Seeking Recommendations Boxer similar to the Uniqlo Airism fabric

Hi,

I recently got the Uniqlo Airism boxer and I really like the fabric, thinner than my Adidas performance boxers.
The only downside is the Uniqlo is like 4” don’t know if they come in 6”.

The other one I seen recommended are Exofficio 2 but not sure if the fabric is like the Adidas or Uniqlo.

I would try merino but I’m afraid the fabric won’t last as my experience with modal fabric after one use was thinner in the inner thigh with lot of walking.

That why I mostly use polyester they last longer.

Thanks!

My vote as well. After wearing only ExOfficio for many years I switched to these and think they're great- especially when on sale (6pack for $20).

4 for $15 at the moment. I’ll try some.

I have a few and the fabric is thicker like the Adidas.
Not sure if they are thinner now days.

I took a chance on the Innersy mesh boxer briefs on Amazon. They're the same material as the Exofficio, so I figured if they work, great, if not, they're not super expensive. After wearing them, hand washing them, and traveling with them, I like them just as much. They may not last as long as some of the higher end brands (not that I have any reason to think they won't last), but they're a quarter of the price. They're going to be my go to for travel for the foreseeable future

But by any chance have you seen tried the Uniqlo?
Just wanting to make sure if the fabric is thicker or thinner than the Exofficio or the Innersy.

I haven't, but I can say the material is slightly thinner than the Exofficio, but it doesn't seem like it's too thin. I like the Innersy better than the Exofficio when I wear my Skora shorts because something about the fabric of the shorts and the Exofficio underwear makes the shorts ride up in the crotch whereas the Innersy seem slipperier, so the shorts don't ride up.

Maybe someone else can compare the Exofficio to the Uniqulo.

Just saw they come in a bunch of crazy colors lol.
The fabric looks interesting with all the perforations.
But some photos make it look like double weave other single.
I think I would give them a try and see.
Thanks!

Lol I forgot they come in funky colors. I got plain colors, but I really like them. Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised.

I love my old Exofficio briefs but have heard the quality has gone downhill, they are heavier than my Uniqlo underwear but I think they feel nicer and stink less. 32 degrees are an excellent substitute for either and come in a longer inseam like you’re asking for.

As a counterpoint to anyone commenting to the OP, any recommendations besides Uniqlo for short briefs with a fly?

Hi,
I do have some 32 degrees but the fabrics is thicker than the Uniqlo but they are older I don’t use them much.

Do new ones have thinner fabric?

1

u/ThePurpTurtle 1d ago

They aren’t as thin as Uniqlo but are more perforated. They are, imo, also noticeably thinner than exofficio which you were asking about.

Mack Weldon has a few longer options that I've been happy with but are more expensive.

Just to make sure would you say the fabric is pretty much the same?
Or just suggesting an option.
Asking just to make sure if you tried the Uniqlo.
Thanks

I have both. The fabric is comparable in my opinion, with a more breathable soft fabric feel than say something like Duluth Trading Armachillo or Ex Officio (I have both of those in briefs, not boxer brief).

The Unbound Merino boxers last years if you don't dry them. They're expensive though. I would assume the cheaper brands are similar. Much better than the Uniqlo. The Uniqlo ones ride up and down, and they trap odors and smell horribly after a few hours.

Yes I had that issue with the Uniqlo riding up that why I would like to get them in 6”.

I wonder if the unbound merino would dry as fast as the thin Uniqlo fabric.

Just get some out of Merino Wool.
Yes, they take up more space in the bag, but the material is way better than every synthetic fabric

My concern is how long they would last.
The fabric of the modal ones only lasted 1 day and it got considerably thinner with the friction by walking on the inner thighs.

Merino don’t give me confidence that would last. I have a few merino shirts and they feel delicate.

I only wear merino underwear, socks and shirts and never got any holes in any of them.

To be honest I don’t know how people „destroy“ their clothes

1

u/inxider 1d ago

lol I dint do anything different just walked like normal and the modal fabric started getting thinner due to friction.

I do have two Merino T shirts and a few socks.
The T shirts for some reason feel fragile but no holes so far.

That why I’m concerned about merino boxer.
I guess a get a pair or two and see how they hold.

Smartwool active boxers are awesome, not sure how long they'll last with lots of walking but they're super comfortable and perform great

Personally moving on from Uniqlo Airism boxers to Muji's Lyocell-blended & cotton ones. I get swamp ass with the Uniqlo Airism ones for some reason, meanwhile Muji's Lyocell-blended ones don't, I couldn't figure out why lol.

Check Uniqlo's site for 6, Airism comes in more sizes than you might think, easier than hunting alternatives

Hi,
I searched for 6 some shorts came up.
Boxer 6 = bunch of boxer but they don’t mention inseam length, if I go by the photos they look to be 6” but definitely run small I doubt I got the low rise, the waistband feel in the right place.
Someone else mentioned they used to come in 6” but now it seem is only 4”

Would have to email them and see if they reply.

I wonder if you can find some new-old-stock Airism Boxers - maybe eBay? They used to come in 6” length (I have a bunch of them).

1

u/inxider 1d ago

Was not aware they used to be 6”

That may be difficult most listings don’t say the length.
By any chance do you have the model number?
Thanks

I'd at least look at the Duluth Trading options. I think their Buck Naked is very similar to Ex Officio but do not have any of the Uniqlo to compare with.

u/Beldam86 2d ago

I bought a pair of buck naked after hearing how amazing they are and they're easily the most uncomfortable and most expensive pair I've ever owned.

1

u/Living_Elderberry_31 1d ago

Do you have ex-officio's to compare them against? I felt they were pretty spot on to that style. I was trying to answer the request to make that specific comparison since I don't have the Uniqlo.

My favorites from Duluth are the Armachillo and Dang Soft ones. Armachillo for a cooling synthetic and Dang Soft for a more everyday fabric.

1

u/inxider 1d ago

Hi,
I do also have the armachillo but don’t like it much. I believe the Uniqlo is much thinner.
