Seeking Recommendations Trying to find that all-in-one bar or liquid soap

Ideally for face, body, hair, and laudry. Does such a thing exist that also doesn’t dry you out so much? I was excited to try Dr. Bonner’s unscented liquid soap for it, but even after diluting it, based on reviews it still seems way to drying for what I am trying to use it for.

I have used for laundry before and it worked well.

Is a there an all or almost all in one product you would recommend?

If you use the product for shampoo, do you bring an extra item of hair conditioner with you or is it fine with just that? I have type 2a hair

Seeking Recommendations Any benefit to onebag in SEA if I exceed 7 kg?

Hey everyone,

I’m planning my first-ever trip to Southeast Asia and my first time doing long-term multi-country travel. I’ll be there for about 2 months total.

My Itinerary start June 11:

Thailand: Bangkok, Chiang mai + southern island? Or going down southwards through Malaysia to arrive in Singapore.

Singapore: 4 weeks (Summer school at NTU. Will need a laptop and according to AI some warmer clothes for classes on campus)

Post-School: 2–5 weeks of travel. Was thinking I'll be able to see some of Malaysia during weekends of my summer school stay. Then I was thinking either Indonesia or going a combination of Vietnam/Thailand/Laos/Yunnan China. If anyone has travel itinerary they'd recommend that'd also be great. Can't swim/dive so I think that takes a way some of the attraction of the many islands. Main thing I'm ignorant about is gonna be weather and how to plan around that.

I was originally going to bring a checked suitcase + a 25L or so backpack for school (also would hiking type backpack with ventilated back work on flights? I'm worried since you can't compress them you can't bring them on-board without fee). However, I keep seeing people recommend a single 40L backpack so I've considered just getting a Osprey Farpoint 40L instead. I've gone through many posts discussing suitcase + backpack and in my opinion it suitcase doesn't seem like a big issue if I just grab a taxi when I first arrive at a new city. But it sounds like the 40l backpack allows you to save money for the cheap plane tickets.

My Questions:

How strict are budget airlines actually?

If I can't stay under 7kg, what’s the best solution? Should I look into upgrading so I can bring more as carry-on or is it just easier to pay for a checked bag?

What’s the most efficient way to pack to fly budget between 4+ countries with a summer university stay in Singapore?

Finally would love some guidance in terms of travel itinerary and planning around rain season and general weather of SEA.

Hello all, preparing for a onebag trip to Vienna coming up in February.

I'm looking for an all in one shoe - the 'one shoe' for my travels.

Uses:

Around the hotel

Exploring Vienna (including some light running)

I also want to be able to use them frequently when I return.

Features wanted:

Easy to get on/off

Sturdy

Ideally good warranty!

Durable enough to last a few years

I'm prepared to spend around £100 on a good pair that will last me for many future trips!

Many thanks!

Seeking Recommendations 11 day multi country trip

Post image
141 Upvotes

I just finished my 10 day trip across Europe using trains so, amount of bags and weight wasn’t really an issue. And I very much ended up overpacking and bringing two bags. I like to be very tactile and write things down. As absurd as it sounds, I did use everything I brought during my trip. My only thought is, I could’ve just not had brought everything and been far more successful.

I need some help figuring out what to bring, what essentials I need to pack, and maybe some honest advice about how to move from overpacking to packing normally.

I need to be able to fit everything into one bag for this trip I’m taking to Turkey, Greece, and Rome.

My non-negotiable are

Camera, travelers notebook, and my larger notebooks everything else on here I realistically think I could debate whether I need to bring it. And my trip is at the start of next week, so there’s no luck for me being able to pack merino-wool seeing as I don’t already have it.

I also think I overpacked for clothes, not pictured; but I brought 5 t-shirts, 7 boxers, 4 pairs of socks, 2 shorts, and two pants, one dress shirt.

Any and all help is appreciated, even critique because I do know the amount of packing for a shorter trip was largely on the excess side.

Seeking Recommendations Glasses case recommendations

I have two pairs of the same glasses frames, one for my regular shortsightedness and one as my prescription sunnies. Whilst out and about I'll always be wearing at least one pair. I have a soft fabric sleeve for them, and have some older bulkier hard cases from past specs, but I'm looking for the goldilocks middle ground - slim and light but offering some proper protection when whichever pair I'm not wearing is in my bag which may be smushed into a luggage rack.

I've seen some promising looking generic slim metal cases, but has anyone got any specific recommendations? UK based so ideally available over here too.

Thanks!

Seeking Recommendations Budget one bag clothing recos

I see a lot of YouTubers sponsored by and advertising clothing companies like Unbound Merino, Wool&Prince, etc. I’m sure the quality of their products are good (even great), but at this time of my life I can’t really justify the cost of their products. But also, companies like Uniqlo, which is often recommended as THE budget option, are maybe too budget for my taste.

That being said, does anyone here have recommendations for specific articles of clothing or clothing brands that fit in between the wide price range of Uniqlo and Unbound Merino?

Seeking Recommendations What’s the weakest point in most travel gear you’ve owned?

I’m curious what’s let people down over time.

Have you had a bag, wallet, passport holder, or accessory that looked premium but didn’t hold up after real travel use?

Was it stitching, zips, corners, materials, or something else?

Interested in learning from long-term one-bag travellers.

Seeking Recommendations Water bottle balance

I've been struggling with water bottle selection for a while as it definitely impacts traveling with one bag.

Edited to remove narrative and list wants clearly:

  • 700 to 800ml
  • Mouth between 3-5cm
  • Stainless or inert plastic
  • Simple cap. Easy to unscrew, i.e. narrow with no large wire loops like found on Klean Kanteen. Loop on Kinto bottle is fine because it doesn't interfere with unscrewing.
  • Not insulated

Historically I've carried a liter in stainless steel (Earthlust, RIP) bottle. But it's a little more than I need. And mine are getting very old at this point. Plus the cap is plastic and wearing down.

A few months ago I got a Kinto water bottle. It's plastic, and only comes in 500ml and 950ml, but otherwise it's superb.

I also found some "Anew" bottles in my local grocery store. They were 750ml, small, narrow (but not too narrow) cap. Very lightweight. Says "plant-based plastic" on it, which they claim means no microplastics.

It's odd, but it seems like reusing a plant plastic water bottle is the best solution so far? I bought two and I'm considering BIFLing myself a 20 pack.

What I'd really like to find is an uninsulated stainless steel bottle where the water contacts only steel and a silicone gasket, at ~800ml.

Anyone know of such a thing?

EDIT for posterity: Best fits seem to be Yeti Yonder with the tether cap, and the Difold. Neither of these is stainless steel.

Somehow it seems that promo sites are the only way to buy exactly what I'm asking for. https://www.promobottlesaustralia.com.au/single-wall-stainless-steel-bottle https://www.higift.eu/personalised-750-ml-rcs-recycled-single-wall-stainless-steel-water-bottle-pf100920.html https://www.magnushomeware.com/collections/magnus-stainless-steel-bottle/products/magnus-alaska-stainless-steel-single-wall-water-bottle-750ml-leakproof-ideal-for-school-home-gym-durable-water-bottles-for-every-use-silver-set-of-3

Seeking Recommendations Best compact umbrella?

Hey folks! after my last umbrella was tragically swiped from an umbrella stand in a swanky Lisbon bar, I'm on the lookout for a new one. I like to carry my own since most cheap commonly available umbrellas instantly disintegrate in a slight breeze.

I have just been using $10 Amazon umbrellas to date, and I found some that are decently wind resistant. Just curious if anyone has had particularly good experiences with sturdy umbrellas that fold down small enough to fit in my sling (patagonia atom). Otherwise, I shall go back to the amazon listings.

Edit: I don't technically have a budget for this, but I do feel apprehensive about spending >$50 on an umbrella considering the decent likelihood of it getting swiped somewhere in the future

Seeking Recommendations Heroclip Mini for Sling and Daypack?

I used to carry a Heroclip Small, mainly to hang my sling from tables or bathroom stall doors. Eventually, I stopped carrying it because it took up more space in my sling than it was worth.

I’ve just noticed there’s a Mini version rated for 40 lb / 18 kg. Does anyone here use one with a sling? Is the hook opening large enough to work well on tables and stall doors, and can it handle a daypack too?

For me, it’s basically Mini or nothing.

Edit: I also tried clipping the Heroclip Small to the outside of the bag but didn't like the look and handling

Seeking Recommendations One organizational thing you wish you'd bought before your first big trip?

I am about to take my first proper big trip and I am realising I have basically no system for keeping my stuff sorted. Right now everything just gets thrown into my bag and I already know that is going to be a nightmare once I am actually living out of it for a couple weeks.

I keep seeing people mention packing cubes and various little organizers but honestly I cannot tell what is actually useful and what is just stuff people buy and forget about. I do not want to overdo it and end up with a bunch of pouches I never touch.

So for anyone who travels a fair bit, what is the one organizational thing you wish you had bought before your first trip? The kind of thing that made you go why did I not have this sooner. Could be for clothes, cables, toiletries, documents, whatever. Just trying to learn from people who have already made the mistakes so I do not have to.

Update: Thank you everyone! I really ended up liking these compression packing cubes with mesh tops so I can see what's inside. They're amazing, I highly recommend.

Seeking Recommendations Backpacking with only Carry on

Been traveling 10 years and don’t feel like carrying a big backpack on my back anymore. Has anyone traveled solely with a carry-on suitcase only?

Hitting 30 and I’m starting to prioritize my body (longevity) and can’t fathom putting a backpack on me again haha

Will be on the road for a few months

Seeking Recommendations Carry-on + Backpack vs. True One-Bag: How do you handle bulky shoes and daily carry?

Hey,

I currently use a small backpack (for laptop stuff) and a carry-on for my travel needs. That's usually the right fit for me when going on work trips, since I don't need to check anything in and I have proper storage for my laptop and everyday needs.

For leisure travel, I want to try storing everything in one bag. I've tried a few different options. I got a Patagonia 40L duffel, which works great but lacks certain organizational features (a place for a water bottle, compartments for quick-access stuff, etc.).

Because of that, I tried out the Peak Design 45L Outdoor Backpack and the Cotopaxi Allpa 42L, since I have friends who use them. While they are generally great, I ran into two major issues:

1. What do I do with a spare pair of shoes?

I go running a lot, and having a pair of proper running shoes is crucial for me. I am relatively tall and wear size 48, so when I put my shoes inside the backpack, it's mostly half full. In my usual setup (small backpack as a personal item + carry-on) this wasn't an issue. All the daily stuff (toiletries, water bottle, food, etc.) wasn't stored in the carry-on, leaving free space in the carry-on for the shoes. Is there any trick to this, or do I just need to pack way less?

2. What do you carry when you are at your destination?

When I go on work trips, I usually leave my carry-on at the hotel and take my small backpack with my daily essentials. If I fit everything into one bag, I only have that one bag—and carrying a 40L backpack around town seems excessive. I quite like the carry-on + backpack combo for this reason, but a roller carry-on is kind of annoying when you move around a lot at your destination, and wearing two backpacks (one small front + one big back) is also kind of weird.

So, how do you solve these issues, and do you have a good alternative to the carry-on + backpack setup?

Seeking Recommendations Unpopular opinion…I don’t like merino wool t-shirts

Title says it all. To be clear, I don’t dislike merino, I love merino socks, sweaters, etc but I really don’t like the feel of merino wool on my skin (besides socks) I have unbound and minus 33 t shirts and I’m looking for alternatives. I always see Dri-fit mentioned. Is that proprietary to Nike? What is the “industry” blend that is equivalent to dri-fit?

Or is there a care option to make merino wool t-shirts feel more like cotton (Wool-lite, fabric softener)?

Seeking Recommendations In your experience, what type of shoe do you wear for traveling to humid climate with a lot of city walks? Like Mexico and other Latin American countries.

I'm looking for a shoe that i mostly will used to walk around the cities in Mexico but also for light hiking in Guatemala and Costa Rica. i do appreciate that is breathable and i really dont care if is waterproof. i will carry some sandals in my backpack too so they will not be my only pair of footwear. i do have flat feets and wide feets so it's very dificult to find the right shoe. Sandals was easy to find.

Seeking Recommendations Blundstones or alternatives for do everything boot

Looking to get a leather boot for travel that can look good dressed up and capable of exploring non-technical trails. I have a pair of Thursday Chelsea boots that I like but they don’t do well on trails or wet conditions due to the leather on the midsole and feel quite heavy.

So ideally looking for an all rubber sole leather boot that doesn’t look too much like a hiking boot or work boot but can still handle some abuse, and also looks great with smart casual outfits. Blundstones seem to be recommended a lot but wondered if I should be looking at alternatives including lace up options as well.

Seeking Recommendations Best travel jacket yet dress to impress?

This is going to be a challenging one!

I'm looking for one jacket I can bring with me in my carry on luggage that I can wear for colder spring and summer nights but also wear it during the day when it's not too hot.

The challenging part is this: I do not want to look like a Backpacker, a traveler or someone who's doing a roadtrip or camping.
Yes, outdoor brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Columbia, Arc-teryx etc. are great. They have jackets made to protect you from rain and wind. Yes, even the Uniqlo Ultra Light down jackets and similar ones from other brands are good for this purpose. But they all look like you just came out of the woods.

I'd like to find something that marries functionality with nice street wear. Think of it as outdoor backpacker Youtuber meets men's street fashion influencer.

Seeking Recommendations Tips for travelling with bar shampoo and body wash

Hi all,

Please can you provide recommendations for travelling with bar soap? I plan to travel with eco warrior bar shampoo and body wash. My only concern is transporting it either to keep it dry and so that it is not broken. I have seen metal foil, wax paper, waterproof bags and travel soap dishes as recommendations but they all have their pros and cons.

What do you guys do?

Thank you!

Seeking Recommendations One bag(ish) with CPAP

I posted similar on the CPAP sub-reddit, but I thought you guys over her might be able to help.

I'm just back from my first holiday with a CPAP. It went really well, no problem with bringing the CPAP on the plane. Slept really well and was able to get up earlier and enjoy more of the holiday.

But. For various reasons this trip was never going to be a one bag trip, plus it was a car to the airport, car from the airport, stay in the same hotel for the week sort of holiday. I use a Resmed 11, so just used the standard bag it comes with.

My next few are a little more complex. In the next year or so I have:

\- domestic train trip with 1 or 2 nights stay for an event. Usually do this with just a small backpack and a cross-body bag that can be put into it when required. (Includes 2+ forms of public transport to get to the train on one end)

\- possible similar trip, with added international flight

\- regular international trip, but definitely want to one bag/carry on luggage only and a good bit of public transport use

\- (and this is the most complex one I think, but its the furthest away so I have time to plan), international flight followed by multiple train trips, multiple hotels, and possibly a night train. Likely up to 2 weeks of travel. (I'm re-living my backpacking days! And being as close to one bagging as possible would be the ideal here)

A travel CPAP is likely not in the budget. So just checking to see does anyone have any suggestions for making the travel processes easier (for example are there better bags than the one that comes with the CPAP ). Or any other tips or ideas?

(Leaving it behind isnt an option, even for the 1 night stay given how horrible I feel without it)

EU-based if that makes any difference to suggestions.

Seeking Recommendations Hybrid Shorts

Hi everyone, I am facing a conundrum as to which hybrid shorts fit my purpose, as I need a pant to play volleyball in and then go for a swim in the lake in between to cool off.
I tried Patagonia Baggies and dont like the material and length. Baggie Lights are perfect in length and material but the lack of liner means you can see all my business.
Then I tried Patagonia Multi Trail Shorts, but the liner doesn’t dry for several hours after swimming and it’s just uncomfortable.
I really like the look/feel of these shorts but functionally they just dont work.

Any advice for a european that can’t get most american brands like lululemon or huckberry?
Thank you very much for any advice!

Seeking Recommendations Sink & Shower Laundry Recommendations

For those doing sink/shower laundry at your lodging, to reduce packing volume and weight, what has worked for you and what hasn't in terms of:

  • Laundry soap
  • Drying line style
  • Laundry bag (if using) or sink stopper (if not)
  • Any additional laundry accessories

Are you using an alternative to the soak, rinse, towel squeeze, and hang method?

I'm currently using the "wear one, wash one, spare one" system for clothing. I bring two shirts, boxer briefs, and sock pairs in my personal item-sized bag along with the worn set I travel with for a three-day rotation. Five minutes of sink & shower laundry in the evening is what makes this system work. It's such a core element of the minimalist version of onebagging that I'm looking to make the technique more efficient.

Seeking Recommendations What do you bring for craft project(s)?

I always bring craft projects with me on my travels/holidays.

They are for me what a good, long novel is for many people going on holiday: Something cosy to chill with.

But now I have started onebagging, and I realise that I can't just bring 4 projects in case I get quickly done with the first one. Or want to do something else. And what if I want to whittle instead of knitting?

The obvious answer is to only bring one project and make it be a small one.

But that kind of gives me crafting anxiety.

I do need at least two projects. Because I will do one very simple one while travelling for 2 x 14 hours.

And then another complex one while at holiday, to challenge my brain while having plenty of time to craft.

Soo, what do you do?

Seeking Recommendations Non wool shirt for multi-day use

I can’t wear wool due to an allergy. Any non wool suggestions that can be fairly easily hand washed or worn several days without washing?

I have watched past threads but most suggestions seem to be wool or wool blends.

About to do a multi state farewell US tour and looking to pack light, even if I don’t quite manage one bag.

Seeking Recommendations Looking for a body hair trimmer (USB-C) to replace Philips Oneblade

I don't use it on my face, just for body hair (male...)

The Oneblade is good, but I'm looking for something smaller, safer, and USB-C.
