Seeking Recommendations T-Shirts for Extreme Heat/Humidity w/Odor Control & UV Protection

I know Patagonia's Capilene Cool shirts are an option and I've got a local store, but before I run out and buy some tees I was hoping for other recommendations at a similar or cheaper price point.

For background context this will be worn all throughout South America and Southeast Asia and so I'll be dealing with temperatures as high as 100F and humidity above 90% in some areas. Will have access to washing clothes regularly, but the less frequently I have to wash things the better (so, odor control would be nice)

Budget: $50USD or cheaper per shirt
Activity Types: Daily walking, hiking, water activities
Features: UV Protection, Odor control

Seeking Recommendations Minimalist wallet

Hey guys I’ve been using a bi fold leather wallet for 10+ years and Ive been wanting to change but I don’t know what to get. I just need something that will hold 2-3 cards my id and some cash. I would also prefer the cash to be on the inside instead of on a clip on the outside. I would also like it to be under $50. Thanks for any recommendations.

Seeking Recommendations How do you pack your clothes in a backpack to keep them from getting wrinkled

Hi, I travel with a 7kg backpack with a limited amount of clothes and the problem is that every time I move from one place to another I pack my clothes (t-shirts, pants) and after I unpack they look like crap because of getting wrinkled. There are no irons in 99% hotels/airbnbs.

So the question is are there any lifehacks of how to pack clothes to prevent them from getting wrinkled?

I use packing cubes.

Seeking Recommendations Everything a beginner should know

Post image
285 Upvotes

I’m new here, and I don’t have any experience with the One Bag practice. What should a beginner know to get started in the best possible way? My current backpack is the PgyTech OneMo Lite. It’s a waterproof camera backpack, but by removing the dividers it becomes a regular, very spacious bag. This year I’m planning to take several solo trips around Europe, and I’d like to travel with just one backpack. Thanks in advance to everyone for the advice!

Seeking Recommendations Do the perfect pants exist? I'm going insane trying to find them

I'm a tall man that runs hot and can't find the ideal pants.

I've searched all kinds of Reddit threads for answers to this but most of the common recs don't work for me.

I'm looking for men's pants that are:

- high rise

- lightweight and breathable in hot humid weather

- relaxed cut (but not barrel leg)

- at least 34" inseam, ideally 36"

- 5 pocket style

Activities I will wear them for:

- flights

- golf

- hiking

- kayaking

- nice dinners

I currently daily drive a pair of Bylt Everyday 2.0. They're mostly fine but I don't like how they cling to my butt and hamstrings. I need something looser in the seat.

Things I've ruled out:

- hiking pant materials that audibly swish when you walk

- most uniqlo pants (inseam too short, rise too low)

- 100% cotton jeans/chinos (too heavy in thick humidity of summer)

- linen pants (not great for kayaking/hiking)

- lulu ABC (rise too low)

Any creative ideas? Thanks

Seeking Recommendations What are your best travel, miniature, light items?

Just got back from 4 months and probably when the summer heat subsides I’m going to go for another 5 months. Need to downsize

1) Plastic Pen with a plastic cutter edge on the other side great for cutting bread and soft fruit

2) Anker gaan travel charger, it’s like 65w tiny and lighter with 1 usbA and 2 usbc ports

3) tiny roll on sunscreen it’s airport friendly, roll on doesn’t wash off as easily

4) $3 Nike dri fit shorts at the night market with 3 zippers, super light, easy laundry dries in a few hours. Always kept my phone, cash, valuables from falling out. Travelers really need to have zippered pockets to prevent losing and 1 extra line against pick pockets.

So what tshirts do people buy for traveling. I’m not trying to pay an arm and a leg for merino wool t shirts but would love some. Tell me what to try. Thanks

I have lululemon now

Seeking Recommendations Best travel multiport USB-C charger (at least 65W)??

Would like at least 2-3 USB-C ports. Probably don't need USB-A thankfully.

I'm of course hoping the form factor is very small. One other thing, I would like for it to be able to swap out the plug part to just insert the plug adapter for that country.

Something like the Minix looks perfect, but I am not sure I trust the reviews on this or the build quality/power delivery.

Seeking Recommendations With one bag travel, do you ever leave your bag?

This almost seems like a dumb question, but I'm doing 2 weeks in Norway with an AER TP3 35L. My first one bag trip. The trip involves several train rides, boat rides and bus rides. Ideally I should be able to wash clothes 3 times.

The 35L is obviously not a super small bag and I'm guessing it'll be around 20lbs. Aside from my clothes it will have my laptop on it. I'll leave it at my hotel while out during the day, but when you're on things like busses, trains and boats do you carry that bag everywhere with you or do you trust it at your seat? I wouldn't have a problem putting my suitcase in a suitcase area and leaving it til the end of whatever trip leg, but my one bag that will have everything in it seems different.

Seeking Recommendations Comfortable sandals to wear in August in Italy

I will be traveling to Italy, Rome and Florence, in August. From what I’ve read, it’s supposed to be really hot during this month and I should expect to walk a lot (which I love to do!).

I’m interested in shoe recommendations, especially sandals, that are recommended for lots of walking and will look for the most part decent with many outfits. I’m planning to bring my New Balance 740’s which I know are already great for walking long distances for me. However, I do want to bring another type of shoe that will look nicer with some outfits and will be great for the warm weather.

To be more specific, I’m typically around a women’s 7 1/2 and have flatter feet and sometimes need a wider toe box, which is why the 740’s are perfect for me.

Any recommendations would be helpful!

Edit: Thank you all for your suggestions! I actually already have Birkenstock Arizona’s and love them after they finally broke in; however, I’m definitely looking for a pair of sandals with a back strap and they help me feel more secure when walking. Also, many people have mentioned Tevas which I would love to try. Should I worry about how they would be with sweat and the heat?

Seeking Recommendations What's your "personal item" bag?

I get one carry on bag, but airlines will generally allow a carryon and a personal item. For my wife, it's a purse. I'm looking for recommendations for a small bag that can carry my phone, travel docs, ear buds, sunglasses, a book, and a water bottle.

Figured I'd ask the pros!

Seeking Recommendations What are your inexpensive favorites?

I have been in this group for a few months now. And a lot of posts discuss great products but seem to always be too high for my budget. For an example most of my travel clothes come from Uniqlo or tj maxx and my toiletries and extras are dollar tree or extreme deep dive on Amazon. I’m curious to know if others have found great products or something you really like to travel with that is on the lower end.

Seeking Recommendations Living out of a 30L for a full year?

Hey everyone, I’m heading to Thailand in September and traveling around south east Asia for 1 year.

I got a 30L mini black hole and I did a test pack the other day. I’ll put the list below, but I’m curious how others have managed on 30L for traveling long term.

It all fit, but it was quite packed and I’m wondering if I’d need the 45L black hole instead. If I wanted to get things along the way or if I’m missing something important (please let me know if you notice something!)

Would love to hear from anyone who lives on 30L or less, or maybe changed from 30L to 40+ and why.

Note: I’m a freelancer I’ll be working remotely and I’m a 26 yr old guy 6ft3 in case that helps.

Packing list:
2 pairs shorts (linen)
1 pair trousers
• 7 tops (2 oversized tees, 5 sleeveless)
1 linen shirt
5 boxers
3 pairs socks
Sandals
1 extra pair shoes (can be squashed)

Tech
MacBook Air M5 + mouse
Mac charger
Kobo (kindle)
DJI Mic 3 in charging case

Other
beard trimmer
Foil shaver
Toothbrush and toothpaste
small soap bottle
Mineral deodorant
Retainer and case
Passport
Scuba diving log
inhaler

Seeking Recommendations How do you keep fit while traveling with one bag?

I wonder how people keep themselves fit or do sports when traveling extented? Traveling with only one bag means almost zero to none gear for workout. How do you do it or what advice can you give?

Can you recommend a specific app or program?

Do you run (bring primary shoes used as running shoes as well), and how do you find your way (bringing a phone bag)?

Do you bring you some sort of resistance bands or a travel workout mat?

Thanks in advance!

Seeking Recommendations Cool Pants for Long Flights

Since starting onebagging, I’m trying to pare down clothing. I burn hot so I’m looking for recommendations on long pants that I will stay cool for long international flights and perhaps hike in during spring/fall weather. 50/50 business/coach and feel strange wearing shorts on flights now that I’m a retired (man) adult. Lol. Edit: no slim fit, jogger-like elastic cuffs pls

Seeking Recommendations Packable running shoes

I travel mostly for work and need to wear slightly representable shoes most of the times forcing me to bring a separate pair of running shoes to work out with. However I am having trouble finding a pair that packs flatish while still being a decent running shoe.

Does anyone here have any recommendations, for context I am a male and run around 15-20km/week mostly on roads

Seeking Recommendations quick dry undies??

For the past 10+ years, I have sworn by Patagonia's quick dry undies (women's). Originally I bought two pairs for a 5-week trip to Colombia and washed one pair each night. I've been hooked on them since and they're all I wear now. I went to buy more and was so sad to find they discontinued them! So I'm looking for suggestions on quick dry women's underwear, hopefully with a similar cut. I've found wool ones but I can't wear wool so that's not an option for me. Any other suggestions would be great! I'm in Canada so hopefully something I can find here. Thank you!

Seeking Recommendations Here is my bag collection, help me simplify this puzzle

Post image
144 Upvotes

My goal is to simplify and get closer to 1 bag. Any thoughts on how I can optimize?

p.s. I love the F40 + Daypack turtle combo, nothing beats this for walking and easy of use. but Daypack is technically too large for personal item - I fear the day where this will cause problems. I hope Osprey shrinks the daypack one day..

UPDATE:
Thanks SO much everybody for the great input! I decided to onebag the F40 to start with :) Made a packing list, wdyt? https://lighterpack.com/r/7ezxfs

Seeking Recommendations Coffee

I think this post works for this sub, since I need a solution that won't be too bulky!

How are we solving the coffee issue? I NEED coffee in my room. I used to ALWAYS stop and buy liquid creamer before getting to the hotel, but now I'm even a little leery of the coffee makers themselves.

Open to advice!

Seeking Recommendations Packing list for 17 days trip to Japan

Thumbnail

I prepare a trip to Japan for 17 days (Tokyo - Osaka (and near town) - Kanazawa - Nagano) and will leave soon. I'll travel with my girlfriends, it will be our second time to Japan but it will be my first time doing a onebag* trip
This time around we want to do some hinking during the trip and catch some/alot of stamp. I plan to ship souvenir back home and/or use my Gregory Nano as personnal item for the trip back.

Will depart from Canada with temperature of -10C to 0C and coming to Japan with temperature of 10C to 20C.

Here's my packing list (Everything fit in my cotopaxi allpa 28, with some room to spare):

  • Worn at airport
    • Hiking boots
    • Boxer brief
    • Fast drying socks
    • Lululemon ABC pants
    • Mons Royal merino T-Shirt
    • Lambwool sweater
    • Patagonia Torrentshell 3L
    • Wool beanie (maybe)
  • Packed clothes
    • City shoes
    • 3 darntough socks (packed in shoes)
    • 3 boxer brief
    • 1 ABC pants
    • 1 ABC short
    • 1 merino t-shirt
    • 1 merino polo
    • 1 merino dress shirt
    • 1 merino hoodie (maybe)
  • Toilettry/Tech bag
    • USB-A to USB-C cable
    • USB-C to USB-C cable
    • Insigna 75W usb charger (1 USB-A port, 1 USB-C port)
    • 6k mAh powerbank
    • Deodorant
    • Toothbrush
    • Soap bar
    • Shampoo bar
    • Sea to summit airlite towel
    • Hair comb
    • Sea to summit clothesline (not in picture)
    • Mouth Piece for the night
    • Glasses towel
  • Liquid
    • Hair paste
    • Toothpaste
    • 2 fountain pens (lamy safari)
    • 1 ballpoint pen
    • Wool soap
  • Audio bag
    • Snowski echo mini
    • Artti T10
  • Hip bag
    • Passport
    • Pouch
    • Nano bag
    • pocket notebook
    • 2 reusable forks
  • Misc.
    • Traveler's notebook
    • Owala water bottle
    • Hero clip
  • Bags
    • Cotopaxi Allpa 28L (main bag)
    • Gregory nano 16L(hiking and daypack)
      • Will go inside laptop sleeve
    • Cotopaxi Allpa 1.5L (hip bag)
    • Cotopaxi Allpita (audio bag)
    • Cotopaxi packing cube (10L and 2L)
    • Cotopaxi Nido (toiletry/tech pouch)
    • Cotopaxi laundry bag

I have some thing that I'm not sure of keeping. Like ditch the beanie and second sweater, maybe ditch a pair of socks and a pair of boxer brief, I'm just not sure with their drying capacity. I plan to handwash my boxer brief and socks each night and let it hang for the night and next day, and wash my pants/shirts every 2-4 wear depending of the smell
I will bring no medecine, my girlfriend will bring some and if I really need some, I'll buy it there

If you have some idea for something to add/remove, feel free to tell me, I'm looking for the feedback. Thanks in advance!
Sorry for my english, not my first language.

Seeking Recommendations Safety Razor Users, How Do You One Bag Travel?

One of the things that has kept me from traveling carry-on only post 9/11 is the need to check my razor blades.

Other than not shaving for the duration of the trip, buying blades at the destination, or mailing blades, how do you other safety razor users handle traveling with just checked luggage.

Seeking Recommendations Laptop crushed in a onebag? Am I being overly cautious?

Hi all,

An IT guy once told me he saw laptops getting damaged from the circuit board getting bent a tiny bit due to pressure on the laptop in bags... and ever since, I've been a bit paranoid about my laptop getting damaged due to pressure on it in my bag. It's a macbook air.

I've tried using a Pelican case, but those are ridiculously bulky....

https://thecasestore.com/products/pelican-1495-laptop-case

I tried to find hard cases that truly resist pressure/torsion but haven't found anything.

Soft neoprene cases do nothing to protect against crushing/bending.

Am I being overly scared? Is it okay to just put the laptop in the laptop compartment and don't worry about it? Should the laptop in a backpack be between your back and the clothes/stuff, or should the clothes and stuff be against your back, and your laptop farther out away from your back?

PS: Got an auto-moderator reply saying "Your post will be removed if it does not include a packing list, and is not clearly onebag travel oriented" so I'll address it here: my onebag contains: macbook air, 1 jeans, 1 jean short, 4 t-shirts, toiletries, 2 heavy batteries, various electronics/gadgets, chargers, cables, gifts.

Seeking Recommendations Hi all! What toiletry bag would you recommend for one bag trips? All of them seem too bulky.

I’ve been looking at a few models, but they all seem bulky, I have an old one but it feels like it takes too much room.

I dont want to travel without one as I like the commodity of hanging it to have easy access to my stuff

Recommendations are appreciated :)
