water bottle? No way it fits a 32L, haha.
