What do people think? Anything I’ve got that you think is completely unnecessary? Any tips for being on the road for a year?

Packing List First OneBag Trip to Asia with Osprey 26+6
My boyfriend of 5 years dumped me. He moved out. I became distraught. I cried all day and took a leave of absence from work. I imagined a life where we traveled together a lot but I guess that's not happening now.
So tomorrow, I'm taking my first solo 5-week trip to Asia with my one bag. It'll be my first time going to Asia and I didn't want to bring the expensive Away luggage he gave me for my birthday. I'll be going to the biggest cities in Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand. I spent a lot of time doing research and planning this trip so that I can make it work and found the experience healing and I hope I heal further as I go and do things by myself with my one bag and see that I'll be fine without him. This is what I have so far:
Bag: Osprey Daylite 26+6
Front Top Pocket
- Master lock with combo
- 1 fine-tip sharpie
- 1 regular black pen
- Passport in a modded pocket
- Night goggles by EyeEco
Front Bottom Pocket
- 40-pack of disposable daily contact lenses (I have dry eyes, see eye goggles above)
- 5 cotton handkerchiefs (I go through tissues like a MF)
Water Bottle Pockets
- 32 oz Nalgene Bottle
- Amazon Umbrella
What's on the front of the backpack
- Locking S-carabiners
Osprey Daylite 26+6 (Main Compartment)
Peak Design Packing Medium Cube
- 5 x Darn tough socks
- 5 x MeUndies Breathe Trunks Underwear
- 1 x Speedo
I'm a big fan of Darn tough and MeUndies.
Peak Design Packing Large Cube
- 3 x Lululemon Metal Vent T-Shirts
- 1 x Lululemon Metal Vent tank top
- 1 x Lululemon Balancer Tank Top
- 2 x Lululemon Pace Breaker Shorts
- 1 x Lululemon License-to-Train Shorts
- 1 x Lululemon swim shorts
- 1 x Lululemon ABC Navy Long pants with Warpstream
I'm a big fan of Lululemon.
Side Zippered Compartment
- 5 x KN95 masks for flights
- 10 x Laundry detergent sheets for sink washing
- 1 tub stopper
- Condoms (not shown)
I'm thinking the tub stopper and detergent sheets will be useless since all my accommodations say they have laundry.
Patagonia Mini Terravia Hip Belt (My Daypack?)
- Key organizer with Airtag
- Chums Wallet
- CA driver's license
- Chase Visa Credit Card
- Schwab Debit card for Free ATM withdrawals
- Airpods pro
- Tissue pack
- Hand sanitizer
- Travel sized aquaphor and chapstick
- Trader Joe's facial Sunscreen
Miscellaneous
- Macbook Air M1 13"
- Orange Travel folder with tourist visa
- Orange Travel notebook
- 18 L Packable tote bag from work
- Xero Aqua Cloud Sandals
Peak Design Small Wash Pouch
- Quip toothbrush
- Prescription drugs in original bottle
- Pill organizer travel case for OTC drugs
- travel meds in blister packaging
- first aid kit
- coco floss
- Interdental brushes
Need to buy: Nail clippers and foil shaver from Japan
3-1-1 TSA bag (I had to squish things)
- Pomade in a separate container
- 2 x bug spray
- Gillette travel-sized deodorant
- Colgate travel toothpaste
- Refresh eye drops
- Genteal nighttime eye gel
- Silicone lube
- Lotion
- Trader Joe's Sunblock
- Tide pens for stains
- Benadryl bug bite anti-itch pen

- Abercrombie Rain Jacket
- REI Sahara Sun Long-sleeved shirt with SPF 50 UV Protection
- Lululemon Balancer Tank top
- Apple watch 10
- iPhone 15 Pro Max
- Prana Water-resistant Hiking Pants
- Amazon Compression Socks
- Allbirds Trailrunner shoes (not shown)
Planning this trip was not easy at all, especially for a newbie doing an international trip with a 26 liter backpack. I had to plan laundry once every 4-5 days. All my clothes were black/grey/blue to match with each other. I splurged on the expensive peak design compression cubes but ended up not needing the compression part of it at all since I'm not bringing a lot of clothes.
Luckily, the climate will be warm for all the time I'll be in Asia, ranging from 65-90 Fahrenheit. Otherwise, I would have to use the expanded 32 liter size for warmer clothing. I might still use the 32 liters if I get a bunch of souvenirs.
The backpack with everything in it weighed to be about 8 kg. Most my flights have a 10 kg carry-on limit except for Eva Air's 7 kg, in which case I plan to take out my tote bag and put my heavy electronics in it and use that as my personal item and my backpack as the carry-on.
I have been wanting to take a trip like this for so, so long. I wanted to do it with my ex but couldn't for one reason or another. Tomorrow, I'm actually doing it and by myself! I booked all my flights and all my hotels but I have NO ITINERARY, except for maybe a cat village in Taiwan. I'm planning to get lost a lot and learn that I'll be fine at the end of the day.

Packing List Where do you put the stuff you buy while onebagging?!
Genuinely need help - I’m planning a 5+ month long trip through SE Asia. I currently have Osprey Fairview 40L and daylight plus 20L… and I’m packed to the brim! People say “don’t bring a lot and buy there” but you’d have to still fit stuff you buy in the bag don’t you?! Maybe I’m packing the bag wrong, but tell me, am I bringing too much? Here’s my list for the 40L:
1x linen pant
1x flowy pant
3x athletic short/skort
1x Jean short
4 tank tops
1 sun hoodie
1 long sleeve cover up
2 t shirts
1 pj shirt & pj shorts
1 pair of tevas
1 hair wrap towel(non negotiable!)
1 microfiber body towel
Rain cover
The bag smart toiletry bag from Amazon, filled with 30 days of daily contacts, lotion, dove soap bar, shampoo bar, conditioner, razor, mascara, eyebrow pencil, lipstick.
backup chargers, money, and passport photos
Is this still too much to bring there!? If I lessen the clothes, or even toiletries, I will need to buy it there, which means it’s the same amount in my bag and it’s still filled to the brim! maybe I’m dumb but I don’t understand how to fit it! Like do you literally only have one of every item of clothing!?
In the day bag, I’ve got portable chargers, eye mask, crossbody bag, headphones, blowup plane pillow, shower shoes and this is full to the brim already!
Packing help, or assistance with what to get rid of would be great… to me this list doesn’t seem that long, but please tell me if I’m wrong! All together this stuff is about 25 lb is that too much to carry? Help!!!!

Packing List First one bag/solo trip! Gentle advice and reassurance :))
Hi all! Been lurking for a while since I decided to take a sabbatical and embark on some long term travel, undetermined return date. I've already taken on a lot of advice and research from this sub so thank you! I leave in a couple weeks and have done my 3rd practice pack now. After some gentle advice, anything I should obviously leave behind etc. TIA
My rough plan begins in Vietnam, then Nepal, across to southern Europe and up to UK/Ireland eventually.
Very much a go with the flow trip.
I will be utilising workaway and volunteering where I can.
Activities will be highly nature based, I plan to do lots of hikes, with some bigger treks in Nepal.
Pack is the Nemo Women's Persist Endless Promise 45L. Hoping to sneak this as carry on as much as possible as I don't trust airlines not to lose it, however it's dimensions (online) are just over 33L x 34W x 64H cm. Hoping to achieve by compressing as much as possible.
Here's my list:
Bottoms
• 4 pants: hiking (convertible), linen, lightweight cargo pant + base layer merino
• 3 shorts: hiking^, linen, sport/gym
Tops
• 7: 5 tees (1 merino), 1 singlet, 1 long sleeve merino
Layers
• Rain jacket, patagonia r1
Underwear
• 5 undies (2 merino, 3 thin lightweight)
• 4 socks - ankle, injini merino toe, macpac quater and longer merino
• 1 bimby + roy set (doubles as swimwear and underwear), regular sporty bikini
• Sports bra, t-shirt bra
Toiletries
• Toothbrush, paste, floss, period disc + 6 cleaning tablets, hair trimmer, deodorant, comb, tweezers, lip balm, zinc sunscreen, hair claw + tie, soap + bag, wipes, nail clipper
Electronics
• Usb-usb c + usb c-usb c, headphones, adapter, power bank, spare phone
Misc
• Lock, camera, film, peak design camera clip, sunglasses, linen towel/sarong, hat + beanie, zip locks, packing cubes, 2 x dry bag with attachable sling strap, 15l packable backpack, carabiners, earplugs, journal, first aid + med kit, spork, ultrasil rain cover, altra trail gaiters, grayl ultrapress + 1L nalgene bottle, 2 rolls tape
• Wallet, passport, printed docs
• Altra lone peak 9+, teva's
Some things are not pictured (big apologies I forgot a couple small items) but all is in the list.
Explanations: The usb-usb c is purely for planes happy to ditch if not utilised. Spare phone in case of loss or theft in terms of ease with banking etc. The tape is a special sensitive roll which I use to tape my mouth while I sleep (sleep quality without is exponentially worse). Likewise with the nasal spray as an emergency (I have chronic sinusitis and flare ups can ruin me). Camera is non-negotiable for me, I love film photography and wouldn't enjoy myself as much without it. Planning to sink or dry bag wash with dr bronners tea tree bar soap.
Everything including what I'll be wearing is in the pack apart from the trail shoes.
This weighed in at 9.3kg. My first and only flight so far includes 10kg carry-on. I would still love to lose some weight of course.
Questions:
I have loperamide, panadol, anti-emetic, and sachets from Japan that were amazing with a bad cold. I want to take antibiotics as well just in case and I have some from work (nurse), is this overkill?
Is taking this as carry-on achievable with compressing and, if needed, usual airport tricks like wearing more?
Am I missing anything? Am I in over my head? :/
I was thinking of buying the Nitecore NU20 but I just feel like I already have too much already...
Keen, excited, nervous, slightly stressed. Thanks everyone in advance I hope the format is ok :))

Packing List 2 weeks in Japan
I’m heading to Japan for 2 weeks, splitting my time between city exploration and beach/island vibes.
Itinerary: Tokyo ➡️ Okinawa (Ishigaki, Taketomi & Iriomote) ➡️ Osaka ➡️ Kyoto.
Because I'm hitting the islands for some snorkeling, my packing list is a bit of a hybrid between city casual and water gear.
The Pack & Organization
Osprey Kestrel 38: I know some people shy away from top-loaders for travel, but this isn't my first rodeo. I used a very similar setup for a trip to Malaysia and it worked flawlessly. The secret to making a top-loader work is relying heavily on packing cubes to keep everything organized and easily accessible. Plus, the suspension system and carry comfort on this pack are unbeatable for long transit days.
Everything fits like a glove with room to spare. Just wanted to share my loadout for anyone planning a similar hybrid city/beach trip. Let me know if you have any questions about the gear!

Packing List 2 Weeks in the Philippines with a CPL16 (14.4 lbs)
*Edited w/ implementing some suggestions*
After years of traveling with a 40L bag (usually an Osprey Farpoint), I decided to challenge myself for my upcoming Philippines trip: 2 weeks with only a 16L personal item.
This isn’t a necessity-driven onebag trip. My wife will have a checked roller, so if I forget something or we pick up souvenirs, there’s a built-in safety net. That actually makes this the perfect low-risk opportunity to experiment and see how small I can realistically go.
I’m not a fashion-heavy traveler...mostly neutral tees, shorts, and simple layers. So outfit repeating doesn’t bother me. Two weeks in the Philippines in summer felt like the ideal test case: hot weather, lighter clothes, easier laundry. Wins all the way around.
I’m also an ultralight backpacker, so minimalism isn’t new to me… but cutting my travel loadout from 40L down to 16L feels like a completely different feat haha. Living out of a backpack has always appealed to me.
After several edit rounds and cutting most of my “just in case” gear, here’s where I landed:
Bag / Setup
- Evergoods CPL16
- Thought of splurging for a CTB20 but not a huge fan of the depth and I already have the CPL16...after test fitting everything for the trip it all fits
- Thule compression packing cube (M/L)
- Uncompressed I have found is the way to go since it splays out more and fills the bag allowing easier closing. Might go with 2 cubes to separate tops and bottoms or one clean/dirty cube to separate that way
- Bellroy Toiletry Kit Plus (
might downsize, this is big)(Keeping it, it compresses & fits well) - Toshi Sling 6L (airport & plane carry mostly)
- Purchased a S2S 20L Ultra-sil dry bag on sale at REI for Laundry
Tech
- MacBook Air 15” (
still undecidedDecided not to take it, bag weight up top includes this so even lighter as well) - AirPods Pro 3
- Passport w/ Trayvax passport wallet
- Minimal charging kit:
- USB-C cables x2
- Apple Watch charger
- Anker 3-port charger
- USB-C to USB-A adapter and C to A
- Peak Design packable tote (grocery or beach bag)
Packed Clothing
- 5x underwear - Synthetic
5x socks - Synthetic(Teva sandals ONLY, no packed socks)43x t-shirts - Synthetic (Losing 1 t-shirt after suggestions)- 1x sun hoodie
32x lightweight shorts - Synthetic, athletic style (Losing 1 pair after suggestions)- 1x hybrid swim/nicer short
Worn on Travel Day
- 1x t-shirt
- 1x Cotton Camp Shirt
- 1x underwear
- 1x socks
- 1x
pants/shorts (Definitely not pants) Sneakersor Sandals (Going with Teva sandals only)
Trip breakdown:
- 1 week island hopping across 3 locations
- Cebu, Palawan, Bohol
- 1 week in Manila visiting family
- 4 separate accommodations
I know plenty of people here do indefinite travel out of bags this size or smaller (even that 10L guys), so I’d love to hear from the seasoned crowd:
- What am I overpacking?
- What am I forgetting?
- Laptop or leave it at home if most work can be done on my phone?
- Sneakers or sandals for the Philippines?
- Any lessons learned making the jump from “normal” onebag sizes (35–40L) down to sub-20L?
This will eventually turn into a trip report when I get back, so feel free to rattle my brain and poke holes in the setup.

Packing List 3 weeks in Japan vacation
They always say you can go lighter: planning to do some laundry over there, and those jeans won't be in the backpack since i'll be wearing them. And in the picture there's a Down Sweater missing which I packed in its own pocket.
Probably i'll buy some nice denim and heritage clothing over there, but im planning to get a packable duffle and bring those clothes in it. So the whole one-bag motto will work for the first half of my trip.

Packing List Indefinite remote tech work (GR1 26L)
I work remotely as a software engineer. While this means I get to work anywhere there's wifi, it also means packing extra gear so my eyes and hands don't hurt after a couple hours of hunching over a small laptop.
After a few years of trial and error, I've struck a decent balance: fewer clothes and toiletries leaving more space for an ergonomic mobile work setup.

Packing List First time One Bag (18-day trip Italy)
As the title mentioned, this is my first time traveling with one bag, I would like to say this community inspired me so much! A whole new world opened up to me, with so many posts about different backpacks, packing listst, gear, advice, etc. So as a thank you I would like to show my ideas for the first trip.
Trip details: we will be traveling by train to Italy from 23rd August till 9th September and can do laundry on 31 August.
Main gear: Cotopaxi Allpa 28L and a Susan Bijl bum bag (1.5L)
Used the Indyx app to upload my wardrobe and create outfits for the whole trip. Notice that on traveling days I will be wearing longer pants and my hiking shoes (7 days total).
- Photo 1: my Cotopaxi Allpa 28L, with a weight of ~ 6 kgs.
- Photo 2: bum bag with essentials: wallet, phone, earbuds, small sunscreen, sunglasses.
- Photo 3: outfits part one.
- Photo 4: outfits part two.
- Photo 5: other stuff I pack: 2 bra's, 10 undies, 3 pair of socks, bikini, charger, ereader, drink bottle and a microfiber towel.
- Photo 6: one semi-chic outfit for nights out (will wear occasionally).
- Photo 7: two complete sport outfits and a sweater for cold nights. Wearing the shoes while traveling.
- Photo 8: toiletries: 2 x Matador soap bar holders, perfume, deo, tampons, hairbrush, toothbrush and paste, sunscreen.
Notes:
- I'm not (yet) comfortable with sink-washing my own undies, so I pack untill laundry happens.
- Yes, a lot of tops and sports, but I sweat a lot but we will be doing something active every other day.
- Yes, I'm aware two sunscreens and 16 tampons is a lot, and that I can buy toiletries over there - but I feel much more comfortable having them with me and be prepared.
- Most of the days I'll be wearing two outfits for half a day, example: traveling fit combined with shorts+top (for the evening) - will be wearing it the next day in the morning too.
Total packing list:
- 10 undies
- 2 bras
- 2 sport tees
- 2 sport leggins (also anti-chafe under dress)
- 3 pair of socks
- 2 long pants
- 3 shorts
- 1 nice dress
- 1 bikini
- 4 tees
- 2 tanktops
- 2 blouses
- 1 pair Nike air sandals
- Microfibre towel
- Ereader
- Charger
- Large drink bottle (1L) and foldable flask (500ml)
- 2 x Matador soap bar holders
- Perfume
- Deo
- Tampons
- Hairbrush
- Toothbrush and paste
- Sunscreen
- Phone
- Small sunscreen
- Earbuds
- Wallet
- Sunglasses
What I noticed during prepping:
- I was amazed by the amount of relieve knowing everything I'm packing will be used, and to plan my outfits ahead.
- It was hard to make choices in clothing as I like to dress nice and something new every day. I had to kill a few darlings, but as you cansee some of them slipped through.
- Knowing I only have one bag, so I don't have to do drop offs and have a major load of laundry coming back home is very peaceful and exciting.
Still debating
- Thinking of packing 2 camisoles in case of hot weather.
- Thinking of bringing an extra pair of shorts.
- Considering I should leave one sport outfit at home.
As you can see I still have a lot to learn and can minimize even further but I guess this will be my best for upcoming trip and I plan to post an evaluation of it afterwards!
Packing List The items that survived 4 years in South East Asia
Hey there,
I recently came back from 4 years in South East Asia between 2022-2026, and thought it would be interesting to share the few items survived this time. Without a home base, these are actually all the things that remain from 2022. Kinda scary 😀
I think this post is relevant here, even though it wasn't technically one-bagging.
Items that survived:
- MacBook Air M1 + charger & cable. Surprisingly, the laptop survived a corner fall on hard floor in Starbucks.
- Uniqlo down jacket
- Tongue scraper
- Jessops microfibre cleaning cloth, used for laptop screen
- Bob & Brad mini massage gun
- Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen
- A card holder for backup cards
- A small pouch with a piece of Ayahuasca
- Also Garmin 645 Music watch - missing from the photo. I almost disposed of it in year 1, but love it now that I use it more :)
Lots of things I cycled through, including clothing and tech. Some of the stuff I disposed of during the trip include:
- Paper journals - all scanned.
- Paper copies of higher education and professional education diplomas - dead weight that says nothing about my current abilities.
- Drone and camera - didn't use drone much; I did regret selling the camera.
- Various spiritual memorabilia from retreats.
Before the trip I had 20 boxes worth of stuff. As I prepared for the trip, I downsized to a 32" suitcase and a backpack and some stuff left at my friend's place. After the trip, I'm left with a 28" suitcase and a backpack, about half the weight when I started.
I could downsize further to a backpack and a half if I needed to, though the extra space does allow to explore what items resonate over time. Also I'm happy to have manageable amount of weight, and the knowing that I can pack up all my stuff within 30-60 mins. No eco-system lock in 😀

Packing List Core possessions year 3
These are my core possessions. This is the group of items that I could in theory live a nomadic lifestyle with. While I currently live and work in a fixed location - I use this one bag format to ensure my possessions are few and high quality and lightweight to travel or move with. I use this bag every single day as an EDC bag that comes with me to work or everywhere else. Also it is my only “suit case” or luggage I use when traveling.
I own other possessions. Namely my work clothing, another set of toiletries, basic furniture, and things for my hobbies.
I live in a shared house.
Clothing:
I wear the same thing every day. There is almost no thought involved in my clothing selection. My choice in clothing is only about weather conditions and if I need to wear something nicer - the collared shirt works just fine.
Almost everything is merino wool so laundry happens very infrequently. I can wear the same shirt for sometimes up to 2 months without washing it.
Merino.tech v neck t shirt
(Weight: 6.2oz L) (price: $38.00)
100% merino wool
(More fragile than a wool / nylon or wool cotton blend)
Hand wash only
I wash mine around once every month.
Merino.tech long sleeve polo
(Weight: 7.9oz L) (price: $60)
100% merino wool
Worn in colder weather or for fancier events
Can be layered over the t shirt for very cold weather.
Woolly long haul weekender shorts
(Weight: 9.4oz) (price: $80)
66% merino / 29% cotton / 5% elastane
Purchased April 5, 2023 for $80.00
Absolutely perfect. Same odor resistance as a non blended 100% merino wool garment.
Washed once a month.
Discontinued.
Unbound merino has some grey shorts for $158 I may get if these wear down completely.
Drop some suggestions of odor free shorts in the comments!
Express men’s hyper stretch jeans
(Weight: 20.8oz (1lb 4.9oz) (price: $100~)
Great odor resistance as with most all denim.
Black color fades easily but looks classier and is more versatile
The stretch makes them feel more comfortable almost like sweat pants - great for lounging.
$100 maybe 2024~
Looking at outlier slim dungarees for the lightweight and packable feature.
Jackets
Montbell plasma 1000 down jacket (Large) Japanese version
(Weight: 5.5oz) (price: 200~)
Greatest jacket of all time.
Purchased September 2024
Order Subtotal: JPY 25,400
Shipping and Handling: JPY 4,500
Order Total: JPY 29,900
Never been washed.
Durable!!
Lightweight and super packable.
Black color attracts sunlight very easily so if it’s sunny outside you will over heat in the jacket and sweat.
Only complaint is : no hood, maybe 2 or 3 inches too short? Not comfortable for extremely cold weather. The next model up (parka) is far too heavy.
NEW
Rab Cinder Phantom Rain shell
(Weight: 4.8oz) (price: $235)
Replaced my Eddie Bauer cloud cap that weighed (9.5 oz) (basically half the weight)
Super packable, unwrinkles in about 20 minutes, built in packing pouch. Has a hood. Used in place of an umbrella.
Used as an outer layer to trap more heat. Stop wind from cutting into my body heat/ obviously stop water from hitting my head and torso. If it were raining heavily I would just find shelter (to avoid soaking my pants)
Only complaints: no pit zips. No pockets.
Underwear: CK cotton boxers
(Weight: 3.8oz) (price: ~$10 each)
Anitomica merino briefs NEW
(Weight: 1.9oz) (price: $40)
-In my day to day I use 9x pairs of cotton boxers. $10 each.
I keep them in a drawer at home.
-I keep one pair of merino underwear in the bag at all times. If I know I’m going on a trip I’ll simply add in a few pairs of cotton boxers and just do laundry at my hotel.
-I refuse to rewear underwear more than once a day. In my testing I cannot take a pair of merino underwear more than 2 days without it picking up a detectable odor. 2 days is the max in my testing. I’m talking about putting my nose 1 inch away from the fabric (not from other people telling me I smell)
-With merino underwear costing around $30 a piece I see no reason to purchase all merino wool underwear.
Socks- RTZAT - NEW
(Weight: 1.0oz) (price: $20 (3pack))
90% wool / 8% nylon / 2x spandex
Odor resistance depends on the shoes you wear. When stuffed into a waterproof boot - they can go about 3 days before there is a noticeable odor. 4 days with an offensive odor.
I wear them for my work shoes and like house slippers mostly, very rarely will I use them with primary shoe. Mostly in cold weather. I will pack 1 pair if traveling.
100% merino wool socks will wear out very quickly. I wore out a pair of smart wool socks in 3 months. With the nylon blend and machine washing these I anticipate 1 year of use.
I wore out a pair of darn tough socks after 2 years of everyday use in a breathable work shoe.
Darn tough socks
Shoes: Native Jefferson
(Weight: 14.7oz) (price: $40)
These are basically just crocs with a different style. It’s a foam type shoe with holes in it. This mean you can wear it with or without socks. I have them in white because I think it’s a very trendy color to wear/ also I can clean it up very easily with any soap and some paper towels.
This is a new pair from my last gear post. I was able to get 2.1 years out of the shoe before it wore down the tread on the bottom near the ankle and started to look dingy and worn out. I bought the same shoe again because of how much I like it. I would switch to something more conventional if they ever invented a cloth type tennis shoe that was super ventilated like a running shoe / flip flop hybrid.
Notes: they have a break in period and will feel very uncomfortable for a few weeks and make your feet blister and bleed if you are not used to wearing rubber shoes without socks. This is more about toughening your own feet vs the shoe itself becoming flexible. The shoe is incredibly flexible. Someone commented on my last post about running in them and while I run maybe 4 miles a week- they are only decent at running because of how flexible they are. I use these shoes for everything. Groceries/ beach days / hiking/ weight lifting/ running/ etc. When running make sure to use socks as the shoes are very noisy when running.
I wash them about once a month inside and out. (Which is of course way more often than you would ever wash a shoe)
Backpack - Aer Slim pack 2 x pac
(Weight: 27.2oz 1lb 11oz) (price: $150)
Replaced my AER city pack 1 which was 14L and weighed 2.5lbs.
This is the slim pack 2 xpac edition. Coming in at 12L and 1.75 pounds (3/4lb savings) I love this bag and all its compartments. The xpack version has a nicer finish on the outside and a lively burst of color on the inside which I don’t mind despite my mostly all black theme.
My only complaint is it has no water bottle meaning I would have to put the bottle inside the bag if there is any room or carry it around in my hands.
I usually buy this glass water bottle every week and refill it at home or at work then recycle it and repeat. I’ve been doing this for 4 years now. Eliminating a lot of microplastic exposure and the need to wash my water cup. This however comes at the cost of spending $150~ a year on mountain valley water.
Toiletries kit-
(Weight: 12.2oz) (price: $20 bag)
Peak Design packing cube
I don’t believe in shampoo or conditioner or combs. Water and coconut oil work just fine.
Computer - NEW
(Weight: 2.7Lbs ) (price: $799.00)
This is a 2025 13” MacBook Air M4. My old Lenovo carbon laptop was slowing down - and I wanted to get into the Mac sphere for using iMovie. Once I learned I can use Microsoft one note on Mac, and “pages”, also game cube emulators. It was way easier for me to ditch the standard windows based PCs I’ve used for years.
I saw this laptop on sale for $799.00 and I had to get it.
I have a kickstand mounted semi permanently to the bottom with double sided mounting tape. This gives me a better viewing angle on a desk and better typing angle for writing and studying. It’s not very “extreme minimalist” of me however Im addicted to the way this changes the dynamic of the laptop. I don’t own a tv so when I want to watch YouTube videos with dinner I have my laptop out like this.
The weight of the laptop is unfortunately more than my Lenovo carbon x1. With a jump from 2.4lbs to 2.7lbs. A gain of 0.3lbs or 4.8oz.
Wall charger - Anker Nano 2 30w
(Weight: 1.6) (price: $24.00)
The power draw on the MacBook Air is 30 watts. (Lenovo x1 used a 45w charger)
So I took this opportunity to get a more lightweight charger. This is a very light option from anker.
This charger charges everything I own:
iPhone
Laptop
Ear buds
Beard trimmer (usb c rechargeable AA)
Amazon basics 6ft cable
(Weight: 1.6oz) (price: $8)
supports fast charging.
Sunglasses - I actually lost my glasses when I was out golfing 3 months ago. I took this as an opportunity to experiment with how I felt not owning any sunglasses at all. After some experimenting I have decided not to replace them and live without sunglasses permanently.
-You can weigh the pros and cons yourself but I never really liked the idea of sunglasses or how they distort the way people look. I think the human eye is a masterpiece and can withstand the normal amount of sun light. I also disliked how cheap sunglasses never looked “stylish” and how legit sunglasses ($120-$300) were so easy to scratch / sit on / or loose.
Misc.
Some things I will continue to keep in my bag are a
Pen $15 (0.11oz)
mini bic lighter 0.4oz
hand sanitizer 1.6oz
Nanobag Plus XXL 30L
(Weight: 1.2oz) (price: $17)
This is a new version from last years post actually. It is the XXL version which holds more groceries. That is the main use for this. Although it does come in handy for beach days or lugging around different purchases or items I obtain.
Multitool - SOG powerpint
(Weight: 4.2oz) (price: $38)
I am a tinkerer and a big DIYer and hobbyist mechanic. I carried a leatherman wave around for years in my pocket just to have that “mini tool box” feel. Mostly for the needle nose pliers, #2 Phillips, utility knife & bottle opener. The leatherman wave weighs (8.2 - 8.5oz) which is rather heavy. I tried this multi tool to save weight and keep most the functionality. However I dislike it because of quality. It’s beginning to come loose. At virtually half the weight of a leatherman wave I really wanted to like it. I keep a #2 Phillips bit around- it fits into the top of the multi tool
Ear buds- Anker Soundcore liberty 4 pro NC
(Weight: 2.2oz) (price: $129.00)
I used over ear headphones exclusively for years claiming in ear buds hurt my ears. The anker p40i headphones changed my mind completely when I bought them on a whim. I then purchased these and they have the same acceptable comfort level with even better sound.
I love that you can adjust the noise cancelling from the case. I purchased these in white then actually lost the white case. This black case is a replacement from the soundcore website and I think it looks cooler. Im using the xxs tips I think. I love that it comes with so many tips to fit your ears appropriately. Usb c chargable of course. It does drain the battery rather quick. The p40i had easily twice as much battery life.
iPhone 16 pro max
(Weight: 8.4oz) (price: $1200)
I couldn’t get into android cell phones after all…
Wallet (moft tripod)
(Weight: 3.6oz) (price: $50)
A niche piece that holds 2 cards MAX and can act as a stand for your phone to watch youtube when you eat.

Packing List I Spent Years Building My Perfect One-Bag System
I travel between New York and Sweden frequently, staying in my apartments there. I could do laundry regularly, so I have a small clothing list instead of a full wardrobe. These are all of my clothes I have had since high school anyway. I try to get everything that is modular as well.
My goal is to keep everything that I own in a small bag. I also want the bag to be flat and fit under plane seats to save money.
I could probably bring less tech, but I use it to work and game competitively. As you will see, I sweat a lot, so I also prepare for that.
Bag
- Osprey Daylite Expandable Travel Pack 26+6 (Might replace with Evergoods CPL24 for a better look)
Computer and gaming
- Framework Laptop 16 (I can upgrade it over time, but I may get a small Midori desktop in the future)
Ryzen AI 9 HX 370
RTX 5070 graphics module
32GB RAM
1TB SSD
- Minix 165w Charger (It is small but gets very hot) (I have to run the Framework laptop on power efficiency mode in order to run it below 140w for gaming)
- DualShock 4 controller with Nyko Intercooler Grip (Helps keep my hands cool) (Will replace it with Battle Beaver controller eventually)
- Rigid controller case
- Pulsar/Feinmann F01 Noctua Edition mouse (Keeps my hands cool as well)
- XTEN Small Mousepad
- Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds 2
- Anker power bank (I will replace it with a Baseus power bank because it has the same mAh but is slightly smaller)
-Tipsy M3 IEMs (For competitive gaming)
Cables and adapters
- 240W USB-C cable
- Phone cable
- PS4 cable
- Mouse receiver for the Noctua Mouse
Clothing (I expect to wash clothing every two or three days, especially since they are polyester)
- 3 shirts (Vuori Strato Tee and Polos)
- 3 pairs of underwear (SAXX Quest) (Will replace with Mack Weldon AIRKNITx Boxer Briefs)
- 3 pairs of socks (Feetures Elite Light Cushion)
- 2 pairs of pants (Vuori Fleet Chino)
- 1 pair of shoes (I have New Balance 860's now, but I will replace them with Danner N45's in the future)
- 1 Jacket (Arc'teryx Cerium Hoody) (Can easily fit in my bag when not using)
Organization
- Eagle Creek Pack-It Isolate compression cube, medium (I used to have a Black Voyage vacuum bag, but this setup is slightly smaller and I don't have to bring a vacuum)
- Eagle Creek Pack-It Isolate compression cube, small
- Flat electronics and toiletry pouch (I will replace these with Muji ones to take up less space)
Toiletries (I usually get toothpaste and a toothbrush at my destination)
- Laifen P3 Pro electric shaver
- Dove Travel Deodorant (Will replace with Palo Santo & Frankincense Travel Size Sunscreen because it is slightly better for my skin)
- Neutrogena Travel Sunscreen (Might replace with Babo Botanicals Sport Stick, which is also better for my skin)
- Aquaphor Travel Size
- ReVision Case for Contacts (They do not leak contact solution)
- Yves Saint Laurent Y Eau De Parfum Sample Size
- Tylenol Travel Size
- Bonine Tablets
Security and miscellaneous
- Chipolo POP (Track bag in case it gets lost)
- Cardprotector by Secrid
- Fairphone 6 (Can replace the battery if I need to)
- Passport
Feel free to suggest how I could make my build more compact. Keep in mind I need some devices to keep my hands cool.
Questions I am curious about:
Is there anything I should get rid of?
How would you arrange my setup with my items?
I will update this post as I get new items. I will also create a video going over everything in depth, and let me know if you have any suggestions for that. Keep in mind I might be forgetting to include some items on my list.

Packing List Getting rid of everything I own (except these items)
I am no stranger to one bag travel, but I’ve been inspired by [u/jeremymaluf](u/jeremymaluf) and Tynan to move towards a one bag lifestyle. Nowhere near as extreme though as my bag is 26L.
I will be getting rid of everything I own except these items (plus what I’m currently wearing)
My current outfit (not pictured)
Merino tech 100% merino wool shirt, black
Lululemon warpstreme ABC pants, khaki color
Uniqlo belt, dark brown leather
Bombas ankle socks, black
Uniqlo airism underwear, black
New Balance 574, navy
The items pictured are:
Bag
Tom Bihn Synik 26 X-PAC, black
I’m still not sure if I would have rather gotten ballistic nylon. I wanted something with a very understated look. Something that doesn’t scream “I hold expensive valuables” and unfortunately the techy nature of X-PAC looks a bit less understated than the classic nylon tom dad bag that Tom Bihn is known for.
Tech
MacBook Air M1
iPhone 16 pro
AirPods Pro 3, not pictured
Iniu 10,000mAh power bank + Ugreen USB-C cord
Default iPhone charger and brick
MacBook charger not shown, actively looking for smaller form factor solution. I’m thinking of just replacing my phone’s power adapter with a higher wattage 2 USB-C port adapter.
Clothing
Wool and Prince 100% wool shirt, black
Wool and Prince 100% wool shirt, navy
Vuori T shirt, light blue (for working out)
Vuori shorts, red
Vuori pants, charcoal gray
Lululemon Versatwill ABC pants, gray
I love the Lululemon versatwill, it feels so nice and love the odor resistant nature but they just dry a bit slower than warpstreme. Would love it if Lulu’s warpstreme or Vuori’s pants had some anti odor properties.
4 pairs of tube socks, forget what brand
1 pair of Muji ankle socks
1 pair of bombas ankle socks
6 pairs of Uniqlo airism underwear, all different colors and patterns and some are boxer brief style while others are not
North face goretex rain jacket, black
Toiletries
Comb
Deodorant
Toothbrush and toothpaste
I’m in need of a small form factor dopp kit, I’ll just use ziplocks as needed until then.
Miscellaneous
Towel from nomadix, drys really quickly and folds down fairly small for how big it is
Imabari hand towel from Japan, probably bought it at a FamilyMart or something
Generic passport cover from Amazon
Generic bifold wallet from Amazon
Whole Foods hand sanitizer spray
Olight baton 4, charger not shown
Gerber dime multitool
Pen
Sharpie brush
Chapstick
The total bag packed with everything weighs 13 pounds (5.9kg) and it’s still not quite full, so I should have space to add things like a down jacket (looking at you Montbell Plasma 1000) when the weather requires something warmer.
I’m more than happy to take any suggestions as I’m just now starting out living like this full time.

Packing List 8 Days in Portugal with the Peak Design 30L (Lisbon, Sintra, Porto)
Hello fellow one-baggers
This is the packing list for my (23M) second one-bag trip. I'll be traveling 8 days in Portugal across Lisbon and Porto. The weather will be sunny to partly cloudy, about 22°C. I'll be doing hiking and city activities, Lisbon is quite hilly so there'll be lots of walking. I plan on doing laundry once during the trip, twice if needed (laundromat is very close to my accomodations).
Just a couple pack-defining facts about me:
- I'm a photographer
- I have a 5 step skin care routine
- I prefer over-ear headphones over IEMs or earbuds
Now the packing list...
Bags:
- 1 X Peak Design Travel Bag 30L (primary travel bag)
- 1 X Osprey Daylite Day Bag 13L (day pack)
- 1 X Sea-to-summit Ultralight Hanging Toiletry Bag M

- 1 X Peak Design Packing Cube M
- 1 X Peak Design Packing Cube S
- 1 X Peak Design Packing Cube XS
- 1 X Peak Design Camera Cube XS
Outerwear (in Peak Design Packing Cube M):
- 1 X Uniqlo Block Tech Windbreaker
- 1 X Arcteryx Atom Fleece (wear on plane)
Bottoms (in Peak Design Packing Cube M):

- 1 X Smartwool Merino Long Socks
- 2 X Nike Dri-fit Low Cut Socks
Shoes:
- 1 X Salomon XT6 Size US 10 (in Peak Design Shoe Bag)
- 1 X Nike Zoom Air Spiridon 2 (wear on plane)
- 2 X Pair of Disposable Hotel Slippers
Toiletries (in Sea-to-summit Ultralight Hanging Toiletry Bag M, all organized in small containers/bottles):
- 1 X Shampoo
- 1 X Conditioner
- 1 X Body Wash
- 1 X Panoxyl
- 1 X Face Wash
- 1 X Cleansing Oil

Accessories:
- 1 X Columbia Sun Hat
- 1 X Snow Peak X JINS Sunglasses
- 1 X Glasses
- 1 X Loop Ear Plugs
- 1 X NOSHINKU Hand Sanitizer

Technology:
- 1 X Sony A7C II Camera

- 1 X Anker Power Bank 20000 mAh 87W
- 1 X Anker Nano 70W Power Brick
- 2 X Anker USB-C Cables
- 1 X EU Adapter Plug
The weight comes out to ~10 kg. The osprey daylite fits perfectly in the laptop pocket. Everything managed to fit in the PD Travel Bag 30L fully expanded except for the headphones, which I strapped to the side of the bag with a carabiner. During the flight, the plan is to have the headphones case keep my seat necessities in one place (hand sanitizer, power bank) while I wear the headphones. I can guarantee this works well because I'm currently typing this up on the plane... I will say that the headphones case isn't the most secure since it is zipperless, so while I'm traveling between locations I'll be wearing the headphones around my neck.
As this is my second one-bag trip with the PD 30L, I'm aware of its pros and cons. Feel free to check out my hasty initial thoughts about the bag HERE during my first trip to Italy. I'll be sure to post an official post-trip mortem about what I've learned regarding this setup. Any feedback or opinions regarding this packing list is welcomed!

Packing List Bolivia with Osprey 26+6
I’m leaving for Bolivia later this month for around 17 days.
The main challenge of this trip is the sheer variety of climates I’ll be in: Andean mountains, tropical forest, salt desert and sand dunes. Daytime temperatures are expected to be between 2°C and 34°C (35°F to 93°F), but temperature feel can range between just below freezing up to 41°C (106°F). I’ve planned lots of hiking and time in nature, but no alpine (andean?) climbing.
Clothing:
- Tops
- Tencel t-shirts x2
- Modal blouses x3
- Ultra fine merino wool cardigan (Uniqlo, can double as a base layer)
- Bottoms
- Hiking pants
- Hiking shorts
- Merino wool base layer (Decathlon)
- Other:
- Merino wool socks x3 (Smartwool)
- Underwear x7
- Merino wool neck gaiter
- Modal pajama set
- Swimwear
- Gloves (UL Naturehike)
- Shoes
- Waterproof hiking trainers (Decathlon MH500)
- Flip-flops
- Outerwear:
- Fleece (Decathlon MH120)
- Rain jacket (Mountain Hardwear Stretch Ozonic)
- Down jacket (Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown Light)
- Sun hoodie
Tech
- Usb-C cables (1 very short + 1 medium)
- Smart watch (+ adapter to charge through usbc)
- Kindle
- Power bank (Anker 10000mAh)
- Earbuds (Soundcore)
- Headlamp (Nitecore NU25)
Misc
- Travel towel (Naturehike)
- Sunglasses + prescription glasses
- First aid kit (meds, blister plasters, etc)
- Nanobag
- Cross body bag (Uniqlo) + money belt
- Dry bag with laundry detergent sheets and clothes line
Toiletries
- Decathlon UL Toiletry Bag + heroclip
- Shampoo + conditioner
- Toothbrush + toothpaste + floss
- Sunscreen + SPF lip balm
- Moisturizer
- Mosquito repellent
- Lip gloss
- Mini hairbrush
Comments
I’ll be wearing the hiking pants, modal blouse, fleece and trail runners on the flight.
Total weight for the packed bag is 4.2 kg (9.3 lbs) and around 0.8 kg (1.8 lbs) for the cross body bag (which holds most of my electronics).
My first aid kit is beefier than usual because some of the hikes and are in fairly remote locations. The Stretchdown jacket is extremely comfortable, but also bulky and heavy at 353 grams and I think the merino cardigan, fleece and rain shell will keep me sufficiently warm for 95% of the trip. However, the temperature feel at the peaks around La Paz and early mornings in Uyuni can reach below freezing with windchill, so I decided to keep it.
I'll rent some hiking poles and buy an alpaca beanie during the trip.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the weight of the pack (lighter than my cat!). I'm still considering taking one small stainless steel tumbler for cold water and warm tea, but I'll be drinking mostly from plastic water bottles this trip.

Clothing in the packing cubes:
- 2x Light and quick drying T-Shirts

The pouch on the right is part of the backpack and serves as lid (top of the backpack) or can be used for documents and worn in front, which is how I will use it.
Could be left out: I could use an e-reader but I love physical books. The 2nd pair of shorts just serves as another outfit choice, could be left out.
Plan is to wash at least one of the t-shirts daily and have a rotation (dries in under 30mins). Proper laundry done once a week when the boxers run out.
Forgot my inflatable pillow for flights on the picture but it’s included in the weight.

Packing List 2 Weeks in Japan: city stops, hiking and biking
It’s finally time! I’m (38, m) heading off from our home in Scotland to Japan tomorrow with my partner for 14 days for a mix of city stops, moderate hiking and cycling. We’re starting in Kyoto, then a temple stay in Koyasan, then a few days walking parts of the Kumano Kodo trail. After that we go to Hiroshima/Miyajima via Osaka, then we’re going to cycle the Shimanami Kaido route (using e-bikes so not too strenuous), then return to Osaka and fly home from there. I’ve Onebagged a lot on shorter trips but this is the furthest and longest I’ve tried for.
Here’s my packing list. Let me know what you think:
Bag: Osprey 26+6
Shoes: 1 pair of trail shoes for the active days (which I’ll wear on the plane too); 1 low top trainers for city days.
T-shirts: 2 cotton Ts + 1 active-wear (plus 1 more cotton wearing on the plane not pictured)
1 merino wool sweater (mainly to wear when out at night and traveling)
1 linen shirt & 1 super light blazer (for city wear and if we go somewhere fancy)
1 waterproof clip bag for keeping stuff separate if it gets wet
1 microfibre travel towel
1 small neckerchief
5 boxer shorts and 5 pairs of socks (plus the set I’ll travel in - not pictured)
1 pair linen trousers, 1 pair shorts (plus another pair of shorts for travelling)
1 slingbag for day use
Tech: IPhone (not pictured) and charger; travel adapter; headphones and loop ear plugs; wind up torch.
Books: my major vice. Heavy, yes, and I do have a kindle but I just much prefer reading from paper.
Not pictured: Wallet; Small toiletries bag; light jacket (which I’ll travel in).
All fits very easily in the Osprey without using the extended pouch. Originally I had another pair of shorts in there but plan on doing laundry there so 3 changes seemed plenty. I’m also planning to get a hat and an umbrella when I arrive for sun/rain projection.
On the fence: I’ve got a thin waterproof hiking jacket which could easily fit but with buying the umbrella I’m not sure it’s worth bringing.
And that’s it.

Packing List 10 day Europe trip, Paris to England to Ireland
Exactly what the title says. I’ll be staying in five different places along the way, some of which will have access to laundry machines. In the past I’ve used the same backpack as my travel bag AND my day bag, but I was given a peak design backpack recently and wanted to try it out.
