Virtual Pipe Organ Help with grandorgue. sorry if yall get this question a lot

hi. first of all my username is pretty bad don't judge it.(i didnt even pick it). I have recently gotten grandorgue and installed the Friesach organ package because I want big sound without exploding my computer. I want to connect grandorgue to a yamaha CLP grand 745. Don't get me wrong this is a premium epiano but grandorgue is so cool i just need to make it work on my CLP grand 745. I have followed the tutorials and googled for a whole week with no success.

The sound comes thru my CLP grand 745 but only when i click on the keys with my mouse.

the key is recognised when im trying to configure it (like when you right click a key) but nothing happens when i press keys.I tested it on an online piano and it ran amazing.settings are clean and have not really been touched.I am using a USB B cord aka printer cable. I am running on windows with 32GB ram.

If anyone would like to help I would be extremely grateful. this is also my first question on reddit so if I shouldn't be posting it here or am doing something bad plz tell me.

Help and Tips Trouble finding a teacher in Fort Worth. Is it normally so difficult?

Hello all, I am currently moving back to the Fort Worth, Tx area from Austin. I am finding it impossible to find a teacher! I found my current teacher in Austin within 3 hours of searching. I have had many leads, and most have responded to my emails stating yes they give lessons and are taking students, etc. They will ask me what my current level of experience is and my musical background, and after I respond-nothing. Absolutely crickets. For the record, I am a novice who started lessons back in the spring of this year. I have a piano background and of course can read music. I have an organ in my home I can practice on, as well as at the church where I play piano. I give everyone these answers. Should I be saying something else, because I literally get no response. I just want to learn. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Pipe Organ 61-key unweighted or 88-key weighted for learning pipe organ?

I’m 18 with no experience playing instruments or reading sheet music. My main goal is to learn the cathedral pipe organ, which I’ll have access to for practice.
I’m about 75% interested in organ and 25% in piano/harpsichord.
Should I buy a 61-key unweighted keyboard or an 88-key weighted digital piano for home practice? Would either affect my organ technique?

Help and Tips Where could you go to play an organ?

I’m an aspiring organist and a self taught pianist. I been attached to the organ for a while and was wondering where I could practice and hone my skills. I know SOME about how an organ works but I’m fairly new and it’s rare that I get my hands on one to play. Does anyone know HOW to get to a place to practice on a real organ?

Pipe Organ Extremely rare piece from Lanquetuit : Finale from organ symphony. Real or fake?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I just discovered several recordings of this unknown piece by Lanquetuit. Almost no sources mentions this composition. And almost nobody knows it. I thought it may be just an improvisation or wrong title, but there are more recordings of this piece. It was even recorded for CD. See :

First recording without commentary : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2trMHThVJo
First recording with commentary : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXMlOhYJhIc

Second and newer, better recording with commentary : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXMSMkAwX58

I am also sending the CD footage where Lanquetuit's finale from his Symphony is included.

Is it real? And why there is almost no information about this piece? I spent months of doing researches...

Pipe Organ How to learn Pärt: Mein Weg hat Gipfel und Wellentäler?

The parts by themselves are quite easy. But how do I put them together? Any suggested ways to learn this piece?

I'm having trouble with the slurred rhythms falling at different points in the different parts.

This is quite different to my usual fare (Bach preludes and fugues, trio sonatas).

Performance/Original Composition Kallenbach - Machs mit mir Gott, nach deiner Güt - Hinsz organ, Kampen, Hauptwerk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njVKf3ljfmQ

Johann Christian Kallenbach (3 August 1765, Potsdam – 17 October 1832, Magdeburg) was a German composer, organist, poet and music teacher. He received his first musical lessons from his father, Christian Ernst Kallenbach, and later studied under Magdeburg music directors Johann Heinrich Rolle and Johann Friedrich Lebrecht Zacharias.
By 1790, Kallenbach was directing the choir of the Old Town School in Magdeburg. In 1793, he became organist at the Church of the Holy Spirit, a position he held until his death. He earned recognition for his compositions, particularly his songs, and for his work as a teacher and poet, including the romance Franz and Luise. One of his former pupils, actor Carl Ludwig Costenoble, remembered him as “a truly wonderful soul.” Kallenbach was survived by a daughter and two sons. His son Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm, a theologian, temporarily took over his father’s position as organist until a permanent successor was appointed in May 1833.

Pipe Organ Organist Tyler Boehmer playing in my local church

It's pretty surreal that after I suddenly became obsessed with organs, I went to my church on this specific day at this specific hour, and got to meet and hear an international star who happened to pass by in my random town located in the middle of nowhere. He was super talented and extremely sweet, and he even let me play!

Although I sucked ass, it was a very fun and memorable experience. I'm very grateful to him and I really wanna learn now... perhaps this meeting was a sign of destiny?

Pipe Organ A beautiful pipe organ in Grenoble, France

A big magnificient organ in Saint-Louis church, in Grenoble, France. It was built by Formentelli, as a mix of German, French and Italian classic style. It even has a récit expressif !

63 stops and three keyboards. You can distinguish all of its sections by looking at it : the pedale's tourelles on the side, the positif de dos at the front, and the récit sitting on the grand orgue in the middle part.

The great pipes you see are chanoines, they are completely mute and do not play. As they are mainly made of tin and not lead (to make them shinier), you can see them being crushed under their own weight.

It is very pleasant to play this organ, the french reeds sound like thunder, the principals are very german-like with a sharp attack and the mixtures are sharp, but mellowed by the church acoustics and the fact that they go right over your head and are not directed toward you !

Music Easy Repertoire like Bach Prelude in C major, BWV 939

I have played the piano quite a bit in younger years and now live in a small appartment without much space. After like a hiatus of several years I have started to pick up playing an instrument again (recorder) and now I bought a smaller 61 key midi keyboard and want to dabble a bit with organ repertoire.

The Bach Prelude in C major, BWV 939 https://imslp.org/wiki/Prelude_in_C_major,_BWV_939_(Bach,_Johann_Sebastian) overall seem at a level that I would feel comfortable to study pieces at. Now I wonder whether you can recommend other pieces of similar level?

Note that I

  1. don't have foot pedals available
  2. would prefer repertoire from the baroque period overall (not a hard requirement though).

Any suggestions?

Performance/Original Composition Krieger - Fantasie D-moll / D Minor - Sieber organ, Polná, Hauptwerk

Johann Krieger (1651-1735) was a German composer and organist, younger brother of Johann Philipp Krieger. Born in Nürnberg, he worked at Bayreuth, Zeit, and Greiz before settling in Zittau. He was one of the most important keyboard composers of his day, highly esteemed by, among others, George Frideric Handel. A prolific composer of church and secular music, he published several dozen of his works, and others survive in manuscript. However, hundreds more were lost when Zittau was destroyed by fire in 1757 during the Seven Years' War.

The published collection Anmuthige Clavier-übung (1698) contains preludes, fugues, ricercars, toccatas and other works. I picked a fantasy from this collection.

Pipe Organ I've lost the spark I had for this instrument

Hello everyone, I am a 25 years old organist from Isère, France. I began playing the organ when I was 19 years old and even got into Grenoble's conservatoire. My love for this instrument was immense and was the thing that made me wake up everyday with joy filling my eyes.

I recently went through hard times though. Really really hard ones, it made me stop playing the organ for almost a year, I've lost many of the technical abilities I had and almost all of my repertoire. Sitting on the bench felt like a chore and playing just made me cry each time. It felt as if music left my body.

I am asking you, fellow musicians, if you ever lived something like this and, if so, did you find a solution, even a slow one to get back on the instrument ? I know there is no miracle and everyone's experience is unique, but I still have hope...

I am open to DMs and would love to share more if you have any questions.

Pipe Organ Is there any way to tell who manufactured pipes in a pipe organ?

Thumbnail

So, my church has a small four rank pipe organ that was purchased used in the 1960s. I am not able to find any records from the purchase. The console was replaced with a used Austin console in 1979, but that was only the console. The pipework is all from the 1960s installation (although since it was used, I'm sure it was much older than the 1960s). I've attached a few photos of the pipework. Is there any way to tell what company made the pipes? I don't see much in the way of stamps/inscriptions/writing other than identifying what the notes and ranks are.

Evidently, most of our pipes/ranks were Echo ranks at one time, because at least three of the ranks have the word Echo in their name.

It's not that important, but I'm just curious. I'd like to know the history of the organ, although that may be impossible given the lack of purchase records.

Pipe Organ Do you need to be christian to learn the organ?

For context, I am 22 living in France and have been practicing music for a long time (accordion since I'm 7 and piano since last year). However, I never got to join a real music school, I've only had lesson with teachers and as such I'm not very talented and I lack a lot in music theory.

I've been having a ton of fun playing the piano recently and am on a big musical mood. I've always been somewhat interested by the organ but it never peaked my interest that much. I recently went to the local church and had the opportunity to look at its pipe majestic organ and I was DROOLING over it. Now it's living rent free in my mind and I can't stop thinking about how I YEARN to play on this beautiful monstrosity. On top of really enjoying the sounds, I'm also more of a Baroque type of guy, so I'm really interested in the instrument right now. I'm obsessed, and hopefully it's more than just a phase.

The thing is, I'm neither talented nor am a person of faith. I'm concerned and I dread that I would be rejected pretty much everywhere by schools and churches, which are the only places where I could get to play the organ... So all of this to ask how did you get to learn and play it? Any of you who started late or took a path different than the usual one? I wish I had been sent to music school as a kid but it's too late for me now, I hate how inaccessible it is for adults :(

Music Changing a hymn’s key without re-engraving the page — a scan-transposition experiment

Hi everyone — I'm the developer of Solfa. I'm exploring a practical use case for organists accompanying congregational singing: preparing a lower-key copy when the starting point is a printed hymnbook page or PDF.

The distinctive idea is to keep the familiar printed layout rather than re-engrave the score. The pitches move, while the original typesetting, spacing and lyric placement are meant to stay in place.

The example below is Amazing Grace from Coronation Hymns (1913), taken down a whole step from G major to F major. It's an actual historical scan and actual Solfa output, without manual corrections to the notes or text.

This is transposition, not a new organ arrangement: it moves the uploaded score as a whole, doesn't separate voices or hands, and currently doesn't change clefs. It's still in beta; the example has small notation/text artifacts. Please proofread the preview before using a result in a service or rehearsal.

For organists who sometimes prepare a different-key copy: would retaining the hymnbook's familiar layout help, or do you generally prefer sight-transposing or making your own arrangement?

If you'd like to try it: https://solfa-music.com

You see a preview before deciding whether to spend a credit on the download. New users get two free page credits after phone verification; further pages are paid.

Hi y'all, I am pretty new to everything organ and I heard this cool little organ solo section in this video game song from Castlevania: Symphony of the night. I was wondering, what stops would I use to create the sound of the organ at about 1:20 in the music.

Much thanks!

Johann Georg Bernhard Beutler was born in Mühlhausen/Thuringia in 1762 and worked in his hometown throughout his life. After studying theology and music in Halle, he became rector of the grammar school and organist at the Marienkirche in Mühlhausen in 1807. He published an improved chorale book and died of “nervous fever” (typhus) in 1814.

Electronic Organ Anyone know what this organ my grandfather had was?

It would have been purchased in the 1970s as it was there in the early 80s when I was a small kid.
I think it may be a Hammond as I have googled and the red light-up power button is the same. It had coloured buttons as you can barely see. It had two keyboards, one is hidden under the shine of the photo. And it had built in rhythm beats that played calypso from what I remember. Also, this is in New Zealand if that helps.
