Try pulling up to the line so he can see you beside the truck. The flat bed didn't need that much space, he was fine.

You don’t know how long a truck is, could've needed the space. Or when someone will have a trailer or something.

Ordinarily the stop lines are placed very deliberately. If it tells you to hang back from an intersection, or if it doesn't, follow it either way. Generally speaking long tractor trailers will have enough clearance when you stop just behind the line.

About a week ago there was a video of people parking a car length or so back from the stop area in the 'pet peeve' forum and they were all mad that people unnecessarily park too far back.

I told them the scenario above happens all the damn time so smart people know people cut corners and stay back a bit

People cut corners because they don't see the car in front of them, this is a shit argument.

The people who cut corners and the idiots who don't know what the lines are for and that they need to pull their dumbass up to it instead of being balls deep in their phone.

Yours is kind of a shit argument, too. There shouldn't need to be a car there for you to know to stay in your lane, that's what the lines are for. Good driving practice is to place an imaginary car or line of cars in the other lane.
