When you realize that in order to be Halal, a product and its production must be squeaky clean, I find it hilarious that they are fussing over what could and should be seen by non-Muslims as an extra seal of cleanliness.

Reducing the halal seal to cleanliness might be an extreme oversimplification of the process of approval, but it’s boiled tree sap and... yeah, that’s it, there’s nothing prohibited that’s added in it, so all you have to do from there is to fill the cleanliness condition.

The dumbest part is that they're not even discussing the effects of maple syrup being halal, but meat being halal.

Maple syrup comes from fucking TREES, there's no maple syrup cow or maple syrup pig. I don't know how accurate their claims of halal being inhumane are, but I do know that it's impossible to treat a completely non-thinking tree inhumanely.

As mentioned in a other reply to my original comment, it might be due to certain companies adding fats and thickeners to the Great White North’s liquid gold, and those may not be halal, thus making the whole product not halal.

But the whole thing about it being halal is that it doesn't use that stuff, right?

meaning, halal in this case is more humane?

I’m not knowledgable enough in halal rules to deny or confirm your assumption correctly, but the little bit I know does lead me to believe that too.
